Defying the Odds

After testing a mission a few months back zTt was like why not create a campaign? I refused saying it was too hard. We can make more missions in the same amount of time. A few weeks back however the campaign started being constructed! Now the campaign being constructed was revealed to our website subscribers alone but the download links and such will be available to all!

 

Story:

 

   In Afghanistan there was a leader called Dahid Kazat. Kazat was a patriot. He loved his country and his people. He wanted his country to prosper by taking advantage of the oil reserves located at Lythium. It was a clever idea and it would surely result in his country prospering and his people forgetting about the immense difficulties they face due to being poor. There was an issue however.

 

   Oil attracts the Strong Countries of the world. Especially when in 2035 oil reserves get more and more scarce. Because of the above, NATO decided that Kazat had not what it takes to deal with the power that oil reserves would provide him. Due to that NATO demanded all oil reserves from Kazat while providing no help to the people of Afghanistan.

 

Kazat did not agree! They tried to bribe him, they threatened his family and yet he said no.

 

   So NATO found a nice way to get rid of Kazat. They chose to fund rebel organization Al Shilak. They gave them weapons, ammunition and all needed in order to bring down Kazat and they succeeded. Kazat was killed and propaganda made the people of Afghanistan to agree about the homicide. Yet again an issue arose.

 

   The people of Afghanistan did not only agree with the murder. They also agreed with whatever Al Shilak supports. That is that NATO is to blame for everything. That now that Al Shilak controls the country they should be the ones dealing with the oil reserves. That the people of Afghanistan should rebel!

 

   From that point on, Lythium has turned into a battlefield. NATO was unable to deal with the locals and after many casualties they lost control of Lythium and they are now dealing with a force that wants to expand Afghanistan borders!

 

Here is when you guys arrive.

 

   Although no country offered to help in fear of casualties, Greece is sending their best Green Berets force! Four men from Greece Special Forces have been dispatched to Lythium to help NATO regain control. NATO agreed to support them. If they commenced all too dangerous operations…

 

Greece agreed. Why? Nobody knows if anybody knows.

Task Force: Blue Lighting

 

Team Leader – Chiefly Alexandros Petraklos

He has been through everything! Graduating from multiple Military Academies and becoming an expert in a variety of sectors was a torment. Actually it was not. Petraklos was born for such operations. What tormented him was the bureaucracy and the needed encounters with officialdom in order to become a Green Berets Team Leader.

Marksman – Sergeant Ioannis Kalinos

A graduate from the Basic Sniper Training for Special Operations Academy. The time needed to read that equals with the time Kalinos needs for 3 headshots at a 1,5 km distance! That is exactly why the Green Berets recruited him. Disregarding his tension to remain silent, a Blue Lightning slot is surely his.

Explosive Specialist – Sergeant Konstantinos Koromilas

His graduation certificate comes from the Evelpidon Military Academy. Apart from that, he does not talk much. All we know is that he likes explosives and whatever causes mayhem. Welcome aboard Koromila! You are just the person we need for the Blue Lighting Green Berets team.

Medic - Corporal Lambros Katechakis

Coming from 7 yearlong studies he graduated from the Army Officers Military Academy. AOMA, which he finds boring, trained him to become a Medic and be an expert in Emergency Medicine. After his graduation, he was assigned to the Green Berets Blue Lightning team and has since found out that the real military is by no means boring.

Head Quarters – Lieutenant Tasos Balaoritis

Also a graduate of the Army Officers Military Academy but not a Medic. Balaoritis was trained to become a Military Psychologist. Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder or any sort of disorder has no chance in front of his skills. Calm as anyone can be he provides support to all Green Berets operations.

Pilot – Corporal Antonis Fidelis

Only typically did he need to graduate from the Air Force Academy. Piloted his first chopper at the age of 15 and his first plane when he was 17. That is what happens when your father owns a Flight School. Due to his amazing skills in Army Aviation vehicles, the Green Berets Blue Lightning team immediately recruited him.

Important details:

 

a)In SP you should be the THE GROUP LEADER of the BLUE LIGHTNING team.

b)In MP all players who will participate in the mission should be READY before the opperation begins.

c)It is important to read the STRATEGY section of the briefing.

d)The campaign is FULLY VOICED in Greek and there are ENGLISH subtitles. Although ... who does not speak Greek?

e)At the Lythium map some doors do not open. It has been fixed via a script. You can open those doors with the ALT key.

f)All testings have taken place in a HOSTED server.

