  7. Who are we? Remaining together for more than a decade, the 242nd has defined itself as a mature, dynamic, and decisively stable community. We value skill and success over flash and paperwork, always seeking to improve ourselves against both AI and human opponents. Join us to participate in our vision of an aggressive, agile and hard-hitting team of teachers. Over the 10 years for which our community has stood the test of time, we've avoided the drama that has claimed the legacies of so many other clans. We've chosen to eschew the flashy "sir-yes-sir" and useless "Training courses", unnecessary paperwork, over complicated or poorly done missions of the typical arma experience, and have instead chosen to challenge ourselves to succeed in the game, raising the bar in how we can apply both individual and team skillsets. Gameplay Loop Ranks are dropped at the slot in screen. If the unit leader ends up as a fireteam member of the team you lead, then he follows your orders. Training allows people to specialize and focus their gameplay, but you'll be expected to master all of the basic weapons and roles of an infantryman first and foremost. In any given session, expect to play the role you're given, but also expect to be given many roles over a session. You might start your first mission as a grenadier, but end the night having flown a helicopter, lead a fireteam, or driven an IFV. Agility and skill are the cornerstones of what the 242nd is about. ArmA is a game of vast possibilities, and while we follow stringent procedures for organization, we embrace these possibilities. Expect a great deal of time without a magnified scope. Our missions are rarely if ever Zeus curated. Our mission makers painstakingly craft different experiences using the Eden editor. This allows us to maintain peak server performance while well as truly rich and interesting scenarios. These missions have a real failure point, and tons of replay value. Expect to see yourself and your unit lose on occasion. Expect to come together with your team and discuss what went wrong and how we can improve. Expect your contributions to matter. Don't expect it to be easy. Joining Process You can either opt for an interview by joining us on teamspeak and contacting the leader, CPT. Helios, or any NCO, or you can drop an application on our website and we'll get back to you very shortly. Once accetped, you'll go through a no-strings attached application process. You'll download the mods, and play with us in our operations as a fireteam member. If you don't want training, you don't have to take it yet. If, at the end of two weeks we find that we're not suited for each other, then the process stops there. For most people who walk through the doors, that's where the fun begins. 9. An unidentified sniper from the elite Joint Task Force 2 made the shot from a distance of 3,540 meters using a U.S.-made McMillan Tac-50 rifle and Hornady 750 gr Amax ammo chambered in .50 BMG cartridge! The Canadian Armed Forces confirmed Thursday that a member of Joint Task Force 2 made the record-breaking shot, killing an Islamic State insurgent during an operation in Iraq within the last month. The elite sniper was using a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target. “The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” said a military source. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.” The military source said the JTF2 operation fell within the strictures of the government’s advise and assist mission. “As stated multiple times in the past, members of the Canadian Special Operations Task Force do not accompany leading combat elements, but enable the Iraqi security forces who are in a tough combat mission,” the statement said. “This takes the form of advice in planning their operations and assistance to defeat Daesh through the use of coalition resources.” The kill was independently verified by video camera and other data. “Hard data on this. It isn’t an opinion. It isn’t an approximation. There is a second location with eyes on with all the right equipment to capture exactly what the shot was,” another military source said. A military insider told The Globe: “This is an incredible feat. It is a world record that might never be equalled.” The world record was previously held by British sniper Craig Harrison, who shot a Taliban gunner with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle from 2,475 metres away in 2009. Previously, Canadian Corporal Rob Furlong had set the world record in 2002 at 2,430 metres when he gunned down an Afghan insurgent carrying an RPK machine gun during Operation Anaconda. Weeks before, Canadian Master Cpl. Arron Perry briefly held the world’s best sniper record after he fatally shot an insurgent at 2,310 metres during the same operation. Both soldiers were members of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. U.S. Sergeant Bryan Kremer has the longest confirmed sniper kill shot by a U.S. soldier. He killed an Iraqi insurgent with his Barrett M82A1 rifle at 2,300 metres in 2004. JTF2 special forces are primarily tasked with counterterrorism, sniper operations and hostage rescue. Much of the information about this elite organization is classified and not commented on by the government. The unit’s snipers and members of Canadian Special Operations Regiment, who are carrying out the main task of training Kurdish forces, have been operating in tough conditions in Iraq. The Trudeau government pulled CF-18 fighter jets out of Iraq in 2016 but expanded the military mission, which will see the number of Canadian special forces trainers climb to 207 from 69 in an assist, train and advise mission. Canadian commandos are not supposed to be involved in direct combat, but are authorized to go