Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

Recommended Posts

Seemed to me that England did better with 10 men than 11, Portugal just seemed unable to smother them.

England had quite a few decent attempts, often in or near the Portuguese 6-yard box and it's a shame that England didn't bury one in the corner of the net.

Both sides lacked motivation, but I feel that after Rooney went off England upped the tempo and could have finished Portugal off.

I still can't believe how crap England are at penalties and I hate that they always go out after them.

..that crying über-model Beckham and stupid Rooney are guilty for losing match and bad playing... and of course famouse penalty kicks by England now and in history... nener.gif

What's wrong with you?

The only guilt I see is the fact that England couldn't deliver what it had work out. It had many well developed scoring opportunities.

BTW, I'd like to remind you the same situation when Ronaldo cried when he was injured during last game.

Yeah, Rooney being sent off was a good thing. They had an easy time controling him, where as Crouch gave them some problems, and was at least able to keep the ball in his possession.

Everyone loves acting, I watch a movie if I want to see acting, others watch football goodnight.gif

Europeans hate the British its a known fact, Portugal played as they always do, "dirty",but thats what you get.

We may of lost, but we have kept our standards of play and dignity right to the end.

Well done lads, and lets hope Portugal get a taste of their own medican by our other famous counterparts.

What striked me most in this match was that Scolari didn't budge an inch to change his 4-5-1 tactic when Wayne "The Balls Crusher" Rooney went out, so they 'dance' with all that army of midfielders around the england's defense like a cat around the hot meal. In Extra Time he moved Ronaldo(???) infront and that was it. Weird to say at least.

And it seems that acting and provoking is a cohesive part of portugal's tactic. crazy_o.gif

i just love to watch u guys and your terrible sportism. i know that portugal didnt played like they know/can, but like i told deco is a key player and he was off today. he's the brain on the midfield, +figo. about the dirty atitude u guys acused us...no coments. we made a clean game without any violence.

cant believe that u argument that rooney shoudlnt get a red card! he intencionaly steped carvalho on the balls!!! isnt that a dam agression?? if not what is an agression?

england was,is and will always be a good team. but sometimes there's others good teams that want to grab their chance.

did i already mentioned that portugal beats england in official matches in the last 40years???!! confused_o.gif

now i want our brothers from brasil. THAT would be just awsome. at least if we lost against them, we'll lose to a decent team (with fair play, and that doesnt invent fake interviews of portuguese players).

FORÇA PORTUGAL!!

I wouldn't talk to big about portugal and fair play after their match vs holland. I only watched the second half, but what I saw wasn't close to fair play from either teams...

I think as a nation, Britain certainly has the right to "kiss us ass" as you so bluntly put it.

You may not like America, but its tough shit, American's will be our only true allie that we can rely on, when it comes to action(and a few others of course).

Im not one to go off topic but i just wanted to defend that post as im rather reluctant to be ruled by Brussels.

I think experience makes them adapt to the oponents tactic, in Hollands case.. Kick them stronger and beat them harder!

The rules of the forum still apply, despite the football heartbreak.

Stay on topic, and don't post like a Sun/Bild author.

Unless you are including self-loathing, I doubt that stands. Last time I checked Britain is in Europe.

Ah, yes, it was an Argie-EU conspiracy to make Lampard, Gerrard and Carragher miss. It makes perfect sense. The match was played in Germany and the ref was Argentinian. Not to mention that Svennis Eriksson is not English, but yet another EU hack. Do you really think it is a coincidence that England can't seem to win against us Swedes?

There are a few reasons why seeing England lose can be amusing (broad generalization):

1) You take football way too seriously and severely overestimate the quality of your team each time

2) The tabloid mentality mixed with the most primitive forms of nationalism

3) The misbehaving supporters (far worse than any other country)

Having said that, I was rooting for England for most of this match as Portugal played IMO boring football (although not dirty, as you imply).

Unlucky to go out. Players played their hearts out when we went a man down and can't fault them for that.

England MOM is deffo Hargreaves. Went forward more then Gerrard and Lampard cus they cudn't be arsed to. Hargreaves is like a steam engine, non stop.

Hopefully Rooney knocks Ronaldos head off back at the Utd training ground. Anyone see that little gay wink he did to the bench? fucking portugese ****. The ref, you could see, was gonna just give a free kick and that it. He was waiting for the portugese player to stand up. Ronaldo came in and Rooney pushed him then the ref goes crazy and brandishes a red card. Why would of Ronaldo winked aswell??

We should of also had a penno when Lennon got into area, he also played dead good aswell.

i'm now watching live in tv,the few portuguese fans around the stadium runing away in panic, with british hooligans scums trowing rocks on their heads. blood is being spilt just because they couldnt resist to cause caos in every stadium they step...before u say "just because some jerks do that, it doesnt mean english suporters are all the same!". its true, but why this always happen with the same fans!!? i also know germany, dutch and poland suporters like to cause caos sometimes, but england fans are always on the top of the black list...

on the other hand, its sad that some of u guys have a natural tendency to mix soccer with politics, history, wars, etc. we'r talking about wc here, so if u cant keep the conversation on the topic, plz go post somewhere else! glad admins werent sleeping or this thread would be spoiled.

so before u think i hate england or any other nation, i gota say that i have duzens of uk great friends, usa, spain, brasil(sister in law is brasilian). the only plp i hate is terrorists, and my neighbourg...

now i'm gona watch brasil-france and wait for the result.

so...plz stay on topic!

ermm yea right maybe the late 80's early 90's but that is no longer the case, poland and the estern bloc countries are more of a problem these days but then again you being a European i guess you just can't shake that stereotype of England fans being hooligans.

The Lennon thing definitely wasn't a penalty, they got the ball cleanly.

I'm not sure on Rooney getting sent of, couldn't really tell how much intent there was with regards to stepping on the chaps nads. Ronaldo was acting like a complete tosser though. In the end, the whole Rooney thing wasn't a deciding factor in my eyes, he held the ball well for Lampard, Gerrard and on occasion the Coles, to come in down the wings, but Crouchy did it slightly better.

Our performance wasn't the best, but it was spirited and our defense didn't bugger up as much as they have done previously. I think we deserved to win because of our attitude; some of Portugese side has cast a poor light over the rest of the team in at least the past 2 games, something that I think is a shame considering the talent of many of those players.

Unfortunately it was decided on penalties, which don't favour any side, regardless of how much they want or deserve to win a game. IMO it came down to who had a better keeper.

Glad we went down fighting after some pretty poor performances though. I figured that if there was one game we deserved to win during this tournament, that was it; but looking back on the whole thing we probably didn't deserve to reach this stage.

Me not European? I'm Swedish.

And yes, the English suporters have become better, but judging from the arrest statistics they are still by far the worst.

Is being passionate and patriotic something to ridicule someone with? England's national sport is Football and we invented the bloody thing so I think we have a right to hope that one year our team can actually be successful.

As for hooliganism, I think that it's for the most part been eradicated

Got a link where the statistics are published, out of interest? I've been looking for them myself

Oh and stainer, FIFA recognises China as the birthplace of football. There are records of it there before there are any in the UK.

When it is over the top, yes.

Of course, but there is a great discrepancy between what you expect from your team and what they actually manage to accomplish. And it's that way every world or European cup.

No, not really, mostly anecdotal evidence from the news (primarily bbc rss feed). There are a couple of articles on the subject though. Do a search on google news for "hooliganism" and you'll find plenty of articles like this one:

http://www.yorkshiretoday.co.uk/ViewArt....1588263 that discusses the return of English hooliganism.
