Arma 3 Creator DLC: Global Mobilization - Cold War Germany

Yes, many bang on about reviewers perceived problems with the cDLC concept which has nothing to do with its content. Those that say they should have got it via the Supporters edition do, in my opinion, have a solid point. The only reason I didn't buy the supporter edition is I couldn't afford it at the time. Otherwise, I'd have been proud to do so. It conveyed some special, thoughtful and loyal bonus on the buyer. And I'd now be furious that some verbal callisthenics have been used to somehow exclude this from that package.  "ALL FUTURE ARMA 3 DLCs [?]" Is what the page said and the tooltip on the question mark at the end says "If any, does not apply to standalone expansions or sequels". LINK This is going to seriously damage the sales of any future Supporter Editions as well as damage trust in what BI says about the content of their packages. This makes them look shady at best and untrustworthy at worst.

So there are issues that aren't really directly to do with the DLC itself. Fair enough. On the other hand, players based in Northern Germany seem to love it unconditionally. 🙂

Personally, I think it lacks polish, aircraft and QA. The terrain is lovely, if a little flat and plain in places - yes, I know it's quite accurate - and the amount of new, high-quality assets on the terrain is truly impressive.  It is buggy though. Likewise, the Fuchs is a thing of beauty inside and out, possibly the loveliest thing I've seen in the game. The M113 is nearly as good too.
But the Urals are a bit rough, the rev counter annoys me intensely and the sound is disappointing. Also, I've driven Beetles and Trabants and they are both poor in the way they drive, sound and look. It's nice to have a more detailed reload anim, but they are patchy at best. Some of the new MP stuff I played made the gunner of the KAT 451 unkillable - inexcusable. Many of the anims look broken and untested. Interiors for tanks is the standard now and are missing here.

All in all, I had to marginally give this a thumbs down which makes me sad. I hope a patch will tidy this up and I hope future cDLCs take note.

For supporter edition, it was all BIS DLC.

Considering CDLC is not BIS ones, IMHO it's normal that CDLC are not included.

..........But its not made by Bohemia, it is only published by them.

You do know that even though they dont make the games, Publishers have their logos on games too

It won't come true no matter how much you say it. Supporter edition was for all Arma 3 DLC. I've shown you the link already. There's no denying what it says.

GM is not a Arma 3 DLC its an Arma 3 CDLC. Different things.

Supporter Edition contains everything directly made (or directly contracted) by BI. CDLC's aren't. Author and Publisher are different things.

BI won't just decide about other peoples stuff and give it away for free. And even if they would, how do they decide how much money share of the supporter edition sales to give to CDLC authors?
If there are a dozen of CDLC's they couldn't give 50% share to each of them, and even now they cannot decide for a percentage because they don't know how many CDLC's will be coming.

I didn't take the DLC because not really interested in it.

However, it does have a SP campaign (10 missions long).

Is it worth taking the DLC juste for the campaign or not?

Thanks

If the 80s Germany content is not interesting to you then I would say no.

I personally enjoyed the campaign but I love all of the content. It is very Operation Flashpoint like but overall very simple and there is not really any character development or any complex missions.

So i would not get it just for the campaign no...

I enjoyed the campaign but I wouldn't get the CDLC just for that. I looked at purchasing GM the same way I did Arma 3 and all the DLC content so far. The A3 2035 concept doesn't interest me at all and I thought the vanilla campaign was lackluster at best but I was admittedly biased against it from the get go. Still, I purchased A3 for the potential of what the mod community and SP mission and campaign creators would bring to it as far as contemporary and historical military content is concerned. The community has delivered in spades through mods such as those from RHS and CUP and numerous others as well as some excellent SP missions and campaigns that have been created that I've enjoyed or will when I find the time to get to them. I consider my A3 investment to be money well spent and I think my investment in GM will likely pay off as well.

