ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

All of you guys complaining know you're going to buy it anyway so why bother posting? I just hope there won't be another release date fiasco with some countries getting it months later.

Screw the people who spent their time working on it, they don't have a family to feed, no bills to pay and hey they don't even need food - they are just game designers, to hell with them.

Some of you are so naive I wonder if you come straight of the kindergarten because only those still believe that everything is for free and you have only to ask for or demand it.

BTW, ACE team consists of people but not robots:) But they did not sell the results of their hard work. Though ACE mod and islands pack for ArmA1 was IMO much more significant and added more new stuff to vanilla game than Queen's Gambit. So I don't see any reasons against this expansion to be free.

Of course Arrowhead must be free!

Most definitely! Tied in red ribbon with coupons for: *deep breath*1 night with a high class escort a magnum of champagne a months lease a chauffeur driven limo (choice of models please) the latest ati/nvidia GPU (at time of release not now) 2 weeks holiday (again with choice of location) & spending money a bit part in the movie tie in (which I now demand) track ir better graphics the ability to run smooth on my old P100 with 32MB of ram a space monkey no make that 2 space monkeys a new pair of shoes and *deep breath* a slice of cake (kiplings mind you) and a pot of tea.

Failing that, I'll just gladly pay for it and am greatly looking forward to it. Thanks for listening.

The majority of the ACE team no doubt did the mod for their own personal enjoyment rather than to make a living however - They have jobs working for companies that make money by producing something, usually goods or services.

I am sure the concept is not entirely alien to all of you, no doubt some of you are able to hold down a job even if you fail to grasp the foundations of modern economy. And that business are created to do one thing and one thing only; generate revenue. If you don't want to help this particular company earn revenue through the sales of this prospective expansion pack, there is one sure-fire strategy to avoid doing it.... That's right, don't buy it. That way it's completly free aswell!

Hi,

@nominesine

I remember your campaign (Blue Skies - the first one). It was a piece of art. Hope your still in the business of campaign making. Cant wait for your next one.

I am indeed. At the moment I'm working on a Coop campaign for ArmA2 with a mission maker called Laggy (you can find samples of his work in OFPEC's MP Missions depot if you care to take a look - I truly recommend it). The project at hand is a two player, story driven series of missions about two brothers returning to Chernarus after several years abroad. It's supposed to be a low level resistance style campaign. No special forces, no fancy addons. But lot's of cinematics and storytelling elements. But if Opertion Arrowhead is indeed set in a desert environment it may be a good place to rewamp Blue Skies for ArmA2.

I will be nice if the current map will get more roads and city's. Now only 1 third of the map is being used. That will also be a good new addon for this game.

I am looking forward to Arrowhead lets see how it will be

So... we should start paying modders, then? :raisebrow:

Actually, come to think of it, due to the current status of ArmA II, I'm starting to feel more like supporting the modders than the devs...

There's a difference between employment and hobby, but it wouldnt be the first time I have donated to a modders site. Sometimes I wonder why the modders even bother when I see all the "I want it yesterday and it better be for free and perfectly bug free!" type posts.

US Army?

Awesome. The screenshots look a bit like Afghanistan

This. Good move switching to the Army, that alone will get me buying this game. Just put in my damn Bradley.

I hope the expansion would fix some of the long standing realism issues that have been there since OFP, for example:

- Proper weapon magazine/chamber simulation (ie. you can have a round in the gun separate from the magazine attached to it, and you need to pull the hammer if you fire it completely empty)

- Adjustable rifle sights, barrel heating for machine guns, removal of rounds remaining from HUD and replace with more realistic system

- Better vehicle damage system, no total destruction of a car for example no matter how much it is fired at with non-explosive rounds (and no magical everyone-inside-immediately-dies feature even if hit by an explosive)

- Improvements in the weapon systems (FCS for tanks, some improvements in the radar systems and guided weapons)

- Many other things I cannot remember now

Typical fps games have many of these features today, even "arcade" shooters that have better weapon simulation than ArmA 2. They were issues with OFP already, but understandable since the game was otherwise so revolutionary and it would really be the time to fix at least some of them

Hello BIS, i really hope your read this post by Kegetys very very carefully...

Also, do you really think deleting critical posts is going to solve or help you with anything at all? :o

A really large part of the fellow old community is still really mad at you, no matter if you delete such posts or not.

I personally would predict (after reading all those nice posts in german comments and forums about your new "addon") that only 1 out of 10 Arma2 buyers, will buy your extension (if anyway).