So Armaholic will most likely release the Campaign in a few hours. That is am, after midnight, local time and I yep I got to sleep.

Additionally anyone willing to play the 1st episode at a Friday night should not be dissapointed so   .....

Alhtough the details that are now fixed we had a really nice time organizing our strategy and commencing the operation on this episode. Hope you all enjoy!

Please also note that a Marksmen DLC dependency has been added to the Campaign. We will most likely not add any more dependencies. The Marksmen DLC was already present but was forgotten by myself.

In this mission we had some awesome firefights! And we were all great. We would also be baked had it not been for our Marksman! His support proved essential due to our strategy plan. What will yours be?

Now allow me to suspect that some of you do not read the Important Details section of the mission. Due to that, it is in the task's description anyways, but please note:

Good missions many times also means big missions and this one is indeed big. 25 Mbs. That is due to media and scripts. Lots of scripts.

The final mission of Chapter 01 however although big is finally ready so ...

 

 

Episode 04 - Natural Holocaust RELEASE!

Episode 04 was a mission where we did not manage to follow a stealth approach. We had a nice plan but adrenaline was pumping for quite some time to avoid a rambo movie. Anyways, maybe you will be able to stay undetected long enough?

Please note that this mission has a minor bug for reasons yet unknown:

Hey guys!

 

Since Christmas Holidays are ongoing I might not have a mission ready for release but I find it nescessary to give you all guys an update.

So what is going on with the Defying the Odds Campaign's construction?

 

For starters I have placed news about the missions that are curretly being worked upon in the first thread:

For Laters, all Chapter 1 missions are being reworked. What I mean by reworked is not a change in tasks nor in the story. It is more about optimizations. More info at the next versions releases. The next versions which will most likely be the FINAL versions too!!!

 

For Last but not Least I have to say that due to a glitch that has been discovered as of yesterday 12/26/2018 I will have to change about 1.600 lines of code :thumb_down: It is about how the chat text is shown. The text will not change. Only the way it is shown. If you know Greek then there will not be a problem but some weird people tend to say that not many people know Greek so whatevs ... I will not take that risk  :thumbsup:

Many thanks for such an offer! I have altered all the remoteExec lines to the simple sideChat command already however. It took many hours but indeed had I used simple notepad it would take days and who knows how many glitches! By the way ... notepad++ I use after seeing your advice in each of your scripts :thumbsup:

After many updates to already released missions ...

 

Chapter-01 has reached version v2.0!!!

Thanks George! You really do give a motive to Arma 3 content creators. With all the support and such. Anyways 2019 coming in fast ...

Episode 05 - Flaming Rain RELEASE!

In this episode having to keep the Chain in good enough condition was by no means calming! We had to change our strategy multiple times, use scouting techniques while also keep the enemy units seperated and busy.

Our Explosive Specialist and Marksman surely played the most significant roles. The ES by using his LMG to clear the way and the MN by keeping the enemy busy via simultaneous attacks in a variety of sectors!

 

As always we hope positive or negative feedback will make its appearance! And if you want to share your mission experiences too please feel free to!!!

Was hoping there would be two mission releases in Christmas but I had to update some missions due to add-on updates and reach the final stage of all Chapter 1 missions. Due to that:

Naturally if you have any recommendations about the Campaign creation feel free to share them. The story is pretty much set but it may change if we cannot implement it in the Arma engine.

Hey guys I have got the Easter Update for the campaign's creation!

 

So for Easter there will be no mission releases. Due to some really serious early summer exams our testing group is not available. That does not however mean that new missions are not being created. We are just one mission away from the end of Chapter 2! Afterwards Chapter 3 will be created and it will be the last chapter of the campaign.

 

  • As for changes in already released missions there will be none for Chapter 1 missions. They have been tested and no bugs have been reported so there is no need to change anything. If someone however finds a bug or glitch please report it.
  • As for missions already released for Chapter 2 only one image will be changed. There indeed was a minor bug reported in mission 05 but it only happened once and could not be replicated. If it happens to anybody else please report it so as for me to fix it. Actions have already been taken so as for it not to happen again even in that one case but if something occurs I can use other methods too.
  • As for missions not being released on armaholic anymore I should point out that it only happens with the campaign missions. When uploading missions on armaholic there is not so much control on what you write. I cannot preview what I have written and in order to change the color or size of letters I have to use code. That is also the case when trying to place the text in the middle and in so many other cases. Armaholic dudes are great and always helpful but I cannot keep uploading new versions and such. I will however upload the whole Campaign when it is 100% ready.
  • As for the final release date of the Campaign it is scheduled to be towards the end of the 2019 summer!!!

