ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

Since when do guerrilla tactics mean suicide bombing?

If it's strapped on a person and if it goes Kaboom... that's suicide bombing.

Anyway, I have yet to read and find any info/news in afghan/iraq whereby a peace keeping force is planting IED all over the places...Only the terrorists so far. So for a Blufor to use such a device seems a bit unorthodox to me.

Al Quaeda and the Talibans are not the same thing... Being both fundamentalists doesn't mean they use the same tactics or have the same obectives... And IED and suicide bombers are quite different. BIS chose to portray the "warlords" rather than the "terrorists", even though sometimes the border is pervasive...

Regarding IEDs in the main campaign scenario:

In Iraq and Afghanistan, IEDs did not start coming into play until the occupation had begun (in Afghanistan IED have only recently become more common), and taking years for the TTPs to grow and mature into the form that we know today.

IEDs, and SIEDs take alot of planning resources to execute. you need suppliers, builders, emplaces, scouts, triggermen/martyrs, planners, security, and pre established networks to pull these kind of ops off. Given the current scenario for the OA campaign it makes no sense to have those kinds of threats included, as there is no "insurgency" (blufor is not fighting it anyway) to fight against.

If the facts are to be believed the main campaign will span a 24 hour period. It seems that the main objective will to be break a bunch of taki shit to prevent the launch of chemical weapons into kazergistan (?) (no mention of regime change, or long term stability or any of that stuff). (this scenario reminds me more of desert storm really, in the sense of swoop in break stuff and withdrawal). that means we will be fighting regular forces. I would guess that even the "militia" units will still be under some sort of control from the main govt (taki regulars may dress in civi attire as well, as seen in the initial invasion of iraq in OIF) and given some of the equipment we have seen them to have, even if it is just a pat on the back.

I would not call them “terrorists†either. Given what we know about takistan I would guess that the fighters would be nationalistic in nature, and not theocratic. Nationalists, or people just defending their homes are not likey to use suicide tactics, as it is really fucking stupid, and sane people don’t do that. Going back to the whole “insurgency takes time†thing, it would take time for extremists to get in country start building/coercing local support, indoctrinating, and recruiting to start pulling off the suicide attacks.

so given this is an allout combat op, in a short span of time with no definite intentions of long term occupation (this still has to be confirmed), it would make perfect sense that BIS did not add in IED threats, as there would be none.

this is for the main campaign only. i am making this analysis based on the info we currently have regarding the campaign.

what we do is another matter entirely

Couldnt aggree more with 'that guy'.

However a counter-insurgency mini-campaign complete with IEDs '2 years later' would be a good idea for :yay:.

Hi, add IEDs would make sense if they want to allow by the developers side from a begining the IEDs models and code for the addon makers, missions and campaign makers as it's very previsible what they gonna do with the base engine; turn it to be used for the wars actualy in fashion or that are passing as conflicts on fashion, as they seem to be less popular now that they were three years ago. Other than that... that guy is right. Let's C ya

DLCs should be discussed in another thread.... kidding..:)

Yea, will like to see a counter-insurgency mini campaign for a change rather than all out war campaign. It might be more exciting to do house patrols and not knowing what's at the next junction.... in search of insurgents...

Well my fellow Aussie's. Looks like we're ordering OA online. EB, negative. GAME, "Whats OA?" Great.

The best i can find is this and it sounds so reliable.

Game Head have it listed too, and they also list the publisher as AIE. A bit of Googling suggests AIE = All Interactive Entertainment, and also confirms the 1st July release date here. They've got a bunch of screens too, but I don't think any are new. Also the box art doesn't have a screaming guy. :)

Oh well. To Sprocket!

Yep that's what I did. Support the indies!

* Will the AI use buiding interiors? Take cover in the buildings and search for enemies?

The AI itself is not able to do it; however, with smart scenario design it is possible to have AI also in buildings, or move through buildings. The AI will follow orders, entering buildings on command, or following you into buildings as part of your group.

That's nice... ArmA1 mods had it allready so why not OA for a change.

What good is a town module generator if the AI doesn't use any of the buildings by default :386: ?

* Will the release of OA, prompt BIS to release MLODs and/or other source materials from ArmA 2?

No. Currently, there is no plan to release more MLODs for further use. We would like to define the licensing standards in the community better before we'd release more content for further use and modifications.
Also nice...

UK DEFENCE MINISTER PROPOSES BRITISH ARMED FORCES STRATEGIC FUNDING REVIEW.

A hint that British Forces may be included in a future DLC?

A note to devs (if they even manage to stay current in this thread, I know I can't):

In the answers given about OA, it was mentioned that new post processing effects are (can be?) used based on time of day. This doesn't smell right, as daytime changes over the year, and will be even more affected by world latitude.

Unless they only call it time of day, and it is actually sun azimuth or scene brightness, which would work better.

My thoughts exactly...

Also, I don't see why BIS won't release the MLOD's. It just makes it easier for you talented mod makers to provide the community with awesome addons.

Some mods might work, but many of the current addons will probably need to be reconfigured. I'm not expecting straight out of the box compatibility with custom addons. Vanilla units and such will though.

ummm maybe you could read the thread?

Perhaps the first page.....

@Icewindo I agree 100% town generator yet the AI need orders from the squad leader specifically or waypoints like SnD with a gigantic placement radius...

E3 is dumb its a chance to bring even more casual gamers into the system and offer them and everybody else these moronic features, dont you want facebook on your Xbox rather than some gamez? Do you really want chat rooms (a nice.... jab at Blizzard)? *facepalm*
