CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."

Recommended Posts

So those clowns at CM are going to try and dupe the public again?

Good luck with that

On a side note, is it some kind of Whitewater Rafting Sim with weapons?

Stupid name for what will undoubtedly be another pathetic game.

All aboard the fail train (again).

Does anyone else see the problem here? =P

Indeed hense the sarcasm

RR if better will still not equal anything near arma quality but it will probably be better than the repetitive shiiite that is Call of Duty which is what CM aspires. FPDR

Any competition would be good, frankly.

Yuppers. Keep interest in the PC genre alive, inform more people about Arma series and possibly drive BI to "show them up" on any new features.

Competition? Haven't you guys heard it yet?

We understand your concerns about no PVP and how it can impact replayability. What I can say is that we are seriously expanding on the co-op experience to compensate.

Competition my ass. :D

A quick free translation:

Operation Flashpoint 3 - Codemaster is working on the sequel of Dragon Rising

War goes on in Operation Flashpoint 3

British publisher CM is working on a new part of the military simulation Operation Flashpoint. The game, which still doesn't have an official name, is the third part of the series.

Codemaster's chief Jamie MacDonald confirmed that OFP3 is being produced in the british studio Guildford. The antecessor Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, which was released in October 2009, also was produced here.

McDonald did not give further details, only that a completely new version of the Ego engine will be used. The graphic engine, programmed by Codemasters itself, is in constant developement.

Nice....

Let the shitstorm begin

CM's logic "We dont want to spend a 500k or more in dedicated servers, so instead we will just get rid of PVP entirely and just "Seriously expand" Cooperative mode by making it 8 players instead of 4, same limitations though K thx (give me your money) Bye!

That's...uhm, wow. I didn't expect that.

"Hey, you know that feature that quite a few people enjoyed and didn't cost us a lot because of P2P? Let's cut it, so we can have more focussed co op. IT MAKES SENSE DAMNIT."

I went and had a run around in the DR demo again, cant help but wonder what type of game it would have been if CM and BIS had stuck it out... i dont know the full history but DR definitely had the eye candy apart from from the horrible feel of movement with weapon and colour choice.

Shame games are made based on $

CM publicity:

one man wrote :

Operation Flashpoint Elite(made by Bohemia published by CM) on the original Xbox had a mission editor For F**k Sake

CM fanboy answered :

never used it but i very much doubt it was anything like the current editor for flashpoint

... no comment :/

looking at another hype there, seems to me like positive voices are "marketing" bots :] it would be impossible that people can be so blind

shame is that newspapers do not inform about Arma, shame, they payed/bribe or what ? in many newspapers/website Arma not exist and only fans are informing

Helios: We'll do Q&A's, but not for a little while. For Dragon Rising we talked about features we wanted to make it into the final game that in the end didn't make it. This time, anything we say can be guaranteed to be in the game.

Now there's a quote worth hanging onto. I wonder whether he will be eating his words when the game is finally released.

i have little doubt in my mind that RR will be better in some form or fashion than FPDR

it would be hard to actually make the game worse (they would actively have to try to). they will get some improved features, and though the end product still wont (probably) compare to arma, they CM people will claim victory.

i wonder how long that game has been in development? if its going to be released next year some time, i guess id say ~2 years?

think they can do it? redo all ingame content plus rewrite the game engine in 2 years? and make it all they claim it to be?

course they have a huge ass team. if i remember correctly FPDR had more people on its art team (70+) than BIS had employees...

Well lets get some drinks, lean back and watch the show!

Should we give points for claims, slogans, presentation and entertainment of CM devs/producers/publishers interviews?

Again, it's not OFP3. Why don't you people understand that? OFP3 does not exist, and in name neither does OFP2.

@Maruk, Lol that is quote worthy!

Weirdly, isn't Red River just gonna be great publicity for the ARMA series? I'm sure after Dragon Rising bombed people turned to Arma2 when FPDR wasn't what they wanted, so unless CM by some miracle produce a much better game i reckon that could happen again.

Red River just leaves a slightly childish grin on my face... what a silly name!

name!

no

cause those who are hoping for DR2, are people who are not interested in old OFP/Arma, if they were...

or maybe those hype voices on their forums are CM marketing workers ???

cause with their ban politics, probably there is not too much real voices, especially looking at attitude that they have against/towards Arma (community)

if someone there still hopes for "not be cheated again" he is naive

those naive won't come to the Arma

they will moan week and back to CoD 8.5 or say "yes, it is great, Arma shit, haven't played, but i'm sure, thanx our bosses"

also they act like aiming in consoles, so they not even know all bonus we have on PC (addons, missions, mission editor...)

I am hoping for DR2.

I enjoyed DR 1.

It was broadly what I was expecting it to be, and in some instances outwieghed my expectations. (Driving the tank).

As console ports go for example, it rates to Operation Flashpoint equally as well as Rainbow Six Vegas compares to Rainbow Six.

I get a lot more mileage out of BIS games. A lot more replayability. A lot more depth.

But not all my friends are willing to play ArmA with me and some of those who weren't were willing to play DR.

Ultimately, it's a console game and that's my only real complaint with it.

You mean aside from the horrible DLC and support?

I didn't have any trouble with it, so support is a bit of a non issue.

Would you have trouble with dropping support in case BIS adoptet the same business model?

I don't mind CM doing it because I never purchased DR but In case I would have done it, I would be rather p+++ed.

For me it has something to do with the principal of supporting a game that I release. I still believe in busines ethics which has become an optional in todays modern game companies.

Therefore BIS get's my full support.:D

Just my 2 cents

kind regards

I'm a bit split on that one.

BIS stuff has been known to need a lot of support if you know what I mean. If had of bought ArmA 2 on day one and had to have waited a few months to play the campaign I would have been quite shirty about it. But I knew what to expect and held back, just as I did with ArmA.

I bought the expansion first day and that hasn't needed any support in my opinion.

But I was nervous. Lol.

Flashpoint was pretty good. They just added a load of stuff. That was all a nice bonus.

But CM stuff, I know it isn't going to get any support when I buy it. So it's my choice and I don't feel let down in anyway.

It's a console port, I don't expect much to start with and I'm pretty sure it's going to work right out the box. They all do.

Likewise with BIS stuff, I've bought all their games for god knows how long now. I know how they do business before I buy.

Truthfully however, if it was a question of ethics. I'd like it to work right from day one. The whole patch culture is something I am quite irritated by.
