PartyHead 10 Posted May 19, 2013 When is the Dev Build going to get some stability about it ? its so broken at the moment that its not worth the effort to make any missions which tells me the Beta must be weeks and weeks away, and its not worth the effort to make any missions in the Alpha Build because as soon as you try and play them in the Dev Build they are a lot of the time broken straight away which tells me that anything you make in the Alpha Build is going to break in the Beta when its released. And how many weeks has it been since we've had an Alpha update, a stable Alpha update would at least be fair I think its been long enough and would bring it more in line with the Dev Build. Going back to Arma 2 for awhile I think.
Steakslim 1 Posted May 20, 2013 I wouldn't expect anything from a dev build to be stable, we'd just be in good fortune if one manages to be. They'll release a new stable build when they're ready, in the meantime keep reporting things in the bugtracker.
chortles 263 Posted May 20, 2013 What Steakslim said... the whole point of dev build is that it's not stable, this is "working as intended".
andressergio 1 Posted May 20, 2013 What Steakslim said... the whole point of dev build is that it's not stable, this is "working as intended". PCars is PRE ALPHA and it was stable since first days, 60fps rock solid and never ever anyone complaints if someone says the thruth thing that dont happen here, this ALPHA is like a 3D studio MAX animation for me not a game at all yet

chortles 263 Posted May 20, 2013 andressergio, you really don't get the difference between dev build and stable build, do you? The whole point of dev build is that it's more quickly updated and more frequently than stable build because they don't do internal QA on it beforehand... that's what the alpha playtesters (who dare to use dev build) are there for! metalcraze 290 Posted May 20, 2013 Today's update added PhysX3Gpu_x86.dll to game's folder. This dll is used for hardware accelerated PhysX. Make of it what you will.

thr0tt 12 Posted May 20, 2013 I thought it was stated they wont be breaking the game for half the users by implementing GPU Physx based on NV hardware ? Still, ive got an old NV card 6800GT kicking around I used for Batman AA in hybrid mode, maybe I could do the same at a push.
kremator 1065 Posted May 20, 2013 Good to see PhysX finally be used in native (ie GFX card) format! Will be sure to have a little play with this (as I only look at DEV version anyway!)

Making it better for others doesn't mean it's getting worse for you :) If there is an option to profit from GPU acceleration on NVidia cards, go for it BIS! It doesn't affect my performance as a AMD user in any negative way. And as you pointed out, there are even options to create hybrids. Though jumping on conclusions just by this new file should be done with caution ;)

They won't be breaking the game for half the users... they'll just be giving the other half the possibility of better performance. To many it will amount to the same thing though, giving advantage to some & not others. Also, it depends on what is being farmed out to cards (if anything...) if it's just eye-candy rubble & flapping cloth effects then it's not really much to worry about. Personally, I'm hoping it will be vehicle & ragdoll physics. :)
metalcraze 290 Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) I thought it was stated they wont be breaking the game for half the users by implementing GPU Physx based on NV hardware ? Still, ive got an old NV card 6800GT kicking around I used for Batman AA in hybrid mode, maybe I could do the same at a push. I have no idea where the myth comes from that hw physX breaks anything for AMD users? If it will be implemented into ArmA3 AMD users will see the same level of physics effects they do now at the same performance - but NV users may just get neat eye-candy like better breaking glass or maybe more debris when a vehicle explodes. If current HW PhysX can be used for vehicle/ragdolls/ballistics physics acceleration then why not? It isn't like NV users will get stable 60 fps from it while AMD users will start running the game at 5. But even if it's some FPS increase for NVidia users why not? Good to see PhysX finally be used in native (ie GFX card) format! Will be sure to have a little play with this (as I only look at DEV version anyway!) Not sure if it's used anywhere in the dev build we get though. Don't see any additional options in config files either. However note that the version of dev build was also switched to 0.59 and that happens when BIS releases stable versions before making big changes to an engine. Perhaps HW accelerated PhysX will be one of the announcements for Beta at E3 and they are staging the deployment of it? I really hope so. thr0tt 12 Posted May 20, 2013 PANIC ! Then discuss after is the best way. Someone pointed out a file, discussion points then everything after that appears 'matter of fact' its awesome ! Batman had many features 'enhanced' by using HW Physx, so the AMD users felt they lost out when the same effects could have been enabled on CPU, but hey ho. Insanatrix 0 Posted May 20, 2013 Hardware PhysX wouldn't break anything for AMD users. AMD card's just can't benefit/do any of the hardware accelerated PhysX stuff though obviously. Anyone else notice the new power pole's going down the hill to the gas station at Agia Marina? I don't remember them there last build.
