Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

Recommended Posts

Bah, the Dutch performance and "tactic" killed the match, not the referee.

Their tactic was to defend, bruise someone (Ronaldo was deliberate) out of the game to mess the oponent team and do their poorly executed counter atacks, if you think a team playing like that deserved to win your mad, they were the ones who started playing rough, Portugal started well but were forced to play at the oponents low standard level, if the match played out properly Portugal would have won 2-1 or 3-1 easily.

This crap match will with no doubts have a bad impact on the portuguese performance against the brits. I still think Portugal-England will be a good match though smile_o.gif .

I'm just lost for words ,,, this isn't happening, it's just too sur-real.

Well, the only thing I liked in this match is how Hiddink has immidiately reacted on the (undeserved) expulsion (some managers can't even comprehend that they have an extra player in such ocasions), and transfered to 3-4-3 system, and in 80 min. with Aloisi in to 3-3-4! But ,,, their attacks were sooooooooo slow, so sterile, always thru the middle ,,, and where is Kewell, where is Cennedy, for god sake Gus  ? ? ?

The ref? No comment ...

@PainDealer: Havent seen it from the beginning but if they played from the start like they did in the 70th minute i´ll guess they were just exhausted. Todays weather is´nt hot but the humidity really get´s you, every move is too much..

If they were exhausted it must have been from the warm up or then they've done serious drinking yesterday. This all just makes me wonder why the hell people can't play football like they played 20 years ago. Maybe it's just the money they get from the leagues and can't risk themselves. Would be a disaster to get injured and not paid...

Quote[/b] ]Seriously, I agree with those who say that both the teams played an horrible match, but after all the whole quality of this Championship is below the lowest expected level.

I disagree, several matches were great, I would say almost all of them were very good, maybe some of them sounded a bit boring, but you have to know that these players are human and they are affected by the heat, especially when they play at 5:00 PM.

If you watch carefully the difference between matches that are played at 9:00 PM and those played at 5:00, you would notice that those 9:00 PM matches are more spectacular, and less boring than 5:00 PM ones.

Concerning the match between Italy and Australia, I think that both of them played very well, they defended quite well and they did their best, even if the red card wasn't deserved, and the same goes to the penalty, but italians held very well against aussies and they deserve to get further.

Well, the Italians just play football on such way; they're 'killing' the game for all 90 mins, hoping they'll score somehow. But if they don't, it's OK, we didn't receive a goal also, that's how they're thinking and acting. Like today.

Shite win for Italy, they did in no way deserve to come out at the winning end.

So now the heat becomes a problem? Those guys play for living! I'm sure they're more than used to playing in "a bit warmer" climate. I'd consider it no excuse. If I'm not terribly wrong the -94 final was played in Dallas in the middle of summer and it should be hot as hell there. Still the players put effort in the match and it's one of the best 120min matches I've ever seen, even with no goals scored.

Today's temperature was 24°C. Hardly too hot.

I agree, Italy don't play spectacular, they never played spectacular from when football was invented. That's one of the reasons form my semi-non-existant love for this team.

Btw you can't imagine the pressure here in Italy, football journalists are like sharks in my country, when they smell the blood they attack without mercy and often without a cause. They aren't capable of joy for victory but are specialists in demagogy and are all excellent coaches.....None here in Italy can do his job under these conditions. It's really insane.

And worst, they're bad loosers.

yep, especially for people from Australia or Italy, they have to be used to something... It's just the way Italy plays. They play extremely defensive to start with, so with one man off they just block the match and make football impossible, hoping for one moment in a counter.

well, with all these teams going thru I really don't like, I'm actually starting to become a fan of.... Germany! Go Mannschaft, zum Weltmeistershaft! tounge2.gif

So ein Schuft! tounge2.gif

Usually I have the same reasons as klavan for my "semi-non-existant love" for the German team, the only exception was last year's Confed Cup, they really played well. But now, after NL is out, let's see. I'm for the team that plays the most attractive football, so currently Argentina or Spain wink_o.gif But no, not Spain. Ghana! Go Ghana! smile_o.gif

Because my nation is not on WC I'm for ,,, good and quality football, the first stage was enjoyable, but not much luck in second stage ,,, but I'm still the optimist. My heart is more and more for Spain. I also like how Germany plays, especially their last game; they looks dangerous out there, and surely they mean business!

In fact, I am to some extend familiar with that situation in Italy, and I fully understand what do you mean, but still ,,, this should be no excuse for 'charising' such tactic in football, neither in National Squad, and even less in your League.

You're perfectly right, the main problem here in Italy is that football is perceived by people (both by supporters, players and by all those who "works" in this field) as the primary, real and unique national interest for my s****y country. They aren't able to play (or even to think about of) football for joy and fun, it's all a matter of politics, money and fame. The final result came first and it must be positive, otherwise.......it's simply a national disaster!

