Latest ArmA2 & ArmA2:OA Press Coverage | NO discussion here!

Recommended Posts

All get same version from february (this is reason why they have small clutter visibility), so tiscali have some serious HW problems ( we ask them, but they was not able to answer) or they just have some personal problems with us......

- Securom copy protection

This is from the german preview. Are there still as many problems with securom as there where before the arma 1 release?? Was just wondering since there was a very big discusions about it back then resulting in going away from securom because people talked about boycutting the game.

Also if they want to protect it more then why not go for steam. Seems there are no problems with steam and more and more bigger games are going for steam.

:notworthy:

Tiscali is an odd company. So... is the preview version going to be released soon as a public demo? I'm guessing you won't be able to answer that...

Okay so what do you guys think Fillrate optimizer does?

Video memory and IGUI are also nice additions.

I love the colours and the setting of the game. Will definitly buy the game a couple of times :p and probably for console aswell if that is still coming.

Are those volumetric clouds on the top and left of the screen? I always disliked the completely flat clouds which the game used to have.

I'd assume that they are volumetric, as the fog is as well.. just a guess.

I felt like I was going to fall through my frikkin screen looking at that image! The blur is very well done, can't wait to see it in motion.. Hope I don't throw-up.. (It's a good thing, really!):yay:

if that blur effect is now possible with AA2, i have already a few ideas where it could be used ;)

Is it me. But in one of the screenshot's. There was an US Army SSgt. Rank Insignia. I hope BIS correct this error before release date. For a SSgt in the Marine Corps is a Platoon Sgt. Where as in the US Army they are Squad Leaders.

Volumetric clouds are confirmed. I don't think i allready saw this in here so:

Some parts from VBS1&2 are included in ArmAII like some animals, units, vehicles and tracers. (From the german community day texts)

Edit: I think it's Utes too, looks like some kind of counter part of Rhamadi

wow, stunning images..

yes, if you ask me Tiscali has some real problems with their hardware...

Seems like they have some sort of texture problem.

In every other preview the images look amazing.. can't wait for it... :D

Is there a second airfield?

In this Screenshot you can see an

Airfield on the right side very close to the water.

If you see on the Map of Chernarus the main airfield (and i assumed the only one) is in the northwest of chernarus.

:)

Well done De_little_Bubi

You truly have found a mystery.

First thing we need to do is divide the map up into a notional grid then go round the coast line and see if we can match it to the picture anywhere.

Kind Regards walker

Edit and chris64 has already solved the mystery before my post is finished.

I think he's looking to the east, according to the airfield and because there are no islands visible. Allso the roads for comparison. Might be a military base a little bit out on the ozean, like said allready: Something like Rhamadi.

Here you see where Utes is: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9801/arma2hg4.jpg

Edit: More than just to late

I think that's intentional.

In Czech it would Kamenný (Stony in English), but BIS is trying to give it a little bit more eastern-like language.

Okay so what do you guys think Fillrate optimizer does?

...

There are actually two answers to it from the german reviews:

Armed-Assault.de Review

Damit das Spiel auch auf langsameren System flüssig läuft wurde zusätzlich eine Einstellung "Fillrate" eingeführt, die eine 3D Szene in kleiner Größe berechnet, auf die eingestellte Auflösung skaliert und dann das 2D Interface darüberlegt. Jan nannte in diesem Zusammenhang "Mass Effect", ein Spiel mit ähnlicher Lösung.

It says to improve performance on low-end systems, with a reduced fillrate the 3D scene is calculated in a smaller size, then rescaled to the actual resolution and finally overlaid with the interface. The game "Mass Effect" is supposed to use a similar solution.

ArmAMDB.de Review

Here they relate it to the Anti-Aliasing and it is supposed to significantly affect the performance and visual quality. Below 100% edges are more staggered but performance is significantly improved. Above 100% everything gets smoother but performance drops dramatically. With this slider everyone should be able to get the best balance of performance vs. quality.

Actually I think they both describe the same, the first the used technique, the latter the way it affects the game.

I guess it might also be useful to play it on flatscreen monitors in their native resolution even on a mid/low-end PC...

My first bug report for BIS :D , there is a typo in the briefing or the map in this screen:

http://www.armaholic.com/datas/users/4-tiscali_games_preview_april_10.jpg

Is it Kamenny or Kamenyy? :p

I think that's intentional.

In Czech it would Kamenný (Stony in English), but BIS is trying to give it a little bit more eastern-like language.

EDIT: lol, just realized! (on briefing it's kamenny, and on map kamenyy)

Anybody else notice that the arma2 german previews are completely different then the czech ones? Like, the screens in all the czech ones look screwed up and the settings suck. Then tiscali complaining about performance. But the german ones have everything cranked up high/veryhigh with max hd resolution and great performance (just one gtx280). Something is seriously wrong here. Also notice that some unit icons are different in certain czech previews.

Alreigh Burke DDG?

I wouls like to know more about this! If there are "native" ships (not just inflatable ones) it is very good news. Gnat's subs will fit even more than in Arma1

That in the background is most likely a destroyer - looks like one- linked previously in this thread
