Cloney 0 Posted April 23, 2003 @BAS All the guys and girls in the MIRC room I play OFP in love your addons and we all think your MH-47 is sweet. We especially love your Ranger/Delta pack and the Little Birds but anything you guys throw at us is great, if not better than the standard BIS packaged stuff. Everytime we see an addon with the "bas" label we know its quality and is worth staying on our harddrive. Infact, we use BAS addons almost exclusively in our MP Co-op adventures. Many thanks to Nagual for the awesome MP Missions.

Res\Addons, OFP\Addons? Does BAS_Cargo also go in here? This is a great addon, and I'm sure everyone's wrapped, but I'm also sure mission designer's must be having the same problems I am experiencing for multiplayer games. I will try moving all BAS addons to Res\Addons and see if theres some fix for the missing addon errors. <span id='postcolor'> Did you ever get this to show up in your game? I don't see that anyone's responded to your questions. I noticed the same flaw in the README file, too, and I suspect that some info is missing that would get this addon to work for me. I tried installing this new addon to my OFP Resistance 1.91, but it fails to appear under the "BAS Special Ops - Vehicles" menu. I've tried following the readme.txt file's instructions first: "INSTALLATION ============ There are 3 PBO files in the zip file. Installation files are different depending on which version of OFP you are running. **** 1.91+ **** Put the following in your addons folder: BAS_MH47E.pbo BAS_MH47E_185.pbo" No mention of the BAS_Cargo.pbo in the INSTALLATION section. Presumably that goes in the same folder as the two above files--but why is there even a file named "..._185.pbo", since the addon isn't compatible with OFP Resistance version 1.85? I tried leaving out the _185 file; still no show. Tried putting the two files they listed into the Res/Addons folder; still no show. I notice their zip file has paths associated with these files; I tried unzipping them with folder names, as the zip file is set up to do, first. No show. I tried moving them out of that folder into the actual "AddOns" folders, as described above, after trying them unzipped into the folder that the zip file specified. Does anyone here have any suggestions? I can't imagine why the darn thing isn't showing up. If it's a path prob, can anyone please explain where each file should be, and whether all 3 files should be there, or only 2 of them, and if so, which two? BTW, I popped into the BAS chat on their web page, but no one appeared to see my questions. I can't tell if anyone sees what I'm chatting or not--there was no indication that anyone knew I was there. I don't know what "voice" is, but it's apparent that I am not allowed to ask for it, whatever it is.
black__bird 0 Posted April 23, 2003 On behalf of the members of [sTO] StRiKe Tactical Operations, i would like to say thanks for all the hard work BAS does to put out such kick ass addons. we use all BAS's released addons(asside from the MH-47 currently but that hopefully will change soon) in our server. any of you BAS guys are always welcome on our servers. Lt_Damage 0 Posted April 23, 2003 @mooncaine I had that problem initially too, I was confused by the statement that the "There are 3 PBO files in the zip file. Installation files are different depending on which version of OFP you are running." I thought intially the 185 one was for 1.85 clients only so I left it out, couldn't see the MH47E. I put those two pbo files and the BAS_Cargo in OFP\Addons and I can see the MH47E in the same area the Kiowa's are. However I get missing addon statements so as Nagual described above you have to manually edit and then repack your mission PBO to get it to run on multiplayer. I redid 7 missions on the night this addon was released and I could only get 1 semi-working.
mooncaine 0 Posted April 23, 2003 Thanks for your reply, Lt_Damage. Definitely not working for me--I'm gonna get some sleep and try tomorrow. Maybe I'm missing something from being tired.

