    They're all worth playing for the campaigns/ missions but the interest/quality of each varies. There's loads of mods for each so it's worth having them just to explore, even if A3 is what everyone plays now.

  8. It's about emotional intelligence. The fact you're arguing over this suggests you're letting your emotions lead you, and no doubt my post will further add to that if you let them. You don't have the addon now so not having it in future isn't a loss. It is a shame that lots of extremely well crafted addons here seem to get to 90-95% complete then never released, but that's just the nature of modding as a hobby. These are individuals' pet projects, who undoubtedly have high standards in mind, or have unexpected complications roadblock that final push to release. The majority of the community doesn't see how complicated those problems can be, they only see the wireframe and textures and think, why can't I drive/fly/use the addon yet? That's not even to go into real life disrupting your hobby, which @warlord554 has already made people fully aware of. We/ I care more about the individual making the addon than the addon itself, which is why you won't see many of the people who've been on here a long time complaining about expectations.

    I suspect it was to point out to people just how much of the DLC was *not* aliens to counter all the people being negative about the theme, but it's certainly a much better promotion that previous DLCs!
  10. The Armaverse is an alternate timeline, where Europe and the US suffered deep economic depression while CSAT countries grew rapidly. Who's to say Russia didn't suffer like Europe and the US? Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see Spetnaz with more high-tech stuff too but I think we should give BIS scope to develop the setting and make changes.

    Seeing as like you said, Russia aren't in CSAT yet, it makes sense to have Russia + Spetznaz separate. That way it'll be canon, unless BIS change things in Contact DLC. It also adds another faction for people to use in mission making that aren't aligned to NATO or CSAT. Kudos on the great work as always. 😎

    Hmm, not convinced. I'm seeing more a guy in a smock with the hood up - maybe with a white/pale mask, carrying an MX variant rifle. Not sure what the logo (?) is in the bottom right.

    Interesting, thanks for posting. It begs the question who 'Amy' might be and what a ED-1D is (UGV?). I imagine Amy will be like the journalist Kate in Laws of War and a audio/video character only. While I'm unsure of the Alien idea (probably enjoyable but not my cup of tea for Arma per se), the phone message theme does have a missile alert feel to it, so perhaps it could just be a new region of the world to explore (Russia/ Korea?), alongside the same scale or smaller as Apex? Please tell me it's the Dragon Rising Islands, that would be totally hilarious trolling for BIS to do 😂 From 'Acts' in the filenames it's not a stretch to search google for Acts of War on wikipedia, to this Star Wars wiki page - 'telling the story of a Jedi task force sent to the Yinchorri system to settle a conflict.' With Russia supposedly making a decision about whether to enter CSAT, perhaps that's when Aliens decide to intervene? 😮
  16. I look for well-executed geo-typical terrains that really capture the feel of a specific landscape. Bohemia Interactive have absolutely nailed this with places like Chernarus and Altis. I don't want to belittle anyone's hard work, but I cringe at the terrains that don't use somewhere real as a base at least - they just don't look real and that breaks any immersion for me. Same goes for anywhere that has had the scale played with too much. Make a map that makes players respond to it in a natural way and that gives mission makers spaces to put temporary objectives, like landing zones/ secret camps away from towns/villages. I think often map makers think you have to create towns/installations in every part of the map, or create really large, complex towns/ military installations when small ones can be just as interesting. Just stick to what the map gives you and complete that. If you then want to do another terrain with another feature, do that rather than trying to make one map all things to all people. Rivers are great as they can be obstacles or aids to movement, but are hard to pull off convincingly, especially in Arma as others have said above. Do look in streetmap of places to get an idea how they would be laid out. Do use rocks the same colour as the sat map/ ground textures. Do look at the bedding of the geology in photos/ google streetmap and use that as a guide when placing the large cliff/ rock objects. Do make the places looked lived in and have history. Villages and towns aren't just a grid of roads with houses in the gaps, they've been added to, changed, destroyed, rebuilt over time. Do use the sat map to get the placing of the buildings feel right, and use small objects sparingly so mission creators can fill them.

    Eeep, I hope not. Hopefully they're just over-ambitious as usual and have bitten off more than they can chew in the time. Some more of update (as always for BIS...) would be helpful/constructive. I'd be happy with a TacOps style mission to be honest, just on a slightly larger scale. We'll see, but it would be awful for BIS's work on Arma 3 to end on a cancelled project.

    Who's to say NATO weren't jamming CSAT satellite surveillance, or Miller's team destroying AAF surveillance capability in their 'need to know' missions referred to by James? Considering the really small number of troops you fight on Stratis after the initial Green-on-Blue, I can see AAF pulling troops back to Altis as they think they've finished Aegis off on Stratis and want to concentrate on defeating FIA on Altis. Perhaps only once AAF realise that CTRG are present, or that more NATO forces are doing quite a bit more damage than they realise do they ask CSAT to intervene which is why Miller finally decides to bug out. I seriously doubt it - I think we'll get a CSAT super techy looking static ship and some superficial bits and pieces, then I imagine the scenario will be something akin to Apex Protocol in story-telling, but with perhaps a Tac-Ops/ Scouting mission feel to it - I imagine it'll be CTRG again, probably deployed ahead of the main NATO occupation, culminating in CSAT getting involved to tie up both East Wind and Apex Protocol. Either that or, considering the delays, it might be something bigger, but consider BIS have said previously only three people are working on it, it seems unlikely. Seems a shame to finish Arma 3 on a bit of a damp squib though 😕

    Pretty sure that's devs who've stated that - though can't remember where. I prefer it that way to be honest, since it makes the Armaverse more complicated than a simple two sided conflict. Although it's unlikely we'll see it in Arma 3, it would be interesting to see tension between Russia and CSAT with NATO units in the middle.

    Looks promising - I'd recommend maybe making the campaign mission by mission so each one is more managable. I think what people want from sniper missions is detail and stealth - not just run and gun play with a sniper rifle. I've yet to see a mission where you set up a hide or use claymores/ tripmines to protect yourself - I think that would be interesting to see. The fact that your picture has a guy wearing a bergen is promising - makes you think about the limited supplies and what you should/ shouldn't carry. There's plenty of sniper books out there and I think you can get army manuals still as inspiration. If you'd like help I'd love to help polish things.

I'm feeling more and more that these Intel briefings are just becoming 'we are doing somethng but we're not going to tell you about it' updates, which are pointless for BIS to write, and frustrating for the community to read. I definitely think BIS can be more specific without necessarily giving away too much. They could at least promise small and over-deliver, which would stop the wild speculation.