If you're informed about the scandal that is sinking or football system you should be able to fully understand what I mean.....

It's so sad for me...... sad_o.gif

Agree with ya on the money thing.

Being born in ´82 i don´t have a good picture of the situation back then but common sense brings the thought that one million+ wages (well, turkish lira maybe biggrin_o.gif ) weren´t paid so the players who actually got into their national roster didn´t play for the bucks but for their country!

They really sould remember that they´re actually sportsmen and not filmstars, start focussing on their training and not make one ad/interview after another.

That being said, go Germany biggrin_o.gif

Well I hope England beats the crap out of Portugal. Call me a sore loser, but when I noticed Portugal disagreed with a red card I went nuts! band.gif

Well If England doesn't succeed and Portugal wins the 'Figo" kind of way. You can expect some serious riots.

Anyway, hope the referee doesn't use his automatic yellow card function this match!

May the best team win!

Comparing those two teams by their effort I'd say Portugal should advance easily enough. England is yet to show what they're capable of and if they don't do it against Portugal they can start booking tickets back home.

@ June 26 2006,15:05)]well i'm kinda of surprised that we gathered such a united group of "enemys"

Play fair, and win, lose, draw nobody will have anything but respect for the team, dive and cheat and people will quite rightly be unhappy, can you put your hand on your heart and say that the Portuguese team don't cheat? Don't dive? Don't feign injury when tackled?

With a totally undeserved red card that had left us in 10 men. Obviuosly the ref was drunk.

Anyway:

Klavan

Actually FIFA made it very clear before the start of the world cup that "lunging" at an opponent, even if you miss the opponent is a straight red card.....

http://football.guardian.co.uk/worldcup2006/story/0,,1791137,00.html

http://www.fifa2006worldcup.org/fifanew....up.html

The incident by the Italian player was a clear example of such a lunge and was rightly a red card.

I'm all for refs being criticised, but only when the criticism is actually correct wink_o.gif

Maybe you can run around for 90 minutes, lose 5kg of your body weight in moisture during that time (all under direct sunlight) and still give a supreme performance? wink_o.gif

For the England team it's only one small factor to explain their crapness, most of it is down to tactics, team selection & coach, but playing in 90f (32c) when you're certainly not used to it from playing in England will have an impact.

@klavan: What's the current state of "your" scandal? Juve, Roma, AC in the 4th league? biggrin_o.gif

Juve: risks to be kicked in 3rd league + 6 to 9 points of penalization and last two "Scudetti" removed and reassigned

Lazio & Fiorentina: risks to be kicked in 2nd league + 6 to 9 points of penalization

Milan: risks to be kicked in 2nd league (quite low risk) + 6 to 9 points of penalization

@Placebo

I've seen several time that foul (because it was a foul, no doubt) and I'm still unconvinced of the decision took by the ref. The defender had no intention to tackle opponent's legs and there weren't no clear goal occasion. The intervention was taken from the side and not from the back. The intervention was'nt even a "two-footed tackle".

No violence in that intervention.

I can't see the reason for a red card. Ok for a yellow card but not for a red one.

My opinion, nothing more.

i dont like to play the portuguese targete here, but of course i have to defend my team, specially when they are been called unfair names. i hope that my love for my team, doesnt makes me think stupid or get blind!! but the english reaction in this forum to the holand game is similar to the general uk reaction. i just couldnt believe when i read today that english federation asked fifa to punish figo for his header on the dutch guy. lets not focus in this particular situation (the game had equal or more severe situations). its just the atitute!! i just can find 1 word to describe it...FEAR!! like i told and i'll repeat, i just dont care who wins. if englands beats our ass i'll be the 1st to congratulate. if they lose i'll be the 1st to congrat portugal.

i wouldnt find weird if it was holand asking, but come on!!

i agree portugal havent played what they can/know so far. i was expecting diferent match agains holand, but it almost became that semifinal on euro2000 against france.

so i only expect my players to galvanize themselfes to next saturday. if that happens i hope to see many of u guys changing opinions...we never won anything, so we have the right to really want a cup.but that doesnt makes us cheaters or actors. cant remind many matches that we won for cheating. probably u have dozens, but hey, thats past tense.

And the right one.

About the Ukraine - Swiss game: a good game with a good tempo, heck, Ukrains had even tried with pressing on the whole terrain couple of times, tactically interesting, but surprisingly the Swiss selector didn't reacted on the fact that Ukraine had played with only one attacker; they stay playing with four defenders in the last line. What both teams don't have is creativity e.g. they missing a creative player(s) in the middle, which made those crucial moves and passes, which usually decide the game. And as we all know, the penalty shooting is a lottery.

I'm predicting that Ukraine with such tactic will be an easy prey in their next game.