up to the front lines on training missions with Kurdish Peshmerga fighters and to paint targets for coalition air strikes. For operational security reasons, sources would not reveal the names of the elite Canadian sniper and his partner, nor the location where the action took place. A sniper and his observer partner are often sent to remote and dangerous locations to hunt down insurgents while having to carry heavy equipment. Once they have located the target, snipers follow the same methodical approach before each shot. Breathe in, out, in, out, find a natural pause and then squeeze the trigger. Canada has a reputation among Western military forces for the quality of its snipers, despite the small size of the Canadian Armed Forces compared to the United States and Britain. “Canada has a world-class sniper system. It is not just a sniper. They work in pairs. There is an observer,” a military source said. “This is a skill set that only a very few people have.” The skill of the JTF2 sniper in taking down an insurgent at 3,540 metres required math skills, great eyesight, precision of ammunition and firearms, and superb training. “It is at the distance where you have to account not just for the ballistics of the round, which change over time and distance, you have to adjust for wind, and the wind would be swirling,” said a source with expertise in training Canadian special forces. “You have to adjust for him firing from a higher location downward and as the round drops you have to account for that. And from that distance you actually have to account for the curvature of the Earth.” Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/06/23/how-canadas-tiny-military-produced-deadly-record-breaking-snipers/?utm_term=.654ffa726d7c https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/canadian-elite-special-forces-sniper-sets-record-breaking-kill-shot-in-iraq/article35415651/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_recorded_sniper_kills Their Loadout Specs (Most Likely): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-evVfZruOxISVpISjB1Wld0OW8/view https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-evVfZruOxIUi1UTkppQmF0Y00/view
  10. Westwall is a total conversion addon for ArmA 3 set in Western Germany during the last eight months of the Second World War. Currently, our focus is on creating our first terrain Ochsenkopf Trail, which is set during the stagnant fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. To accompany this, we are also developing a basic set of playable Fall 1944 US Army and German Heer units. Here is a general overview of our release plan: --Terrain: Ochsenkopf Trail 2x2km – Fall Version --Units: US/German Rifleman, Rifle Grenadiers, Submachinegunners, Machinegunners, and more. --Weapons: K98k, M1 Garand, M1/M1A1 Thompson, M3A1, MP40, and more. --Gear: US and German field gear, helmets, caps, and more. --Uniforms: US M1943 Field Uniform and German Reversible Winter Uniforms Beyond this initial content demo, we are in the planning stages of what we consider the ultimate goal of the Westwall project—creating interesting new ways for players to engage with the historical content of our subject. To better achieve this goal, we want to further work with historians in and around the Vossenack area and examine content outside of typical combat scenarios. While the majority of our effort will go towards developing assets for our combat gameplay, we are also discussing and prototyping scenarios that allow players to explore our maps and participate in activities that depict both historical combat and non-combat settings. In addition, we are working to find interactive ways to connect users to a wide range of text, video, and internet sources both in and out of the game covering topics ranging from soldier’s stories to information on local culture and history. While we are starting out our journey in the Hürtgen Forest, we hope to move through a selection of topics chronologically until the war ends. After Hürtgen, we hope to explore German-occupied Elsaß. This will undoubtedly be a long term project, but it is one we are very passionate about and we hope you will join us. Thank you.
  11. Hi guys, Hope all is well! My name is Dmitry (clima_x) and I work with RHS, alongside Zeealex, Gurdy and Soul_Assassin. We would like to introduce you to this WIP project, on which work is being actively carried out. It will include a US uniform: ACU and Massif combat gear, as well as a lot of nice bonuses and additions. This is a large and complex project designed to significantly diversify the content we currently have, and the content you can use, we can’t promise anything without knowing for sure but we aim to have a wide variety of selections for you to choose from by the end of the project. For this reason, we decided to be a bit more detailed in the process of creating 3d models. And we also wish to provide you the opportunity to follow the project with greater focus. You can express opinions, share experiences and your thoughts within the topic. Keep an eye on the project, ask questions, we will try to answer them and just enjoy and remember your support is important to us

