-RIP- Luhgnut 10 Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) Apparently from looking at posts from people "Really in the know" over -> there, is that there officially will not be a demo. Seriously though, if you are really expecting an "Operation Flashpoint" game, this isn't it. Seriously. It's like they went out of their way NOT to make it anything like the Original. That's what's confusing to so many people, and why so many people are so dis-enfranchised with it. They had all this hype, and interviews, yadda-yadda all the way up until launch, where they say "all the things that made the original great, and people liked, we included." That was said many times even up until literally 2 weeks of launch. I posted a youtube of S.L. literally saying that on national TV two weeks prior. He said many many times, "It's totally open, and it's all about choice", "people wanted to free roam like the original, so that's what our focus was." Literally 2 weeks prior to launch he was saying that. We've included an editor (didn't say anything about it only being on PC). "All vehicles are drivable, you can commandeer anything you see." No delineation between PC and consoles. "The largest battlefield ever and it's unique". Excuse me, but the Delta Force Games as well as the Joint Ops games from Novalogic were massive in scale and you really could free roam, and that's been five years ago. Maybe their "island" is bigger, but you can't use it. S.L. said "Every inch is at your disposal." Two weeks before launch! I mean the game has gone "gold" at that point, and he's still thinking and saying that? Oh BTW, I've "roamed" the island with the editor, if you have it take a little stroll. You'll see unfinished models populating the island. I ran across one place with these big massive wooden towers with nothing on them, just a whole line of these "towers" just doing nothing. There's no wires, no guard tower, nothing. Then you'll run across what was supposed to be a town or something, it's just a single building out in the middle of nowhere. Also, if this island is supposed to be full of Oil, there's no Oil rigs, there's nothing out there. It's like when you fly into the upper north of Chern. Just a vast nothingness except for the same tree model, and 1 or2 variations of rocks. Also, they state that it will take 9.5 hours to walk from one side of the island to another. Well, I tested this.... I ran across one Grid Reference and timed it. Eight minutes. There are 30 grid references. So 8*30/60 = 3 hours. Give or take to navigate valley's and hills. Now, I was running of course, because walking in that game is like watching grandma navigate a flight of stairs, blindfolded. So I guess if you "walked it" it would be 9 hours. But running is more like walking in other games. I mean come on, Arma2 has 32 player dedicated servers. Novalogic can host up to 150 players. Theres? FOUR. Four players (console) 16 players PC. Now how cutting edge is that? So of course when people are hearing time and time again, about the similarities between the original OFP for months if not years and then being spoon fed graphics, people put it together in their heads, "OFP free roaming with cutting edge graphics and so much attention to detail." Only to have indestructible trees, bad damage models, no dedicated server, bad physics, bad AI, left wide open for being hacked on a server, horrible lag, limited multi-player if you even find a server playable. Basically getting NOTHING like the original game that they have been pitching for years. And the only redeeming factor? It runs well on all types of systems. That's it? That's their claim to fame? It runs well. Well excuse my excitement. Edited November 5, 2009 by [RIP] Luhgnut
Master gamawa 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising = Family Guy Arma 2 = Southpark I wanted a car analogy to be honest but this works too.
Hitman 10 Posted November 5, 2009 It's funny how in the DLC trailer they just put "take over the skies" and "intense firefights" since they had nothing more to offer. Do you download the firefights or are the 4 (gasp) new multiplayer maps so small it becomes more intense? Or what? What am I missing here? I can picture the next DLC trailer for PC: Mouse support! vilas 477 Posted November 5, 2009 (edited) I wanted a car analogy to be honest but this works too. top modern design, faster than a lightning, comfortable, powerful and easy taking even dirtiest roads, with big space to move along with all luggage, in many colors, with newest hi-fi systems and reliable for years ___ i was trying to type something at their "official channel" on YT, impossible, message deleted in seconds if words "BIS" or "Arma2" appear or other Edited November 5, 2009 by vilas
MehMan 0 Posted November 5, 2009 It seems that their only chance of selling their mediocre shooter under the pretense of realism is for the buyer to be ignorant of other options and believing that this truly is the succesor and is "realistic".

SwiftyBoy 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Hell, reading all that stuff over there, it does just make you mightily grateful for what you get with ArmaII - by which I mean, total modability, great mission editor, tip top Quick Battle Generator (set up a random battle in under a minute - legend!), SecOps, ambient combat module, playable fixed wing, a great and hugely talented modding community... I could go on for a week extolling the virtues of this game over Dragon Rising. I won't though, so don't worry. Suffice to say I'm very glad I hitched my horse to BIS' wagon. NoRailgunner 0 Posted November 5, 2009 Some big gamemags are still rating DR with more than 70% - despite the public votes are close to 50% or lower. Funny how editors are protecting the game/publisher and their hype on the "real successor of OFP". Would be nice to see how much money CM burnt ..errm spend for the DR marketing/advertising. Guess that creating a hype including ads in cinema arent that cheap - even if you have good contacts and contracts. Sertorius21 - dont underestimate whatever drove behind the Iron Curtain! :D
Sniperwolf572 758 Posted November 5, 2009 Just borrowed a copy and tried out a few missions. "Team this is HQ, bla bla bla. How copy? Over." "HQ this is team. Solid copy. Ok. How copy? Over." "Team this is HQ. Solid copy. Ok on Ok. Over" A2 SecOps module generates more interesting missions IMO.

privatenoob 0 Posted November 5, 2009 This is my worst PC game purchase ever. I was kind of exited before all the infamous movies and screens started flowing around before release but still was curious about the game. Well its crap! Talk about being burned. Im so glad I bought Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 yesterday so I can bury my grief in bying the most mistakenly overhyped game ever. Well I wouldnt call it dead, its still on place 58 on Xfire. I'll never understand people who think DR is a better looking game than Arma2, to me it's just funky lighting on a repeat island. Vanilla Arma2 is a far better looking game imo, but damn, throw some SLX/JTD/Warfx into the mix- my jaw just drops even in missions I've alreay played before.
