ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

Enad, I don't know where i know this, but L is the button for lights. In the control selection page it says headlights, I believe it used to say lights /headlights before. I tried it again, and it's totally random for me, i have to keep pushing L and once in a while it will turn on. But you need the nv goggles to see the lights.

Is anyone else having a huge issue getting your vehicle crews to target and or fire?

i'm in the typhoon mission and I can't get any of the target buttons to work with any accuracy and the gunner in my bradley will not fire. I have a squad of enemy in front of me and my gunner will not fire, i have to switch to gunner. And thats at all kinds of different settings. The only way i can get the targeting system to work is when i am already on TOW, then when i push next target, he will aim at any vehicly that moves, friendly and enemy. But if I am on TOW and i target a soldier, the second i switch weapons, the target box goes away and he won't shoot him.

And the AI seems worse. I have stood in front of enemies or enemies stood in front of my guys then they just turned away with no one firing. Maybe super AI is dumbing them down.

I love the game, and i take back the pink terrain comment, Maybe it was cause I was viewing it in the editor, in game looks fine.

Operation Arrowhead comes as a fresh breath of air.

The amount of features that comes with this expansion are truely outstanding.

The missions of the campaign are deeply immersive, intense and realistic.

The long list of provided units, weapons variants and vehicles is just outstanding.

The organization of the units within the editor reaches perfection.

My only grip is still the high accuracy of OPFOR units. But by playing with some values, you can easly increase the dispersion values.

Regards,

TB

Wrong! The german 88 anti aircraft gun was actually converted and used as the main gun on the Tiger tank solely as a result of the success of the anti aircraft version being used as a tank stopper.

Whole different animal MUCH different calibre. 14.5mm is closer to a 50 calibre machine gun or a 20mm flak.

I played the OA campaign an I really liked it.

Great equipment, great vehicles...

In my opinion the campaign was a bit short.

But there is actually just one thing that bothers me:

The Takis are the bad guys gecause they are socialsits, not because they are muslim extremists.

I just think it would have been nice to have a new kind of enemy not just another bunch of commies but some fierce, evil, fanatic guys fighting a dirty war...

But maybe thats just me.

Don't get me wrong: I like OA the way it is but I expected something different...

I dont think the Takistanis are the bad guys because they are socialist or Islamic extremist. I think they are the bad guys because they they are threatening their neighbours and destabilising the entire region. I think the only reason for refering to them as socialist was to explain their ex soviet weaponry. As for making them Islamist extremist, it would be unwise for any publisher to demonise any religion in the current political climate. I see their socialism and islamist belief as coincidental more than anything else. After all, the majority of the middle east is Islamist.

I'm waiting for the boxed version, so I can't check, but does OA provide an L-39ZA for Takistan? Could recreate the beginning of "Tomorrow Never Dies" with that. ;)

That was the first thing I thought when I saw that plane. I'm still considering it.

I have barely started the campaign, but decided to have some fun with it.. So I loaded up the campaign missions (Good Morning Takistan first) in the editor and noticed that several persons (Graves, Pierce, Herrera) where "playable" (Drace is selected player). However I could not choose them trough the unit section in the map. So I decided to change playable to player and previewed the mission. What I got was the mission in a different "pov" with different objectives for each of these characters etc.

Are these different pov's only doable in the editor or do you also get to play them when going through the campaign normally?

They're what you get if you play the campaign in MP with 4 friends. ;)

Just remembered why I hate vanilla ArmA. The AI is so super-human, even on regular with their skill level turned all the way down, a Takistani military with a lee-enfield will be able to hit you from well over 500m away, in no light situations, whilst your down behind a rock with ONE SHOT.

I already miss mods like ACE and GL4, the AI is completely retarded at everything else but at shooting, they will insta-kill you.

Is it right that BIS are not going to upgrade their default A2 units with OA feature?

Guess that most people who do like to play OA with A2 units & stuff will get upset and angry about this decision. Its imho better if BIS would release an A2 upgrade including OA features - only working while using/playing OA + A2. For now its seems better to start and use OA and A2 separately to avoid unhappy people.

Hmmm... i had the exact opposite experience.

The OPFOR in OA reacted rather late and once they shot at me they often missed.

In night missions they seem to have trouble finding you as it should be without night vision googles.

in one of the last missions i took out lots of troops from distance without getting fired at...

And overall i think i was dying lot lot less than in A1 or A2.

However overall i think that is also due to the fact that you see the enemy now without grass and due to the new recoil settings you can hit lot better with most weapons.

In fact, this sort of inconsistency is something of a theme in Operation Arrowhead's campaign. After a somewhat baffling introduction which stuttered like an inebriated Gareth Gates on my PC, I found myself taking part in an airborne invasion of an airfield in the fictional country of Takistan (no prizes for guessing which conflict-ravaged country BI's new landscape is based on). The mission itself was intense and exhibited what ArmA 2 did best – realistic infantry combat and heart-and-minds warfare against the backdrop of a much bigger ongoing conflict. Weirdly, the playable mission also ran much smoother than the unplayable intro, although the frame-rate still has a tendency to drop drastically in built-up areas.

You could have put that in the existing thread here:

About the review... meh... the summary sounds rather stupid and makes me wonder if they actually played OA or just judged by ArmA 1.00...

If one cant see what a big improvement this addon is then it cant be helped i guess.

Well, while i tend to agree with what's written on the campaign, lot's of things/improvements are simply not mentioned which make that review quite poor and quickly done, even if humorous sometimes.

due to the new recoil settings you can hit lot better with most weapons.

The new recoil system makes it harder to hit people. Try standing up with an FAl and try to hit someone 100 meters away. It wont happen.

I'm sorry but that review sucks!

How can they talk about this game and not even make real screens shots for themselves? They may complain about this game, but there reviewers status must be equal to their use of language..

As usual they reviewed the campaign , which as most of us know is buggy

Its only a 1 page "review" , so I dont think they spent long playing it

ironic considering the site has informer in its title.

They dont even mention the multi at all , hatchet job review at its finest

what's more interesting is usage of screenshots released ~ 2009/09 as media pack ...

Well as guessed it is probaly just a quickly done review where one played a bit in the campaign and sp and then looked at their ArmA2 test and e voila the new test is done.

Using screens from the press kit especially if they are that old are the best sign of a reviewer having no intrest in the game he reviews.

Sometimes makes me wonder how much gems i may have missed because of such rushed reviews...

Could that be to do with co-op? As in each player controls one of the characters? If so, that's sweeeeet.

I had no stuttering what so ever and i find choppers VERY easy to fly. clearly had no clue what he was doing. this is not cod where you can pick up and play within 5 minutes.

Edit: does the campaign remind anyone of Generation Kill? C.F Kane even looks like the commander lol