Also it seems that people are really mad about this new "delete all critical posts" method you have started recently.

Good Luck for the future with this policy.... ;):(

I think they're showing it off in the games conferences later this week: forgot the name, but the one that runs from the 19th to the 23rd.

I just went through 55 pages and my head is about to explode.

Rant Mode beware

I just read nearly 55 pages of rants so I decided to have 1.

Its simple. You don't wanna buy it. Don't buy it. But don't complain about not being able to download missions and addon's. I'm sure ArmA2 will still be patched but you wont get the new features and stuff. and complaining about getting a expansion for free is........well, Childish.

Rant mode end

Now onto Arrowhead. I'm looking forward to it. Just like I was looking forward to ArmA2. and I cant wait to find out what extra features and stuff it might have in it.

Wow - where did you get this from? Some guys might be mad because of missing patch support, but BIS already said, that they will support ArmA2 further on. So where is your problem? I can't hear those whiners anymore. If you don't want to buy it - don't do it. In the end you will buy it and start whining again. Can you explain me this confusing behavior?

Like some South Estearn Euro countries located near the Black Sea :(

On topic

I hope they add the capability to ride in the back of cargo planes/helicopters without sitting down. You know what I'm talking about .

Regardless of what they do or do not introduce in the new game , I will buy it . :)

I agree, if modders make a better product than BIS, should they be given a paycheck?

If one makes a better campaign or singleplayer mission than the "epic storyline award winning flawless campaign", can one sell that content instead of giving it away for free since apparently the only thing that everyone bought ArmA 2 was for the editing/multiplayer?

Its only a matter of time before some lawsuit of somesort regarding this comes up. Let me guess though, I'm talking nonsense.

They deleted pointless whining posts that did not contribute to this thread at all. The point was not to help themselves, but to help the average user looking for information and instead finding 50 pages of nonconstructive crap.

I'm sure they do, but their main concern surely is whether they have something to cool their hunger at the end of the day.

I still have faith in BIS, despite some 'love-disappointments' or call'em whatever you want.

And for some reason, I have the slight impression that this expansion will kick ass.

Why?

Very simple, OFP DR is a serious competitor to ArmA II series, and if BIS won't make the necessary efforts to stay in competition then there will be no doubt that BIS will suffer the consequences of all of their countless previous little mistakes.

OFP DR looks more and more promising, despite being slightly BF2ish but this won't stop this game from coming as a serious threat to ArmA II on the long run.

We have to admit that not of all of us will be playing both games and a part of the community 'could' move to the new CM game.

[Of course, only if OFP DR respects some 'minimum Realism Standards'].

TB

since that other thread got closed for whatever reason and i typed my reply already, ill post it here:

first, about that OFP2 video, i hate the the weapon wobble and the "strange" movement (possible caused by an console controller. other then that, the NV is way too bright unrealistic, same as for the thermal view, i mean, they talk about "real" tactics and crap, but this game is far from realistic and i cant wait to tell them at gamescon next week! :) and they also said they play on hardcore, why is there a unrealistic compass on top of the screen and why are enemies shown on the map on hardcore mode?

the lighting, the voices and the reports on enemy positions are great though.

regarding AH features...

- realistic physics (tanks wont be stopped from full speed to stop when hitting a tree, fences/walls dont fall in blocks, vehicles dont flip over when driving over rocks)

- better performance

- overhauled ingame multiplayer browser with favourite tab, full list of players etc

- reaslistic ballistics including sight adjustment

is what i wish.

My wishes for ArmA AH are :

- Decent/Acceptable Performance (At least, a better performance than in ArmA II, heh).

- Decent Engine Streaming (Realistic Drawing when you Advance).

- Bugs-Free game (At least, the bugs free possible).

- Include as much as features as you can, the more there are, the better the game will be.

- A good and entertaining campaign.

Regards,

TB

Also, do you really think deleting critical posts is going to solve or help you with anything at all?

§18) No public discussion on how the forum is moderated

All of the deleted posts were removed because of off-topic rant, spreading rumors about "BIS not further patching ArmA2" and other nonsense which purpose is either to bash BIS for releasing an expansion or informative posts like "Not buying it".

Personal reply:

As for your "german comments and forums only 1 of 10 is buying it". Nothing new, especially the german community was also boycotting the ArmA1 expansion for the same "excuses". I stopped reading and commenting in the german forums long time ago, simply because that attitude there is pissing me off. It's even more worse than all deleted rantings here - typical german: cry and complain as much as you can - Sad but true.
