jakerod 254 Posted August 30, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Blachawkdown was ruined for me, watch the bit where the 3 soldiers run past a burnt out vehicle, one falls over, watch the top of your screen, you will see a hollywood bus and some traffic go by. You do know that most, if not all of BHD was shot in North Africa right?

harley 3 1185 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Paths of Glory, one of 'ole Kubrick's best films. Gettysburg. The Thin Red Line. And the two mini-series "The Winds of War" & "War & Remembrance", good in themselves, but the two novels upon which they're based are the best books you will ever read about World War Two. DracoPaladore 0 Posted June 19, 2005 I purchased The Beast yesterday, the one about the tank crew lost in Afghanistan. I thought it was cool film. But I question the probability of the whole 'team up' with the main character.

swtx 42 Posted June 19, 2005 I just got through watching Saints and Soldiers. I must say for a Independant film it was very good. It's an account of four soldiers who escape the brutal Malmedy Massacre in December, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. It's now one of my favorite war movies. Find out more here The Red Badge of Courage The Story of a young Union Soldier who panics during is first engagement and runs. Very good movie, you don't see it discussed much in forums. Find out more here The Boys from Company C The real star of this film is GUNNARY SGT. R. LEE ERMY. This was his film debut, you'll prabably remember him as the drill Sgt. in FULL METAL JACKET. Find out more here Review of the movie can be found here If you get some time be sure to check them out, they are all worth watching. If you would like to recommend an under rated classic please feel free to leave your blog below Cheers
EiZei 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Just watched the beast of war, pretty good but quite unknown at least in Europe.
harley 3 1185 0 Posted June 19, 2005 The Thin Red Line's fairly under-rated in my opinion-everyone always erroneously compares it with Saving Private Ryan, which is a great mistake - SPR, whilst not having the greatest story IMHO, was very much driven by the action-what service Spielberg paid to the characters seemed to me to be very steretypical and heartstring-pulling. The Thin Red Line on the other hand is much more poetic, is far more character-driven and beautifully contrasts the horror of war with the beauty of where it is fought (filmed mostly in Gualdalcanal if I remember). Unlike Saving Private Ryan, where for the most part you could just sit back and watch (unlike Band of Brothers, a far better Enterprise), you have to listen to every word of the The Thin Red Line. Critics panned it, but it is a very good war movie-one of the few realistic ones which covers the Pacific Conflict. My DVD copy's not very good (No extras at all, not very good quality), but I'd recommend it anyway. Watch this film those who have not.
b_ringer25 0 Posted June 19, 2005 Saints and Soldiers. Its based on a true story of a group of guys who escape from the Malmedy Massacre. They find a downed RAF pilot and have to return valuable information from the pilots recon mission.
PainDealer 0 Posted June 19, 2005 well dunno about under-rated movies but I sure know many that are over-rated. one of them being saving private ryan.

Guest Ti0n3r Posted June 19, 2005 There are so many superb war movies. Its to hard to pick one. But I think Apocalypse Now is one of the best. But if Der Untergang counts as a war movie, then that it is the best one ever. (It's the best movie I've ever seen)
Gadger 0 Posted June 19, 2005 If "The Pianist" can count as a war movie its gotta be up there. Otherwise I would have to say its Zulu.
