max power 21 Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) I'm finished all of the maps for this now. To celebrate I thought I would show a closeup of the colt 3x20 scope. Thanks to Col. Faulkner for identifying the scope from ofp screenshots for me and pointing me to some references. It's not 100 percent accurate because the model was doing bad things with so many holes in it, but I think it looks okay. Laqueesha 474 Posted January 4, 2011 It's also properly mounted as would be on a 16A1-16A2 configuration. Call of Duty: Black Ops had an M16A1 with a removable carrying handle. WTF?

I have no idea. These are some reference images I used for mags with the matte finish wearing off: http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:v_-wPZN_MTesiM:http://www.charleyssurplus.com/M16%20MAGAZINE%20COUPLER.JPG&t=1 http://www.aubruin.com/photos/AA%20Auctions/BeaversAR15Mags30roundAdventureLine%283%291/01.jpg I wanted this rifle to look old because it is a Vietnam war era design, in contrast to the m16a2 which wasn't even in service yet in CWR's 1985... also, I wanted to play with materials blending into other materials. I'll consider revising the worn paint in the future.

I just wanted to point out that that second image is not an actual firearm. It is a good model, but it is not perfectly accurate in form or texture.

johncage 30 Posted January 4, 2011 protip:when you find reference pictures of either worn out and clean equipment, always use the clean one in the absence of an intermediate.
max power 21 Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) protip:when you find reference pictures of either worn out and clean equipment, always use the clean one in the absence of an intermediate. I'm not sure that I agree in this case. There is no shortage of reference for this rifle, others like it, or magazines both USGI or aftermarket. For this piece, as it is a vietnam war era rifle being used in 1985, and it's on the verge of being phased out at that time, I wanted it to look like it has seen 15 years of hard use. Moreover, it's a weapon for the BlackOps and for vehicle crews, so I wanted it to look like it's seen harsh environments and/or like it's been rattling around in a vehicle for 10 years. The magazine itself is slightly more beat up than the most beat up reference that I found, but I like the effect. It was definitely an experiment in how to render paint wearing off to an undercoat to bare metal. I think a better protip would be to have a clear concept on the look of your model, and to find lots of good reference with those goals in mind. bad benson 1733 Posted January 5, 2011 these are some screenshots of the upcoming OA version of my Uruzgan map. i had a long break because i had some issues keeping me from continuing. now that everything (for now:o) is sorted i started placing objects. the plants are basicly done but still need detailing in some areas. i'm going for a more golden sand and overall more saturated look than Takistan. http://img210.imageshack.us/i/oruzgan46.jpg/ http://img341.imageshack.us/i/oruzgan53.jpg/ http://img137.imageshack.us/i/oruzgan55.jpg/ http://img696.imageshack.us/i/oruzgan61.jpg/ these are just some teaser shots. i'll make a new thread with more information and screenshots as soon as the road network is finished. Gnome_AS 10 Posted January 5, 2011 So I decided to re-model el boat contiguously in hopes of developing a better workflow in modeling for our beloved game. Set me back a little, around 80% done once again ... but coming along pretty well. Hopefully be able to start unwrapping it by the end of the week. Assuming life allows the time of course. :) --- --- .