As a Cold War military veteran that served in West Germany back in the day , the content included with GM was a big draw for me as well as the SP campaign. The developers have said that they will continue to polish and add content to the CDLC and I'm hoping that the mod and mission making community will add to it as well. I skipped all of the official A3 DLC except for APEX because as I said, the 2035 concept doesn't do anything for me. However, I did purchase APEX for the terrain because of the contemporary military content that I knew that mission and campaign makers would create that would require it. I don't know if things will work out the same way with GM but I suspect that we will see future Cold War gone hot scenarios created that will require it. The CDLC is still new but so far we've seen some tentative steps by the mod community to add some assets and hopefully as time goes by that new content will increase by leaps and bounds. So anyway, my recommendation is to not just look at the content available with the initial release but to also consider the potential for new content that will be created for it.

So let me get this straight...

Bohemia Interactive authorized and official DLC of Cold War Germany WITHOUT bothering to include Cold War United States or the USSR even though both of those countries were by far, the most important political and military players of the era and had troops stationed all over Germany...

Because everything Cold War has to include the americans and the soviets right? Imagine the audacity of making something original that has not really been touched before.

I bought it for the assets and terrain and so far I like the terrain quite much. On daytime with not so many cloud, there's spring/summer feelings. It's lush, colors are spot on.

I'm saying that with only 2h of experience with it. Will maybe play the campaign, but I'm more of a tinkerer.

Thanks for the teams hard work!

There are a few high quality mods that can provide a very decent experience for Cold War US and USSR. There are literally none that can provide what GM does. Not to mention that the original plan (might be a little complicated right now with how everything went with the CDLC) was to keep expanding the mod with other involved nations etc (like Denmark that is already in it).

I do hope they will expand it, Im really enjoing it so far.

But before adding further nations they should add more content to both Germanies.

I personally think that this cDLC is a great start and it shows that Bohemia is giving a chance to any team that is capable of producing and developing a commercial product. That there are high quality mods out there that might deliver more content is not to be argued, but this is a different process in some ways. For the commercial process you have to deliver licenses and prove that this is all your work, made from scratch or bought for commercial use. A mod can be made with stolen or copied content. RHS is big in size, but used many assets of Arma2. JSRS_Soundmod might sound good, but has many part used from YouTube or from libraries.

In the commercial process all these ways are not allowed or you pay a price. And considering the size of the GM Team, I think this very first CDLC is a really well made product! Bohemia does provide the QA (in terms of functionality and other things such as political issues, signs and what not) so that the content is to their standards (not as much as quality but more importantly functionality and no duplicated content, copied mods and so on). The rest, the development, is made by the external teams.

The jets DLC showed that it is possible to work with external teams and it showed the potential of outsourcing the work to others. It was a win win (win) for both, our team (Bravo Zero One) and Bohemia and the community I think.

So don't be too hard on things, lads. We just got started and I'm really really thankful for Bohemia to open this door for us and help us to get a foot in the door for commercial video game production. There are many good projects going to come, I'm pretty sure 😉

Thanks GM team for you dedicated work to the German Wall history, a story that is rarely been told and used as scenario. Good job!!!

Congrats to the release and it was my pleasure.

it would be great if we could have a specific user made mission thread in this subforum which is dealing with user-made missions for this specific DLC. What do you guys think? It would be a lot easier for people to find the right mission dedicated and made specifically for GM.

Once again your mission is most probably the first user made mission for GM  . . . keep it up.

Hello everyone,

Hi, mondkalb, thank you for the great job again.

Do you plan to add some stuff for stealth missions in a nearest future? Such as sound supressors, NVG's, scopes? AFAIK Soviet recon units in Germany was widelly supplyed at least with 7,62 mm PBS-1 silencers and NSPU-1 NV-scopes. NV-googles was relatively rare, but there was no lack of (obsolete and awfull) NV-scopes and NV-binoculars in recon units. Not completelly sure about NVA, but think a German AK's was compatible with this stuff.

I feel a huge buzz to make a reconnaissance mission, but afraid there's no such posibility at this moment without at least minimum of appropriate gear.

Mayb do you have some public roadmap or trello, for example? To let us know what kind of the content you plan to add and what not.

Thank you.

They do not have a public roadmap but some basic night vision scopes and helicopters are most likely high on the list of the future content. However this is just a speculation based on some of the posts on GM Discord. But I would not have high hopes for stealth equipment if I were you.
