What does ARMA 2 have that Operation Flashpoint 2 doesn't?

Recommended Posts

You don't know if OFP2 will actually have any of those things.

I know from vids, engine used and what Codemasters said. Of course nobody here can be sure, but I do think that I didn't take a big risk with these features i've listed. :j:

And that is exactly why OFP2 will be horrible.

I think so, but if they release modding tools it'll be very interresing.

What does ArmA2 have that OFP2 doesn't? Well since none of you have played OFP2 you don't know. However, I will speculate and take a couple guesses along with the rest of you.

1) ArmA2 has fixed wing aircraft and OFP2 does not.

2) ArmA2 has horrible AI and physics and OFP2 does not.

3) ArmA2 is based on a very old engine with too many limitations and OFP2 isn't.

4) ArmA2 has fake FLIR simulated really poorly and OFP2 has excellent FLIR that looks much more like the real thing.

5) ArmA2 is somewhat easy to make addons and mods for, OFP2 is using the Lua language which is a much more widely used language that has been used to make incredible mods like Garry's Mod for HL2.

6) When ArmA2s healing system works, you can magically heal all the way back to full health, OFP2 doesn't simulate some kind of magical healing, once you're hurt, you're hurt. You can patch it up and stop the bleeding, but you never get back to full health.

7) ArmA2 uses the same old hit point system and OFP2 uses an awesome damage model. So in ArmA2 if you shoot a humvee in the door enough times it will explode like a red barrel, not the case in OFP2.

There are arguements for both sides and no one can actually say until OFP2 is released. I've supported BIS since the release of the original OFP and I will continue to pay for, play, and love BIS games. However, I'm not going to crown them king and blast every other game just because I love BIS.

1st you state no one knows, then you go on assumptions....

Or worse...

A2 horrible AI, where?

OFP DR true FLIR?

OFP DR awesome scripting and addon making where? Eagle Dynamics simulations use LUA. Their scripting capabilities are near zero, though.... The language doesn't make the functionality

OFP DR super healing system where? (btw ArmA healing is fully moddable and changeable, as usual in the series)

OFP DR awesome armor system where?

Most of your points are based on assumptions. Very strange considering how you started the post....

Btw, about point 3), I'll take a bet : OFP DR will have the same limitations :p Or less capabilities. Time will tell

I read the beginning as "I will speculate". Nothing wrong with that? That's what most posts are in this thread so far...

The ending I fully agree with. The crown and king part. I'm a BIS fanboy like most guys here, but I won't doom another game until I see it myself, or other writes horrible reviews of it. Remember Arma2s first reviews btw?

Tbh the thing that really got me itching was the AI part of A2. He obviously has not seen A2 AI

Would you read what I "speculated", you'd see I don't crown any1 either.

He not so subtlely did something else here, which in effect ends up crowning one game : tried to pinpoint everything he sees failing in A2 and succeded in OFP-DR just to show how A2 will suck compared to OFP-DR... If that's not crowning :p

it are 2 different games..i think ofpDR will be constant fast action= loss of realism

the other thing is that ofpdr is more a comercialised game imo...kinda for people with less brain...easy to get into it..

there map is weird

ArmA engine is trully getting old ...tho them gamemodes arent to find elsewhere

and its getting old because we wanted it to be compatible with previous versions

bis would do everything for hes fans fixing and eventually adding if posible

i tried so many games that didnt go further then 1 patch and they never heard the gamers opinion alltho they had the forum for it...

all those other companies have the lust for money ,cod release 2 times a year no?same for battlefield

bis is totaly different ..they are freaks in what they do..they love combat realism with the good message and express there game love the 19th again

4 days to go and we will have hands on arma

i got it in german and fryday in UK-english..i will probably try ofpdr but not one game did to me what bisgames did to me and no other game will beat that ever

You guys keep going on about BIS being the original developers of OFP but IMO ARMA 1 was a failure.

I paid for ARMA 2 today as I feel BIS should have a second chance.

If it as bad as ARMA 1 was, thats it for me.

I dont like paying a lot of money for something that is not worth it.

I will also buy OFP2 and will see then who the winner is.

Speculating now about what will be in a game that has not been released yet is stupid, IMO ofcourse.

Nobody knows, why are you bashing OFP2? I mean look, you didnt yet play the game to know that its unrealistic and arcady... It could be just the videos.

You just gotta wait a little longer for a gameplay demo before comparing the 2.

I mean ArmA2 has this wierd healing system, eaven tough you have a fucked up aim afterwrards you can still heal wounds that are beyond healing. And the AI still has wierd ideas at times (chopper landing still is a lenghty process, ai randomly runs from one point to a nother, in the open will engage a enemy when it sees it instead of finding cover etc.)

And dont rely on mods, thats the communitys work, were looking at the raw vanilla game that comes out. I mean i doubt youl get all the super mods out for ArmA2 any time soon, and the awsome graphics will probably be a nail in the coffin since it will take too long to make mods the same quality as VArmA2.

As in the words of red alerts alber einstein.

Time will tell, sooner or later... Time will tell

Anyone who has played Toca Race Driver and Colin Mcrae KNOWS that Codemasters are simplifying their games, or as they put it 'making them more accessible'. It will be no different with Dragon Rising. I imagine most of the Bohemia faithful (myself included) woudn't have a problem with Codemasters if they just let go of the 'Flashpoint' name.

http://www.bistudio.com/bi-press-releases/the-name-game-codemasters-marketing-of-new-ofp-creates-confusion-provokes-protest-2_en.html

Now I hate Codemasters with a passion, partly because of their empty promises to update Dirt (which they never did) and Grid (which they say will be updated, even though it's been 6 months).

