Well it would seem obvious, but I'm really surprised that the improvements aren't in there already. The build number for OA 1.52 is much higher than A2 1.07 after all.

How is battling on the new maps?, does it feel more free, flowing, enjoyable?? What i mean, is though cher(cant spell)rs looked great, battles often were annying in rural areas. Everytime you were under fire id dive to the floor and then be blinded by grass and then thats it, end of engagement. Ethier through me diying, or crawling somewhere there was cover so i could kneel over the grass lol.

Yes i know this might be how its surposed to go, but that grass is like that over the entire map lol, i live in the new forest and hardly anywhere has grass like cher(cant spell)rs lol

Perhaps it's only improvements for dedicated servers that are not implemented

Arma 2 1.07 is more advanced in some terms than OA (basically, in terms of multicore performance, memory management and file handling, OA is closer to A2 1.05 than A2 1.07). Why? It is very simple: 1.07 has reached relatively stable state only days ago so there was no chance to include this in OA for release.

Or course, we are working to merge all the new improvements in core engine to OA as soon as possible.

If you have something new (or some "ported" arma²-improvements) to test for us-let us know by releasing a beta-patch.

I think you will have a big testing audience right now after the release of OA.

Perhaps for the future of beta-testing, it would be good to have some sample-missions (or a user-mission like ArmA2 FPS analyser by sbsmac) released with the betas to test specific changes of the engine and its stable-state. -This would give you and us the possibility to compare different values by users more specific.

I thought so.. :) probably a good call playing it safe with OA incase something catastrophic happened... ;)

cant wait to see it and the other improvements from the latest arma2 beta patches though implemented in OA!

Honestly, with all the people in another thread unanimously swearing they get better performance with OA, I was starting to doubt my sanity / setup.

Good to hear that we'll be back to the improvements of 1.07 soon.

Congrats to all at BIS, I've been with you all every step of the way since OFP, I found ArmA disappointing, ArmA 2 was fun at times but not consistently enough..... a few hours into OA now and I can honestly say I haven't had this much fun with an expansion in any game, in any genre since OFP:R

The Eurogamer review is well written. Ill quote a part of it.

The paper-thin characters are half the problem. I think I could get a little more excited about the fun but familiar campaign outings if I was undertaking them in the guise of someone who didn't come out with phrases like "Taking heat from some pissed-off Takis? Just how I like it, Sir!" or, "You want us to stop a bomb raid with bare hands and Takistani scrap metal?" at regular intervals.

Bohemia, just for a change, how about giving us a character with a little flesh on his bones. Someone with doubts, fears, or worries at home. A soldier with a chip on his shoulder or a crazed or incompetent CO could have been fascinating. A really brave developer would have given us a protagonist with a slight case of PTSD or made him the conflicted child of Takistani immigrants to the US. Far too often, the Czechs' interest in realism seem to stops at the armoury door.

The demands of eurogamer sound like the good old OFP campaign to me^^

As much as I like a good story, I feel the ideas in this sentence are kind of bad movie cliches (that tend to result in a lot of eye-rolling on my part). Fortunately, at least in my experience, you very rarely run into people like that in the real US military; most everyone is just a normal person trying to do an honest job at whatever he or she is doing, with normal dreams and normal problems but capable of extraordinary things in tough circumstances. At least in my opinion, you can get a pretty good war story by putting together a bunch of characters with realistic personalities and just letting them problem-solve their way through some challenge and show them working through the issues inside themselves (like some of the other examples the reviewer uses), between themselves, and the bigger combat problem at hand, without having to be preachy or make stereotypes. (Anyone remember that old reality TV show from many years back called Combat Missions? I kind of liked that show in that way, now that I think of it...)

They're also forgetting that the community can add its own storylines if they so choose. I've have played a few campaigns in Arma 2 that had some good background to the main character.

I agree that BIS could improve on the story. Personally I really, really like the gameplay in OA's campaign. It's akin to OFP's, which is great. So now that they've got a winning formula for the gameplay, I'd like to see a good story attached to it in the future. If all else fails, they could always get Gaia to do the story. :p

Its a war game so the story is secondary, the characters, dialog (!!), events and situations are what really matters.

I think for one, to make the characters more believable is to actually get rid of the cliche sayings heard in the game and as NFO said, inventing crazy characters as well would not be realistic. I think first, they should get good voice actors and actually talk with current members of the US Army and just interact with them, hell maybe if they permit, kind of shadow an active duty officer through day to day duties on and off the battlefield to give the writers a more solid and believable inspiration to create dialogue.
