It's pretty glowing report from Tim on this.

Some interesting stuff that I personally never knew about is the much slicker and more user friendly editor where weapon selection etc no longer requires lines of code. Just drag and drop!

Also populating towns can be done very quickly. Apparently he indicated that every town could be populated by civilians with one swift click of a button. It must be a sort of default God Mode populate world button so at least wherever you venture to civilians are to be found in towns or the countryside without having to add each one. Pretty nifty!

No negative reports at all and said view distance of 2.5km was as smooth as glass but 10 clicks got a little choppy (depends on set-up I am guessing)?

Wasn't really much we don't already know which was a wasted opportunity IMO but then I doubt Tim reads every snippet of info online.

It sucks, all these non-English previews are online and free, but the English ones are in magazines that we have to buy and may have little access to. :p

Hopefully someone will be so kind to scan it for us.

I'm going to my local magazine shop to see if they received it. When it was supposed to actually come out? BTW is this the one with the Starcraft II Cover?

Your point of view, granted and a fair point after all....

But how about this:

"If i were a BIS Decision maker and i would start at a point with Arma1 Engine from latest version, i would force all available resources into fixing ~9 year old and super annoying limitations of the engine.

I list you a few:

- Fix that you can shoot out of all positions you every want to, basically be able to draw-out a gun while sitting in a cargo position inside a M113/bradley/BMP/whatever. Complete freedom here!

- Fix that you can freely move in and on each available vehicle if there is enough space and if its not totally contradicting basic physics.

- Fix all animation issues which exists (there are countless )

- Making a super AI which appears to be "more" human-like like Arma1's

- Give more freedom for this Infantry Simulator, by letting soldier for instance hang-down from low building roofs, climb over larger walls with help of comrades and so on... its millions of gameplay things which could be fixed..

- Simulate all Weapons and Vehicles simple but accurate. This means simulation of basic things like: bit longer startup, radar, proper lock-on, Tank FCS (just a simple one with a keypress-lase-fire procedure), FLIR and other NV optics, Countermeasures, etc. etc. etc... Remain it simple for the average gamer, or make a fallback option for super-arcade mode

- Proper Artillery and Mortar gunnery...

- Improve all MP handling, addon handling, etc.

- Ask all bigger Mod-Teams what script-commands and manipulations of config/model/etc. they would need and implement them.

This all INSTEAD of Polishing the game from outside with nicer graphics and nicer models and whatnot."

You see, Arma2 is like if you take a very old and rusty car, with countless broken parts and defects, but instead of fixing them, you invest all time and money into the best polishing machine+polishing creme, the best paint-repairing you can get and polish this baby into such a high gloss no-one saw before... but still in its inner-parts its the same defect and broken-down car....

I'm not saying or bashing BIS for the way they went and i have some sort of understanding for this, but still the above would be the way i would have went - my opinion is "gameplay-improvements over false shininess"

Ohh and, i was writing the above purely from a technological/game-machanical standpoint. in no way i want to deny or criticize that Arma2 has a awesome atmosphere, super nice story plot, nice campaign, super nice factions to chose from and whatnot other cool things.

I guess A2 will definatly not be the game youre wishing for then, and id think within the next few years noone will make this ultimate game you described.

Optional would be to join the military :p

Offcourse i would like to see all these things too but maybe we should get a bit realistic here and for once see what we have and not endlessly what we dont have or better said assume that we dont have it.

While that's shitty, at the same time you can see some bikes in top of the LAV, so, now we can load small vehicles in other vehicles?

And I hope that you could chose ride on top or that those are the last available cargo position, because it would be very suicidal go straight to the top.

Can I ask that people please don't comment on the AI until we either get a Demo or a AI demonstration vid.

These gameplay vids don't gives away anything about how the AI will be in Arma2, still people say "fix this, fix that".

Enough with this now.

When youre in a metal casket that rolls over a mine, gets hit by a rpg or gets ambushed by a IED you would be quite happy to sit on top and maybe get injured a bit instead of getting burned inside.

Thats at least the reason why russians most of the time ride on top of their vehicles, at least when no direct danger has to be expected on the way.

You should search in youtube for Afghan vids. There are several vids where russians drive with BTRs over IEDs, on top of BTRs 3-10 soldiers. In one vid one guy came back out of the skye 5 seconds after explosion, alive, until he hit the ground. Nice flight. maybe sometimes it is better to burn.

Excellent. Someone noticed. Now this brings the question:

Will there no longer be just a magazine disappearing, but instead an actually animation in which the soldier takes out the magazine and replaces it with a new one? They already have the animations for it from the first Arma. Just not for the magazines.

No you can't.

A preview version has been sent to game reviewers to review... sorry I mean preview. They have (p)reviewed the preview version and made comments accordingly. Why can't we?

I'd have to say I agree with Mr.g-c.

So far I'm yet to see many new features in Arma2, that weren't in Arma1. Of course the graphics are great, but what can I do in Arma2 that I can't in Arma1, or OFP for that matter?

To pre-empt the "Go and play LoMac/let the mods build it" argument. The more features that come with the game, the better the modifications of said game will be.

I don't think adding the ability to shoot from vehicles, FLIR, FCS (which have all been modded in to Arma1) and a more realistic damage system are either beyond BIS's ample capabilities, nor too much to ask from the third instalment of OFP.

The less people expect of Arma2, the less they'll get.

In my opinion, to most peole single player won't even matter that much. All people will care about is Multiplayer. Single player sucks in arma1 unfortunately and it doesnt look/sound any different in Arma 2. Multiplayer is what makes people sit and play this game for hours though. So let's just stick with that. That way we won't really care about Ai or anything else. Personally I'm buying this game for multiplayer. I'm sad that single player *might not* be such an enjoyable experience if its like in arma 2, although the story sounds nice and the setting is a neighbor to my home country, but oh well.

Thats a silly thing to say because a huge part of multiplayer in OFP/ArmA includes AI

Well, speak for yourself Litos.

I loved single player in OFP, and I am hoping to love single player in ArmA2. Multiplayer is great in games, I have to admit, but the advantage of single player is you can jump in and have a quick game whenever you feel like it, without having to worry about finding freinds, connections, pings, looking for a good server and all the rest of it.

I think that maybe the rpg element is entirely new. Also the building destruction. They said something about having a new flight model for convertiplanes, so the osprey should handle differently than helicopters and aeroplanes. Oh, and the multiplayer coop campaign is also a new feature.

Atm, ArmA2 looks like ArmA1 with :

- correct and playable animations (<= THE MAIN ISSUE IS FIXED, cross fingers)

- good singleplayer campaign (aparently they spent a lot of time on it, this time)

- prettiness

- some lil additions (reload on the move, redone medic system & ability to carry wounded, AI using lean come to my mind)

Addition for Chops : What can you do in ArmA2 that you can't do in OFP? LOL?

Just 1 thing, most obvious for example : you can join a MP game that has already started. If this is not a huge step forward, I don't know what can be a step forward.

Questioning the features compared to ArmA1, probably. Comparing to OFP, big nono.

ArmA1 has been questioned because, while giving some new features (more units, more terrain, better MP handling like I depicted), it had gone away from what made OFP enjoyable (good SP campaign, playable animations).

It looks like ArmA2 is the combination of the best of both, hopefully.

What's wrong with it?

it's ofp. way too ofp (obviously the engine is not meant for pistols

kinda hard to explain, but it's same like it doesn't belong in there.