So time for yet another update!

 

  • As you can see in the initial thread 3 missions are ready and awaiting the testing procedures
  • The Credits have been updated! Need to point out here however that only the ones who have helped with the already released missions are included. As more missions are released the credits will accordingly be updated.
  • Minor Changes in Chapter 1 missions including a few alterings in action icons and a few enhancements for weather effects.
  • A new version has also been released for the first episode of Chapter 2. Nothing much. A picture just changed so as to match with the rest episodes of the 2nd DTO Chapter.
  • It should also be noted that mission Thunder Fortress, which is awaiting testing is the last episode of Chapter 2!

 

And that is pretty much it! As soon as the testing group is available the missions will have their final tests and will gradually be released!

So what is happening with the Progress of the Campaign?

 

  • Episode 09 Robotic Persuasion is in development. Still early alpha but in a work in progress state.
  • Episode 10 Death Cream has only its general idea set and is awaiting the completion of Episode 09. That means that when 09 is ready 10 will start being created.

 

So why is it taking so long?

 

The main reason is due to time shortage. A technical issue also occurred in one of the testings group computer. Sadly due to money shortage that will take a while to be fixed. That is a serious issue since as in every other mission, although everything has been tested in the editor multiple times, campaign missions still need to be tested in an MP environment. That is because when I test them I know where everything is and exactly what players have to do. In order to be absolutely sure that players having no idea of what is to come act as they should, an MP test is needed. That is also the case with all difficulty settings and such. Last but not least, as the campaign story comes to its closure more and more media files need to be created. That is a time consuming and kinda painful process. 

 

In short Episode 09 and 10 are the last two missions of the DTO Campaign and hopefully they will be ready in a few months!!!

It has been some time but here we are with yet another update! For starters however I would like to wish you all a:

From then on we have Mission 09 having its tasks ready and awaiting the voice recording while Mission 10 has started being developed. Mission 07 was tested but due to some details the mission could not end! That sadly means that the mission might have to be tested again making its release date unknown. Mission 06 however was tested and after some fixes took place it is ready for release! Feedback however will be greatly appreciated especially with the mission below!!!

In this mission there were weird tasks that players however did manage to overcome! Will you be able to do so as well? It remains to be seen....

 

Also there are more news to the picture. The final release date of the campaign is scheduled to be before August of 2020. Last but not least the credits have been updated. More are to come when the needed missions are released.

In this mission we were saved more than once by our Sniper and Sabot specialist. Have it not been for them we would have been torn to pieces! What about yourselves though? Will you choose a dynamic or a more stealth approach? Whichever one you choose hope you all have an amazing time! Oh and not to forget all missions have been updated so as for your loadout to remain intact if needed to respawn. The issue was detected while testing and has been dealth with.

Episode 08 - Thunder Fortress RELEASE!

In this episode there were some really close calls! Gladly thanks to our Sniper's notifications and organized reactions we managed to overcome the difficulties and complete the mission!

 

Now about the update. There are two missions that are at the works. Now number two might sound small but it is not! Media files have to be created and there is a dilema on how the story will end. The hypothesis is set but to how flexible players will be with their choices ... that is a complex situation. At the same time we are trying to alter scripts so as to fix some details something by no means easy! Nevertheless we will do our best so as to have the best possible outcome. Also the credits section has been updated. Some have yet to be included but that is only because the needed missions have not been released yet. Last but not least we have not forgotten about the steam and armaholic links. Those will be shown here once all missions are released. Stay tuned!!!

No mission release here but .... an update!

 

  • To start with Episode 09 is ready for testing! It took some extra time with adding extra ingame content but everything should be sweet and running.
  • As for the last misison, Episode 10, we are having some issues with some scripts and overall optimization. While classes and exams do cause delays.
  • The date of delivery remains however the same. Somewhere around the coming August.
  • Last but not least, there will be two possible endings according to your ingame choices. No spoilers here but it would be nice to keep a close eye on how the story develops

Mission Updates!

 

As we are slowly approaching the final mission we want everything to be as good as it can be. Due to that Missions 01, 05 and 08 have been updated. By accident I discovered a way to make the video media files much better. Due to that no more pixel looking videos! All video qualities have been greatly enhanced while the mission sizes are still good. The biggest mission is about 75 Mb. A quality change example:

As it can be clearly seen the one on the right is the old pixel version. But the quality enhacements are not the only news we have ready!
