negah 26 Posted December 6, 2014 So here I was talking with a couple of mates today what was my most favorite game after 2000. I admit i am a bit drunk so I apologize for any grammatical inconsistencies up front. So back on topic my most favorite game after 2000 was Dishonored. I also know that most of you would be die hard fans of ArmA games, just as me, so to make it even Id suggest lets put those games out of the compitition, because we know, they are not games, but more like our religion. First I am a fan of stealth games with Thief, Splinter Cell, Hitman and MGS being some of my favorites. But Dishonored had also a great Setting of Victroian England, a great unexplored ära in my opinion. with some fantasy aproachesm that where not that important nonetheless. So as I said, there were a lot of games in 2000 that had a geat impact on me, like Rome Total War, or Half Life 2, or WarCraft 3 but Dishonored had the most psychological impact on me. So what your most favorite of the past Doom era.
kbbw123 115 Posted December 6, 2014 i gave it a good thought and i would have to put up: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. I remember clearly how it was when i just started playing the game and just watched those amazing carribean Ilands with amazing watefalls or the giant whale jumping out of the water. thats definetly the most awesome game i played
tpw 2315 Posted December 6, 2014 Well I don't class the Arma series as a game, more of a hobby all of itself, so it doesn't factor in my considerations even though I've literally put thousands of hours into it. Long list: Too long, I've played probably 100+ PC games since 2000. Shortlist: Doom 3 Half Life 2 Skyrim Crysis Call of Duty 4 Dishonoured Far Cry 4 Mirror's Edge Metro 2033 I don't think I can really pick a winner, each of these games has something just outstanding about it. vran. 13 Posted December 7, 2014 My fave games post 2000 are Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis + Resistance, Vietcong + Fist Alpha, NFS: Porsche 2000, Sacrifice, Black & White, Rune + Halls of Valhalla, Soul Reaver 2, Project IGI, Blood Omen 2, Hitman 2, Hitman: Blood Money, Disciples II: Dark Prophecy, Soldier of Fortune, Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, Ghost Recon, Live For Speed, Halo: Combat Evolved, Call of Duty, Trackmania, etc. I consider myself a PC gamer. I had a Xbox 360 Elite but it didn't 'click' with me.
mr burns 132 Posted December 7, 2014 OFP for (expected) longevity. Morrowind for surprising "how the fuck did i not play this 3 years earlier" factor. SoldiersHeroesOfWW2 for unsurpassed shits & giggles. Many other great titles out there (GTA4 comes to mind) but those 3 above stuck the most with me.
JdB 151 Posted December 7, 2014 OFP obviously. My criteria besides the obvious ones like enjoyment, open nature, no rails, thinking game etc are also things like longevity and long term support by the developer. If I exclude OFP like the OP asked it's probably Age of Empires 2 and Close Combat 2/3 (technically 2 was released in 1999). Both games are moddable with scenario editors, versatile, offer lengthy campaigns and have a fairly high learning curve. I spent several years playing both and have played Age of Empires 2 HD and Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem and Iron Cross (modern remakes/updates of the games) and still enjoyed them even though their graphics look ancient. That's one of the main criteria for me, that games are good despite their looks.
negah 26 Posted December 7, 2014 Id like to add Blitzkrieg 1 to my List of favorite games. It was different from other strategy games and was more like a wargame. And it still has a large community creating great mods for it. I see the Men of War series as a spiritual successor to Blitzkrieg. And Id also like to point out that the most favorite games seem to be those with great modding capability, which keeps those games alive for years. Best examples would be OFP/ArmA or Battlefield 2. Sadly the publishers see it as a competition and therefore create things like Battlefield 3 and 4 + 20 DLCs each containing 3 maps and a couple of weapons. dmarkwick 261 Posted December 7, 2014 OK so I'll not nominate the obvious; OFP, ArmA etc. For me I guess it'd be similar to Mr Burns above: Morrowind. It opened my eyes to what FPS/RPG gameplay could (and should) be like. I never really got into RPGs as such, but the magic combo that Bethesda created really, really appealed to me. Shout out to Portal too. A perfectly formed game IMO, short, interesting, funny.