I *always* read the readme. And I certainly read the readme before posting a bug on a forum.<span id='postcolor'> Tantrums? I believe TJ was merely expressing his frustration. As for BIS dealing with it. You would be correct in your statement if it weren't for one thing. WE DON'T GET PAID!! THEY DO!! In fact....these addons COST US to make for you. In TJ's case...as he is self employed, he took several days off and therefore did not get paid.  In my case...bills for websites, phone calls, tools and software to make better addons...for every BAS member...time away from family/friends, girlfriends...wives plus tools and software to improve the quality of what they do. You may say that not working is TJ's choice and for every BAS member making those sacrifices is our choice....true....but here is the kicker...we make those choices for YOU...the community...we do it because we love to make addons....and we love for people to enjoy them. Unfortunately....as we are not employed to this.....it is very difficult for us swallow some of the comments thrown our way when so little appreciation is shown into the cost of making the addon to all the team. I know BIS deals with this...but their livelihood depends on it...we buy the game for them...and them improving it means more sales and loyal customers who will buy their next game For BAS...we could close it down tomorrow and everyone would be a lot happier with more time and less pressure added onto their already busy real life committments. I found your comment Lt. Damage particularly offensive. Everytime I hear this "BIS deals with it" argument my blood boils. Perhaps we should start selling these things....then you could throw shit at us and we'd smile the whole time. But  we DO NOT want to sell them...we also can't due to license agreements in O2. In fact......I think BAS is gonna start producing developer diaries....just so you all can appreciate just how much blood, sweat and tears go into these things. We do the best we can with the advanced knowledge and toolsets BIS have...and some cases we are doing it better (who ever thought an helo would rappel in OFP)....and still it's not enough. These addons are as perfect as we can make em....but as we are human...they are not perfect. And it is pushing the boundaries of what we can do with OFP. Let's all recognise that and back off a little.....some things dont work perfect in MP...OK....don't accuse us of being sloppy....recognise that with advanced capabilities like this comes advanced scripting and there may be problems. I've seen this happen time and time again with all kinds of addon makers. DKM's RAH-66....pushed the limits...and peeps shot it down. I think I've vented enough....bottom line....bugs are fine.....but exercise a little better judgement when posting and articulating them. Addon makers want to improve their projects....but not when people are being so negative.<span id='postcolor'> i even gave up a whole year of school last year just because i was busy with making addons and i just got oxygen back then. Frandsen and Eviscerator might remember that time
Sinister-tnuC- 0 Posted April 23, 2003 i found a bug, i STILL am a lousy heli pilot, hills, trees you name it i hit it. with all the miracles you have done BAS, pleeeease make me a better pilot had hours of fun already with this heli, LAWS from the ramp, fast rope... great stuff, much appreciated
-CCCP-Stalker 0 Posted April 23, 2003 I don't know if it was already reported (I don't have time to read the whole 8-9 page thread) but sometimes when MH-47 is in HOLD POSITION mode it's strafing. So for example ypu call for rope insertion and rope appears, units are sliding down the rope but the Chinnok already stafed 10-15 meter away from the rope. BTW I think the rope shoul appear where the hook is.
Guest jacobaby Posted April 23, 2003 Sorry about the missing info in the readme, probably the problem was that we each wrote seperate bits and it was very late in the evening when it all went together, Nagual didnt even go to bed that night..........we just get very excited ourselves at release time and when you have been using the various bits and pieces for several weeks you tend to forget that they are new to others. Next time we resolve to give the whole package a good final test before release, it will delay the release a bit longer, but may be better. All of the features except the engine startup sound and the Anti-Shilka should work properly in MP, we tested them extensively, but as usual it will depend on the quality of your connection. That is why the option to limit some of them to local helicopters only was included. Btw, you can have TOP fun dropping 5T trucks on your target of choice and trying to eliminate the enemy with your unorthodox "bombs", Hust sling e truck under, and time your run to break the sling in the right place to exact a good effect!! What do people think of the look of the flares btw? I based them on pix I found? TJ