  13. Hey everyone! It is time for me to show you my truck, M35A2 Kaiser-Jeep, 1964 issue. Since we don't have any commuity made G742 (M34/M35/M36), I've decided to create a common framework for these vehicles and gradually develop their options. This truck was the workhorse of the US Army in the mid to late 90s and had several different modifications for the M35 truck only. I'm not talking about other options M35 series family (tanker, remotly truck, water carrier and others) that also had a lot of modifications. At the moment, it is suitable for many scenarios, the Vietnam War, the escalation of the conflict in Panama, Operation "Desert Storm", the invasion of Iraq in 2003, and almost everywhere the American soldier's foot came. The truck had several incarnations and configurations and was produced by several different manufacturers. More screens: I am currently planning 3 different eras/versions of the M35: War in Vietnam: M35A2 with metal roofed driver compartment with/without tarp, tarp roof driver compartment with/without tarp, without a roof with the possibility of lowering the front glass, option with a M2 .50cal machine gun on the M36 Ring Mount. Well, the famous guntrucks, with the reservation and with different weapons, from the dual machine guns M2, dual M60 to minigun. Also, a low-armored dumbbell with a quarter-machine gun M2 - M55 is planned. Anything I can find documented of Vietnam War gun trucks from the various branches. The consequence of the Vietnam war 70s-80s: more of the same but with different camo, U.S. army, for different divisions and other operators from other countries. 90s and present: M35A2 with metal roof with/without tarp, with a rag roof with awning / without an awning and various gantraks on its base, for armies still expropriating M35A2 (Israil, Georgia, Venezuela, Philippines, Kongo, Iraq and others), as well as trucks of any insurgents (African, South American, Thai rebels and others, to countries that were supplied by the M35), terrorists (Taliban, the Islamic state (I saw a couple of M35 taken from the Iraqi army in Syria and Iraq, several more captured in the Philippines by local terrorists from ISIS and etc), Somali terrorists of the 90s and the present and others) You may suggest any liveries or nations + other ideas and variations and I may implement them if I like them. Also, would like to make different variants of the M35, many were made, such as M36 (with stretch), M49 (gasoline tank), the M50 (the water carrier), M109 (Shop Van), M60 (light wrecker), М59 (Dump), as well as other options (M34, M44, M45, M46, M48, М108, М257 and many others). It is also possible to create on the basis of it a future modification of the M35A3 and South Korean modified trucks K-511, K-511A1 Also, I would be glad if you will subscribe to my ArtStation: https://www.artstation.com/artist/ramamarines If you have anything that may help me, be it research and technical information, reference material or other assistance, I'd appreciate the help. I'll be back with more updates soon!

Mod Requirements: RHS USAF RHS AFRF RHS SAF RHS GREF CUP Terrains/Maps CUP Weapons CUP Vehicles TFR Another short, simple, and enjoyable mission as a Showcase of a roughly OIF-OEF era US Army. Utilize the weapon systems of the RHS M2 Bradley IFV in support of NATO coalition operations against the Takistani Army's infantry, IFVs/APCs, and armored assets. SITREP: CENTCOM has assumed command of NATO Coalition forces deployed to deter Takistani aggression against neighboring Free Karzeghistan. Operation Guardian Edge is in effect. NATO forces have advanced into the Royal Caliphate of Takistan, and have inflicted significant casualties against regular army forces. The US Army 1st Cavalry Division faces serious resistance from the 5th Republican Tank Corps of the Takistani Republican Guard, threatening the momentum of the allied advance. Further mechanized reinforcements requested at the Forward Line of Troops. Hey there, everybody! I'm not exactly brand new to mission making, but I am fairly inexperienced. As a result, I would like to improve the quality of my missions and to do this I need criticism, comments, and advice. I would very much appreciate any comment or piece of advice that may help me further my technical proficiency in mission-making.
  16. I have a question concerning the details of a scenario I'm in the process of working. I'd like to simulate being part of the 11th ACR at the height of the Cold War in the 80's, roughly around the time of Able Archer 83. My problem is I can't find with exact detail the precise components of an Armored Cavalry Troop, which is roughly the same as an Armored Company. I'm aware that 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment was broken up into Squadrons, with each having an HQ Troop, 4 Armor Troops, and an Anti-Tank Troop. I know that the Armor Troops had 4 M1 Abrams each, however I'm unaware of the composition of the HQ and AT Troops. It is these I'd like to represent with some detail, which I've been unable to find. I'm aware it's a somewhat lengthy and kind of out there request, but if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!
  17. Hi all, I'm new to the forums but I have been playing for a while now, with a special interest in the Cold War era. I came here hoping for some assistance on a question that has been bothering me. I have something of my own personal headcanon for the events of the Armaverse, and I wanted to start making missions that take place during the Cold War. The timeline I've worked up involves a conflict between the US Army's 193rd Infantry Brigade and the Soviet 2nd Guards Motor Rifles in the year 1988. Now, I know that the M16A2 was phased into US Army service in 1985-6, but I was wondering about the feasibility of equipping my US Army infantry assets with M16A1s. I have the RH M16 pack with its well-textured and modeled M16A2s, but I recently downloaded Unsung to see the variety of Cold War assets I could translate into the 1980s setting. The M16A1 model they have is quite exquisite, and the selection of Cold War vehicles, aircraft in particular, is also very interesting. I wanted to know see if I could get some input as to what model of M16 I should use, because I can't decide. For anyone who takes the time to read this and comment, thank you very much in advance!
