ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

CQB is overrated anyway. I like to kill targets inside buildings with the SOFLAM (if you know what i mean)

Awesome! Good find. I guess I should've read a bit harder.

I just readed it all and not found anything that caught my eye again, except for the credits.

Someone know what was the contribuition of Binkowoski?

@Laqueesha: Ok, MOUT then :) In any case, the problem for me has been to limit how far I throw it.

@Fox '09: Yeah I know what you mean. You couldn't care less if civilian lives are at risk. What if the larger strategic outcome depended on it? Sorry, but not every mission out there is about going crazy about blowing everything up. Sometimes you just need some "manual labor".

As for "overrated", I'm hoping the new interiors in OA will improve on that. Can't wait to do some combined arms MOUT stuff where you also have to be careful not to destroy anything. Too much = mission failure :p Could be nice.

... But the problem is CQB usage, you just can't toss/roll a grenade to go 5 meters into a room while you hurry back into cover. That sort of control has not existed. ACE helped though. But hopefully now that is a thing of the past. At least looking how far he tossed the IR Target Marker (in some video) seems to indicate that. Hopefully it's not bound to what you throw. ...

The big problem about throwing a grenade is not beeing mentioned to be controlable. My first throw nearly killed me. I hit the button like in A2, looked for the grenade and thought: wtf ... run! Another nice feature is that the sights are now switchable. Now the G36 is really nice baby. Red-dot optics for CQB and the scope for larger distances.

Did you check the manual? ;)

Then again, I don't even have the game yet, so I actually had time to read through it :)

and I tend to avoid it, because of obvious reasons. Usually the AI is too slow or is looking in the wrong direction anyway. But players.. nuh uh, if they're looking down those stairs waiting for you, you are dead.

ACE has helped with this a bit, with flashbangs and tear gas (although tear gas usually helps me avoid going inside)

BTW guys, I found an error on the vehicles section at arma2.com:

M2A3 Bradley IFV

The Carl Gustav (US designation MAAWS) is the common name for the 84mm man-portable multi-role recoilless rifle. This weapon was introduced in 1948 and for that time, it has greatly superior accuracy at longer ranges compared to similar anti-tank weapons. All other weapons of that era are long out of service, MAAWS is still used by many armies.

i know this is not the right place, but really, why are they doing this again? is it just yet another colt enthusiast stunt?

Price, I suppose. The SCAR's are pretty expensive last thing I heard.

The game's faction arsenal is not designed to be 100% realistic. For example there are XM8s and G36s in ArmA 2 despite the XM8 being cancelled and the G36 not being in service with US forces.

So, with that said, despite SOCOM cancelling the Mk.16, the new faction is the US Army, not necesarily all special forces, and the standard US Riflemen over seas right now are not being issued the Mk.16.

too much cost for too little return, i guess. apparently, the M4 does the job almost as well as the expensive Mk 16. and it's a time of budget cuts... :o

The game's faction arsenal is not designed to be 100% realistic. For example there are XM8s and G36s in ArmA 2 despite the XM8 being cancelled and the G36 not being in service with US forces.

that's why none of the units in ArmA 2 actually carry those guns. i think the G36 family of guns was thrown in as a gift to the German fans of the game, just like the KSK units of OA are. the XM8 may have been a left over, or a bonus.

So, with that said, despite SOCOM cancelling the Mk.16, the new faction is the US Army, not necesarily all special forces, and the standard US Riflemen over seas right now are not being issued the Mk.16.

i believe the OA alternate history expects the US Army to adopt the Mk 16 for all conventional forces, especially after the XM8 was ditched.

IMHO it would have been better to issue the SCARs to the SF units only - in OA - and equip conventional forces with M16s/M4s. but i guess BIS wanted some diversity between ArmA 2 and OA.

Nyeap..on the one hand I think it's a shame BIS might be missing out on more sales but on the other I think thank god we won't have to deal with these people..modern warfare 2 ripoff, what a close minded SOB.

That stefansnake guy is a perfect example of why alot of people dislike many console gamers..but whatever, I'm noticing a repeating word in many posts regarding "COD" so I'm pretty sure these aren't people we would want to associate or be associated with given that they believe every war game in history and recent must be a ripoff or have something to do with taking from or being like, COD.

Yup, despite MW2 now being believed to be the worst game in the COD franchise by most oldschool COD players, it has probably the second largest number of fanboys in the gaming world, after WoW of course. Everything is a copy of/rip off of MW2.

Ah but as long as you give the dronies their super sweet graphics they won't care about much else, give them their simple controls, easy to follow instructions, auto healing ability, bunny hopping and super eye candy and they will flock.

fuck BC2 and MW2. they are for kids :)

I wouldn't go quite that far, they are good games and I rather loved BC2, hell I still play battlefield 2 and CSS (though moreso for minigames) and enjoy it, but console games are getting bad rep due to the kids that can't shut their mouths about how everything is a rippoff of the latest and if it doesn't have great graphics it's junk.

It's not that they are for kids, they are just more simple and sometimes simplicity can be fun, that doesn't necessarily make them bad or kiddie.

Only going by what they believe, I personally don't care for it, looks too CGI. But we should get back on topic and off MW2 before the mods step in.
