Macadam Cow 1 Posted July 3, 2010 Hi guys So the first flying car should be released in 2011 in the US, it will cost about $194.000 (€160.000). aeQL-dUjlOg I can't wait to be stuck in a traffic jam behind this car, watching it speeding across the field and finally taking off above my stupid non-flying car. I hope they will made a flying bike coz I don't have my driver's license...yet.
roberthammer 582 Posted July 3, 2010 Best will be car not a plane ,but somekind VTOL or helicopter :D

mosh 0 Posted July 3, 2010 Is drinking and driving as bad everywhere else as it is here? This could be a mess...
Soldier of Anarchy 10 Posted July 4, 2010 I can only imagine what kind of insane FFA certifications you would have just to own one....not to mention monthly inspections. A simple fender bender or road kill could make your flying car a death trap...more so.

Pyronick 21 Posted July 4, 2010 Not really interesting. I'd be interested if it was something like a Lotus Exige with V(S)TOL capability using the same engine for ground propulsion. I don't think this will drive as good as a normal car and it probably won't be as safe in a crash like a normal car. It definately does not look as good as a normal car! :D
Flash Thunder 10 Posted July 4, 2010 Who would buy such crap? But you could get away from da POH POH :p :D OP welcome to the 1800's broski
SWT_Janowich 10 Posted July 4, 2010 Now just wait until we see a squadron of them flying into a building.
mrcash2009 0 Posted July 4, 2010 Sinclair C5 for the next decade. Crap. Bottom line its a plane that happens to act like a car, IE its a crap car, and then it sort of flies. The only time this will ever be anything of any magnitude is when they release anti gravity via and actual current run of the mill car.

Macadam Cow 1 Posted July 5, 2010 I was expecting a bit more excitement from you. No, no, it's too late, I'll do it myself...always the same here...If you want something done properly, do it yourself. guys, you don't understand, it's flying, it's f*ck*ng flying !!! Do you imagine all the possibilities behind this ? Flying bikes, flying trucks, flying tractors, flying planes,...it's unbelievable ! :don 11: :lookaround:
sudayev 27 Posted July 5, 2010 I heard DARPA is working on such veh for the Army, flying-submersible IFV or something like that. Holy smoke...!

The reality....you won't take off from a gridlocked highway saying "so long sucka's". Don't think the FAA even has a contingency plan for this thing and contraptions like it, yet...but when they do, expect every ounce of fun drained from the flying car. If they could build an ultralite version of a flying car then I could see many more people using them for recreation.

Macadam Cow 1 Posted July 7, 2010 (edited) Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm. I was joking, I was pretty disappointed too I expected something like this : But it looks like a new race has begun between east and west. Eastern scientists just released a picture of their flying car (still a prototype) : the car is looking good, we just need to find a way to maneuver and land it but we achieve our main goal : It's a car and it flies Edited July 7, 2010 by Macadam Cow
Scrub 0 Posted July 7, 2010 Well they had to start somewhere. Pretty good I'd say, as it is the only one I'm aware of that actually does what it says. Future revisions will only make it better. I'm interested in the preflight checks that are necessary with all those critical moving parts, one hinge fails and you're pretty much doomed. Maintenance hours per flight hour will be an interesting figure as well. I'd imagine the future outlook is to make it all electric, and use the lifting body model as the goal, as much as possible. Those lift surfaces need a more refined or protected form-fitting retracted position, and some method of telescoping so the lift forces don't have to rely on lock pinned hinges or hydraulics, but on the structure of the larger section the next protrudes from. The current design is not at all what I'd call inherently fail-safe. As a matter of fact there are so many flight critical moving parts I'd hesitate to buy one until I see how long it takes for the first unit to have a crash or 'incident'. Can guarantee if it is less than 4 years, this will not sell until a major overhaul changes the object of peoples' fears. High end consumers do not want to buy a death trap... Though, some will build one as a hobby... And die. *eek*
bhaz 0 Posted July 7, 2010 I'd hesitate to buy one until I see how long it takes for the first unit to have a crash or 'incident'. Thing is there, it'll probably be some poor guys roof rather than a power pole. Be interesting if the local police get issued these things. Guess they'd have to if they became public. celery 8 Posted July 10, 2010 guys, you don't understand, it's flying, it's f*ck*ng flying !!!Do you imagine all the possibilities behind this ? Flying bikes, flying trucks, flying tractors, flying planes,...it's unbelievable ! :don 11: :lookaround: Flying? Flying vehicles were invented a hundred years ago. uT2dQB_OgFE Basically the "flying car" is a propeller aeroplane with a cockpit shaped like a car. Planes have already been able to maneuver on land, and there won't be a flying revolution coming in everyday traffic until actual, ordinary cars can fly or hover safely and reliably so that the knuckleheads we have on the roads today can drive them without causing accidents. Having hundreds of small propeller planes fly around near cities is a nightmare and finding enough landing space for all of them is impossible.
