OK but it looked similar... In any case BIS should make the area it covers a LOT bigger. It's just really awesome.

Yup, has always been there. :) Oh and in fact, it's not sugarcane but a special kind of "grass" growing in greece. I can't remember the exact name now though it's definitely not sugarcane.

i think it is called "phragmites australis" that is the scientific name or simply at greek language "kalamies"

totally agree! i'd like a lot more of these areas scattered around the island. it looks really good at any time of day and makes for some awesome cat and mouse play against players and AI. been looking forward to it since the first screens i saw.

DEV: 55.104.711

Underwater showcase: Looks weird with pink fog near surface and a bit too dark overall.

Infantry: When picking up a rifle why switch to pistol when I have the rifle in my hand already???

Infantry: Please fix the 'Aiming Deadzone'. (I miss it so much)

(PS. Great job improving fps)

speaking of Greece and lighting, does the sun really rise at like 4am in July there?

I was wondering the same thing... I mean I been up early here in the states on the east coast and at 5:00 am in summer, you can see the sky brightening up to get ready for sunrise, but in Arma 3 I can set the time to like 3:00 am and it's practically full lit lol. Have to wonder about the legitimacy of that.

5.30 or 6 am is more accurate and real !!

Well from our knowledge and location yes it is more realistic, but maybe in Greece the sun does rise at 4:30 am.... ah who am I kidding, tweak this BI :P

yeah, looking at a chart, sunrise is around 6am that time of year there. I understand it gets light before that, but more than an hour before that seems off

Sunrise should be around 6am the sky should start to light up around 5:15

time of sunrise and sunset depends on Log, Lat (geographical position of the terrain) and day in year ...

The new dedicated server seem to run missions very nicely. Before my dynamic mission was stuttering badly even when testing alone in MP mode. Now it seems to run smooth as butter. Looking very good. :)

edit: this is ingame at 4:15am (the default date, july 8th?)

Dwarden, I love the new lighting, 22:00 hrs looks stunning, sadly tracers are near invisible both night and day. Will tracers get the lighting treatment too and be made a light source?

Not possible until Someone decides to write the engine to support deferred lighting.

A1 had tracer mods that iluminated the ambient, dunno why it was never made for A2.

Tracer in the Dev Branch must go under the new lighting regime as they are working pretty well in the Stable branch.

Excellent post. Think the devs need to really adhere to this time of day settings as really sun up at 4:00 am is just totally unrealistic. This is something that I truly hope to see implemented and corrected.

+1 for that, it looks great in arma2 with bd_tracerlights.

Um, you "Sun rises at 6am in Greece in July" people aren't forgetting daylight savings/summer time, are you?

Wolframalpha shows a sunrise of 5:52am EEST on the summer solstice this year. So, "normal time" (and I'm guessing BIS haven't modelled winding the watch forward for summer time) puts sunrise at 4:52am. Followed by a 15-hour day.

Either way sun is up in the sky casting hard shadows at 4:05 am. That's a problem.

And don't forget Lemnos is 250km (150 miles) North East of Athens, so the sun's up there 12 minutes before it is in the capital.

FWIW, I don't disagree that the sun's up too early. daze23's screenshot is an obvious example. I just wanted to correct the notions that the sun should rise at 6am (mentioned by several in the thread) in the middle of summer, and that Greece is a single tiny place which sees sunrise all at the same time.

Edit - ninja'd twice while trying to edit posts with my phone.

I did. that's why I posted the pic of the sun clearly above the horizon at 4:15am
