Master gamawa 0 Posted October 7, 2009 I am going to keep it simple. Anything. Anything at all. If you have an island on the works, finish it an upload it! I am not a great fan of big cities, since the AI doesn't behave well enough in narrow alleys etc but I wouldn't complain! One of my gripes is the quality. I like Panthera too since it's all diverse and rich but most of the textures look wrong and I can't enjoy it as much as other maps, which is a shame. Anything really. Snow, mountains, desert... I'll play the shit out of them.
icebreakr 3157 Posted October 7, 2009 Master gamawa: send me PM with couple of screenshots (links), I've updated the sat texture in v2.3 but with you help I can maybe polish it a bit more?
Master gamawa 0 Posted October 7, 2009 Yeah, ok I'll do that when I get home but you probably know the problems already mate! The gravel texture on the shores of lakes looks psychedelic, the green ground texture from afar (when not covered in grass of bushes) looks... well... "painted" on? It seems that the satmask or whatever you call those, is too bright or too saturated and it ... radiates like it's out of this world. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the effort - to be honest I tried getting into map making myself and lost it when I was reading about file structure on P: drive and it was too much for my brain - so I gave up. But I love good maps and I will offer whatever I can. Even if it's just critisism! :)

Aelin 10 Posted October 7, 2009 icebreakr, please give a look to the grozny battle on youtube(I cant post the link cos it contains crude scenes),you will discover what it means a real city fight with dense urban zones, huge plazas, bridges, big roads,ecc....I bet you will agree with me after.... obviously this is just a suggestion, you are the master! spirit6 51 Posted October 7, 2009 Why does a winter map needs to be made from scratch? Aren't there places that will have nice deep snow in the winter but look normal in summer? Would be great to have a super island in two versions. So you could please more people and don't leave that much out. But I still have to get started with terrain modding, so I'm not sure if this is that easy to do. Its indeed not that hard to simple make a winter texture for the map. Infact if that would be the job anybody with L3DT tool would be able to reskin a map in 2,5 hour. The job is: you need frozen clutter, roads, plants, trees, houses etc etc. If somebody is willing to deliver me that, i can produce any map in winter texture. I aint unique in that or specialy talented, any mapmaker with a generating texture tool will be able to do that then.
Electricleash 133 Posted October 7, 2009 I am working in this area, atleast i think so. Currently making a small 5 x 5 km island based on terrain like the scottish highlands. Still have a lot of work in that area so dont hold your breath here. For me its a fun project. This weekend few people tested my terrain for lod issues etc. One of them made a youtube. Shows a bit of the terrain. yeah yeah horrible music :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_cvvBQGdPo Yep! terrible! sounds like walking down Edinburgh princes street/Royal mile with the 'tartan tat' shops blasting it turned up to 11! I've endured it for the last 8 years.... it's hell. But the map is nice so far. Castle is a bit too extensive... less is more and don't forget the Peat Hags as that's all there is for cover on the likes of Rannoch Moor !

sgt_savage 586 Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) Well I'm kinda biased but its the jungle for me http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/2339/94964584sj9.jpg Edited October 10, 2009 by SGT_SAVAGE
joske 10 Posted October 10, 2009 what i would like to see, is not traditional jungle,woodland,desert...maps(not that they arent fun to play on) but islands which are build with creativity and do something that nobody else has done before. for example instead of normal jungle island which has some rollin hills covered in tropical trees, make an island with high cliffs lookin out to sea, a jungle build up out of gigantic ancient trees, deep chasms, a vulcano in the center of the island...etc (a bit like skull island of the king kong movies). or for example instead of making a normal city make a city completely made up with some crazy style like art nouveau or art deco (as an example think of the city from bioshock which is art deco). off course these kind of projects would take much longer to make because of all the extra work involved (shaping weird geographical formations, creating new kinds of models..etc) and i also dont think that the ai would handle all the stuff you need to build such islands well. ballistic09 241 Posted October 11, 2009 I think it's funny that most of the people voted for "Mountains, rivers, lakes, and forests" even though most of the maps that are out right now are already that type of map... Personally, I would love to see a somewhat "built-up residential area." When I say somewhat, I mean not a huge city or medium city with big buildings and apartments like chernarus, but more along the lines of a residential area like the suburbs. The only map that comes close to a "suburb" style map that I can think of is avgani, but even then thats not really even a suburb, it's more of a small city... Besides that, ArmA II doesn't have any snow or desert maps yet, it would be nice to see both of those. Another cool map idea would be to make a similar map to the Indiana Farmland map just a little bigger... and with buildings that look like they belong in the rural U.S., not ones that look like they belong in eastern Europe...

Apocca 10 Posted October 12, 2009 I'd love a island with some good big beaches, suitable for some massive D-Day action. Anyone know of one already out?
This is Bosnia 10 Posted October 13, 2009 pozdrav IceBreakr i would like to see something like -big city -may be in winter -surrounded by hills and forests where u can fire from the hills into the city -aftermath like war 2175 x 1500 2005 x 1266
icebreakr 3157 Posted October 13, 2009 Great idea, but I'm currently unable to take on another big project like that. I'm fully busy to get Panthera v2.3 released (major upgrade!) and to continue work on fictional Isla Duala (tropical islands, africa-style / rocky deserts). 9thAircav 0 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) how about this island lol. After all it is real. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.980651,177.518463&spn=0.28801,0.959244&t=h&z=11 actually im not sure if this island would be a touchy subject or not. but here goes anyway. would this piss anyone off to see it in arma2 ? http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m189/alifish_idt/ofpva2scenery.jpg Edited October 13, 2009 by 9thAircav

Rovka 14 Posted October 13, 2009 IceBreakr, Is Isla Duala still a borderzone even though african themed? Advanced thank you for your reply! Keep up the good work!!
icebreakr 3157 Posted October 13, 2009 If you mean split by two countries (well due to size actually towns, heh) then yes. Each country (North vs South) has 5-7 towns/villages (1 major each side) and lush vegetation can be found on East side where there were no woodcutting and earth erosion. There are two paved airports (able to operate C130s/jets) and a border fence and checkpoints are preset. Everything else will be in hands of a mission creator. He can "unite" countries and perform peace keeping duties out of FOBs or you can set a warfare where there can actually be border patrols and two commanders that issue "no hostilities" for like 30minutes and provocations are made on both sides ;) it will be fun and I'll try to make it realistic and not too much "AAS" oriented... Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted October 14, 2009 Deserts for better frame-rates and larger-scale battles. Alien worlds to experience this graphics engine in new and interesting ways. Snow, just because they're cool and provide a lot of atmosphere. A large American neighborhood, complete with fast-food joints and supermarkets, so that I can finally make some cool Red Dawn missions.
