ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

This isn't that important but one of the Strykers on the runway seems to have a hatch on top opened. Its on the left hand side when they do all the vehicles. Happy to see the Germans and Czechs by the way. Would've rather had UK than US but I can handle that. After all I am from the U.S.

Who needs [E]uropean forces they[']re only good for target practise[practice]

That's not nice.

I think the reason they always use U.S. troops, is because it appeals more to us Americans, and BIS want's to keep it's popularity up with are market. I don't think it would sale well to have a country of less interest the main focus of the campaign, unless it is one of the superpowers. This is purely my opinion.

Anyone notice the green tinge to the FLIR, what happened to the white hot, black hot look?

I know some optics use a mix of nightvision and FLIR but ive never seen any footage from AH64 like that.

I doesnt look as good as the older footage of FLIR IMO.

Yes, and also any modmaker will be able to rework old trees to new shaders. But dont expect mirracles, we are talking about 1-10% better performance. Depends on HW.

That said, there is ANY possibility to include such mod in an OFFICIAL patch? Same for this:

YES. Arrowhead will work with user addons and Arma2 original addons too. New features such as Thermal Imaging textures will be not present, but the objects will work simplified in thermal (plain color like in Dragon Rising)

Change the "old" ArmA2 units to an OA level.

_______________

Great video, really looking forward to the expansion and praying to it to be released here this time.....

I don´t understand the complaints about US forces being the leading edge in this rendition of Arma 2 again. Realistically, the US will remain pretty much the only country with a sufficient military force to do any kind of major operations such as Arrowhead suggests being, and we already get Czech, German and possibly an array of UN troops on top of the already existing forces. (For the UN, a BMP and a Mi-8 have been shown, I think, but I would also believe there´s more than that).

Otherwise, if I assume I wouldn´t know the OFP series, I have to say this trailer is fantastic.

As somebody who has been with the games ever since 2001, though, the quirks jump readily into the eye. Like the afforementioned AI spraying around with the Humvees turret, or the scene where the soldiers run in front of the Hummers. You can just picture in your mind how one of them suddenly stops and gets run over. "...Oh no, 2 is down"

I am really hopeful that this time, it won´t be as noticeable as it was in previous times. Arma 2 was already a vast improvement, so Arrowhead will most likely top that.

Both thumbs up on this one, BIS.

realistic?

It's a game...wake up call!!!

and maybe I should had said it otherwise......main role in the game.

It´s probably not completely off when saying that's probably also a marketing decision.

Germany overtakes UK as top games market in Europe

Although i´m german, it's tertiary to me which factions are included, as long as the underlying architecture is somewhat solid and makes for enjoyable gameplay. More variety is always welcomed, whether it's delivered by the community, or Developer.

Nice Teaser, btw. :bounce3:

I wish the SP campaign to include a mission in which we have to capture Bin Laden?

btw, who will be the resistance force? and what are they called?

In this day and era -- US military forces are essentially the only force capable of deploying anywhere in the world within 48hrs. The US has also shown itself as one of the few nations WILLING to do so.

It makes sense that the US feature prominently. Having said that we've already got an impressive selection of US hardware in ARMA2:Vanilla. It makes sense to show off some of the new stuff -- besides the modding scene will be crowded by a million and one M16/M4 variations and American units a week after release anyhow.

If there's no such country as Takistan, how could Bin Laden be hiding there?

BIS's story lines have always been fictional for a reason.

C´mon guys, even for you, US people, you are not boring for playing with your forces again and again and again in every bloody military game??

I do not say "exclude the US forces" i only say that will be awesome (and a very good change of air) to add new IMPORTANTS factions like France (they have the most beautiful planes and choppers in the world ), UK, Israel, Germany, etc.

Regards

But we all know its based on Afghanistan, plus it will give the game a lot of publicity:)

we got through most of the day before the spoil sports and trolls showed up, thats a good thing i would guess.

there are alot of reasons why the US are the main players in most games

we are one of the few aggressive military forces in the world, built for doing stuff off of native soil (as opposed to the "defense force"), with QRF capability as was mentioned.

also it could be a simple issue of Europe is the biggest market, and if BIS include some Euro armies but not other, you poeple start to get hurt "why X country but not Y!?!" (as we already see here in this thread). the US is default because everyone universally dislikes us :D

Yall need to stop bitching and wake up to the fact that bis DID put MORE than the US in THIS game. be glad BIS took the time to add the ACR and the germans, and dont go bitching that you want even more than MORE. JESUS

BE HAPPY. I AM

PS if you want your particular European country to be featured more prominently in future games, you should contact your local far-right-wing political partly/movement and encourage them to start fights with other counties (particularly your intimidate neighbors), you know like the good old days. *joke* :D

But we all know its based on Afghanistan, plus it will give the game a lot of publicity:)

added: including such stuff in an official product is just lame and very very tacky. having stuff like that just ruins the mood of the game, just to play out some boyish power fantasy by punching a known real world terrorist in the face (or in this case, shoot him). I know excacly what i mean, but i feel i am failing to articulate an explanation clearly, perhaps some one else feels the same way and can put it too words better.

and that is the wrong kind of publicity

The FLIR display as actually seen from the cockpit is green monochrome. The recording output (as seen on youtube, etc.) is black/white.

anyone notice the hole in the floor of the Chinook for fast-roping?

I thought that's where they lower the hook/sling for lifting vehicles and such?

I noticed that but even in OFP the Chinook had a hole in the floor. I hope you're right though.

Well i'm sure they use it for both uses.

Cargo Carrying Chinook

I think they use hooks on the bottom for cargo. Although maybe on certain loads they use the hatch and hooks. Either way though that doesn't mean we have either feature. I hope so but they haven't mentioned it yet.

yeah I noticed that too.

I hope you're right, fast roping really needs to be officially implemented into A2.

So I was all giddy watching the video and excited and what not.....saw the logo come up for Operation Arrowhead and thought that was it....then the C-130 flew over spitting out flares and I just lost it.

Cannot wait!!!

I'd love to see the Russians get some of this OA goodness, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the Russians make a surprise appearance in OA, seeing as Russia does border Takistan.