Guest jacobaby Posted April 23, 2003 In preparation for the chopper we consulted with several expert sources. Here is one of the replies I got. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">TJ, The Chinooks in RAF service operated with 2 crewmen, the No1 being down the back and the No2 up front. From the HC2/"D" model onwards, a significant number of system monitors - mainly hydraulics - are relocated from the cockpit to the rear right-hand-side of the cabin, where the No1 crewmen can keep an eye on them when he's not doing anything else. He is the only person on the a/c who can operate the ramp and tongue, using controls on the same side (RHS) as the hyd gauges. Although several systems on the Chinook are operated by so-called "squat switches" (ie undercarriage-strain-gauge-operated switches sensing when the mass of the aircraft is resting via the u/c on the ground), the ramp is not one of these. For most operations the a/c was flown with the ramp up and the tongue retracted (ie out of the way) so that the No1 crewman could carry out his task of lookout from the 3 o'clock through the 6 to the 9 o'clock - his most important task. The a/c can be flown with the ramp down, but the extra strain this imposes on the a/c is considerable (only 2 attachment points as opposed to 4 when the ramp is up and locked, and the extra stress of a large surface area exposed directly to the slipstream) so the practice was strongly discouraged except where operationally essential. In practice, during the Gulf War on SF ops we started off with just the M60s front-left and -right (when dropping off the B Sqn patrols, each a/c carried a short-WB LandRover which meant that no ramp-mounted MG was practical). After the first inserts, we fitted the M134 which arrived after the start of the conflict and also removed all side windows to allow Regiment HQ staff and the members of B30 - who wisely (and bravely...) elected not to continue with their patrol when they saw the nature of the ground they were supposed to work - could man GPMGs. We used to carry 7 on tasks like resupply or searches for B20, and with 120kts of air at minus 3 deg C blasting through the cabin, they used to man their positions wearing all spare unit clothing and swaddled in sleeping bags. They were so cold on landing that we used to have to get our groundcrew to help us carry them off the a/c until they'd thawed out. Right - enough war stories. Best of luck with the 47E - I really like the BIS Chinook even though it is flown single-pilot (the real a/c MUST have a LHS occupant to operate the steerable rear wheel when on the ground) but look forward to seeing what amazing things you people can do with its bigger, younger sibling. I've been having a whale of a time with the Nagaul (sp?) missions and the Avon-Lady conversion, but I really ought to get that next Tutor-marked-assessment into the post.... Cheers, Pete <span id='postcolor'> I think that answers the ramp question. We did try and get the extra co-pilot in there, but decided he would look kind of dopey sat there doing nothing. "Tantrum TJ" Good one Lt Damage! I think the brassed off feeling was half the numbwits, half the exhaustion of the last week prior to release, and half the anti-climax feeling that comes after anything long hoped for. After a good nights sleep i'm rearing to go.......where's that lovely new MH60 then......... T TJ

Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted April 23, 2003 LOL, I like it when ur getting burned when approaching a burning chopper! I also like the effects of exploding ammo What I don't like is the apparent ineffectiveness of the minigun I made 3 passes over an enemy soldier with AI door gunner, and he was still alive, the dot was right in the middle of the target box Maybe I was flying too fast for him to aim properly I LOVE the countermeasures, make surviving so much easier This thing has so many features, I could go on and on and on and on One funny occurrece - I was fast roping over not-so-even ground, and the 3rd guy out gut stuck right at the door, so all the others either got stuck up there with him, or fell off and died Looked quite funny Top job, BAS, can't wait for your next toy
Jinef 2 Posted April 23, 2003 Okay, did you guys add the little glow colours in the empty - objects part of the editor? As for the doorgunner, yeah you probably were just flying too fast or not flying in a circle over the target perhaps? On one mission I flew some airsupport for the ground troops and my door gunner killed about 7 enemy soldiers with the minigun as I flew in a circle above Petrovice. It was very impressive! Plus it sounds soooo cool when it's fired. The AI also does a better job of airsupport then the BIS made Chinnook I think possibly because this one doesn't fly so fast. The only thing I don't like is the speed limitation while carrying slung vehicles. I know it's realistic, but it takes AGES to get anywhere on the map and is very very difficult to maintain that speed. But oh well. It's still cool and I can always use regular sling scripts if I want to go faster so no biggie. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