Dragon Rising will be a short lived shooter... CM are not going to make a game that doesn't appeal to the masses and the masses are sheeple :)

Hi everybody.

I read the whole topic and all I can say is that you can only do a certain comparison when OFPDR will be released to the public. Unless then everything is pure assumption. Unless somebody really played both games nobody will be able to draw conclusions.

One thing is certain . . . CM will have a hard stand with all OFP/ARMA fans out there, me included. I'll purchase it out of curiosity just to see if it might be better then the BIS developed games. Only in that case I would consider to play it more then once. I have my doubts though but prove me wrong and I would be happy to be able to play 2 good games. :D I played lots of different FPS and other war games. But none of the them ever really satisfied me. I always ended up with ArmA which substituted OFP when released. I did not play ArmA 2 so far and I'm waiting for it's release. Even I hear lot's of people ranting and the campaign is full of bugs. ArmA2 is my first choice.

I'm sure I gonna have plenty of fun since I'm more an editor guy.

I see also a lot of dissapointed people. Everybody has the right to express his opinion. Unless I can't put my hands on a better game I'll stick to BIS and ArmA2 once OFPDR will be released I'll make up my own opinion after having played both.

Stay tuned

Just a small intro and then the reason why I'm leaning towards Arma 2

First of all I think OFP2 will do fine. We can't obviously draw any conclusion as the game is still under heavy development. But take into count OFP2 is coming fall 09. Not summer 09. This is a game that for sure will take advantage of some of the feedback that comes from Arma 2. So I do expect OFP2 to be a very polished and cool experience.

But as far as realism and amount of options is concerned Arma 2 from what we can tell is more complete.

I've played Operation Flashpoint 1 and enjoyed it. Since then many things changed and I've enjoyed multiple tactical shooters of all kinds. From the ghost recons/americas army to the Battlefield games and so on. I've played the Americas Army 2 beta and i'm currently downloading the just released game. And each of this games have their pros and cons.

I just pre-ordered Arma 2 as a leap of faith. I've watched many youtube trailers and read a lot of players opinions and it seams people are quite impressed with Arma 2.

And to tell you the truth even if the game is not my cup of tea simply because perhaps it is too realistic for me I'll take my hat off to Bohemia as they implemented one of the features I've been craving for in tactical shooters for years now.

One of them that I haven't seen anywhere is :

DIRECTIONAL VOICE COMM. That is friends voice in game come from the player character. The farther you are from your comerades the less you'll hear them. This type of detail is what really has made me take Arma 2 into carefull consideration.

The other thing really is that Arma 2 is out now. OFP2 is coming out this fall. Were talking about 6 months. A lot of time in terms of games. So I'll enjoy Arma 2 now and this fall if anything I may pick OFP2

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is truly a different game than ARMA 2 of course they have their similarities but they are focused on different communities and players.

The game may attract some Operation Flashpoint 1 fans but mostly gamers who are tired of cod etc but dont want to play a simulation like ARMA 2.

OPFDR will be more of a tactical FPS however having similarities with cod it is truly a different game than that and will require more skill and knowledge to play it.

The community of ARMA is a small one you have to be honest even though it may be a great one it will not have the numbers that Flashpoint will get as it is being

released simultaneously on PS3,360 and PC there is a good chance that its community will grow and collect players from many different types of games.

People need to realise this isnt going to be a sequel to OPF1 but it can still be a good game which i hear ArmA 2 is without its many bugs.

From what I've heard, Flashpoint 2 uses an updated physics from the one they used in Dirt so I can only expect amazing things from the vehicles physics and destructible environments (hopefully). And I think that's it, oh and they aren't using a single hitbox for their vehicles (IE you can't shoot a tank with a machine gun and kill it eventually)

But Arma 2 has the community which makes it epic in every way shape and form.

i truely had high hopes for opflash dragon rising

The thought of a Huge dev house taking on the simulation genre is mouthwatering (highly detailed vehicles and interiors!). But it turns out codemasters is just following ubisoft , name hunting franchises and murdering the fundamental gameplay elements that made the name in the first place.

I first started posting at that retarded place (cm forums) around the time when the first gameplay was released.

After seeing the attitude of the admin on the site (helios) I knew almost immediately that the game would not be going in the direction of the first. but i didnt know how much it strayed off the path.

So i opened up and started pushing for answers to certian questions that i know CM didnt want to answer early on (mission editor for consoles , levels of realism)

And they mostly ignored me , until we as a community rallied together and sqeezed the shit out of him , needless to say after it was confirmed the game would not have an editor on consoles i saw many people leave right away .

But butthurt losers like sir polaris would continue to damage control the sinking of the ship all the way to the bottom of the ocean.

We finally saw actual gameplay at e3 , and it was the most horrific garbage i have ever seen , to the point where i would start firing people if i was in charge at codemasters.

Many people were outraged and left the community ( i decided to stay and fight the bullshit and try to rally people to speak their minds because the game could still be changed for the good)

But sir polaris was still gliding up and down on the shafts of CM still hanging on to the idea that this would actually be an OPFLASH game and continued to brainwash the weak minded into thinking everything was fine (opflash heroes or something is what they are called)

Then we started finding out details like 8 players online , thats just a joke , i understand the limitations of consoles , but if you are not going to include an editor for gamers to use to make interesting missions for the low amount of players ... 8 players online is a insult to anyone spending 60 dollars on the game.

Then there was the addition of red barrels in the game , i think thats when everyone realised something went terribly terribly wrong.....