roberthammer 582 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) There are alot of great games from 2001-2006 which would be a huge list - mainly OFP , Mafia , Vietcong , Deus Ex etc but my fav games from modern era (2006 to present) - would be the Batman: Arkham Asylum + Arkham City , Uncharted series , RDR , maybe Deus Ex Human Revolution and ofc all MGS except Rising spinoff :p Edited December 7, 2014 by RobertHammer
mistyronin 1181 Posted December 7, 2014 Taking a holistic approach, I'd say that Metal Gear Solid 4. It is a really neat product.

Rydygier 1317 Posted December 7, 2014 (edited) Exlcuding Arma? Not so many bought last years, and many earlier forgotten, while many favourites are from past millenium, but: - Total War series - Hitman series - Witcher series - Vampire: Bloodlines, indeed - Mount&Blade (sorta, I didn't liked it because lack of saves at first, until lately tried again and discovered, so now I can save the game without exiting (finally). Vanilla goes dull after some time, but Warband with GBs of mods awaits my attention soon) - Mass Effect 2&3 - X3 (+ Terran conflict) - Deus Ex series - Neverwinter Nights 2 - Stalker series - Hearts of Iron series - Fallout: New Vegas (let's say...) - ?... andersson 285 Posted December 7, 2014 OFP and morrowind (AvsP gold is just pre 2000, if not it would have been there too). That is really it. The vanishing of Ethan Carter was nice, but most games do not impress me that much at all.
vran. 13 Posted December 7, 2014 Id like to add Blitzkrieg 1 to my List of favorite games. It was different from other strategy games and was more like a wargame. And it still has a large community creating great mods for it. I see the Men of War series as a spiritual successor to Blitzkrieg. I liked Blitzkrieg also. It was similar to Sudden Strike but imo more refined and believable. I didn't enjoy the successor much when I tried it out but I'm one of those 'dinosaurs' who think that 3D doesn't work well for strategy games (except for Total War games and WC3 and SC2, but those have fixed cameras anyway). :p Some post 2000 shooters were pretty great also such as Serious Sam First + Second Encounter, No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Jedi Outcast, Elite Force, Aliens vs Predator 2, ect. It was a time when Raven Software and Monolith Productions were still big names in the FPS genre.

opteryx 1562 Posted December 9, 2014 I can list a lot more titles pre-millenium, I think games are/have gotten progressively worse over the last one and a half decades. I can't name one single title that stands out more than any other, but some honorable mentions would be: Grand Theft Auto III Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Elderscrolls: Oblivion Fahrenheit Mirror's Edge Silent Hill 3 Battlefield 2 :Project Reality Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies Hitman 2: Silent Assassin Probably forgot a few important titles. Oh and there's OFP/ArmA series, but those are hobbies, not games.
jakerod 254 Posted December 11, 2014 I feel the need to specify this: OFP:CWC, OFP:R, Armed Assault, ArmA II (OA, BAF, & PMC... I'll reluctantly include ACR because I enjoyed some of the missions) Now that we got those out of the way... Top 5 Franchises (minus ArmA) Legend of Zelda Portal Wargame Delta Force Burnout Top Games: LoZ: Skyward Sword LoZ: Twilight Princess Portal Portal 2 BioShock (Maybe 2 and Infinite as well I'm not sure.) SWAT 4 Supreme Commander Wargame (EE, ALB, RD) Spec Ops: The Line Delta Force 2 (Was released in NA in the 90s but since it was released in other places in the 2000s I am counting it) Delta Force: Black Hawk Down Ace Combat 6 Close Combat: The Longest Day Halo (1, 2, 3 & Reach... didn't get to play ODST or 4 yet but probably won't play 4) Burnout 3 Burnout Paradise Perfect Dark Honorable Mentions that I have either not played yet or haven't had enough time to play but think would make it: Kerbal Space Program LoZ: Majora's Mask Metro 2033 America's Army: Proving Grounds (maybe)
