Aliens vs Predator

My g/f bought me this game as a pre-order, I got a confirmation today that it got shipped out. So I'll be getting (PC version of course) it around Friday/Saturday when the official release is.

I have high hopes, but reviews are a big mix (like with A2), gamespot giving it 5.5, IGN 8.5, independent reviewers from 2-10 :)

I'm a big aliens and predator fan, so I guess my review won't be fair heh. I'll try it out with my team to take a bit of a brake from the community work ;)

i loved AVP 1 , less AVP2 (landscape was super, but USCM not and atmosphere not)

also there is a new RTCW as i heard , RTCW was something unique and very very atmospheric, played 1000 times :D

AVP1, IGI1, RTCW1, MaxPayne1 (and OFP of course) - the best games in my opinion

I played the multiplayer demo, and it's fun (about the same as the first AvP), but the one thing that concerns me is that there is no duck, run or aim down sights (iron-sights) keys. It works for the multiplayer because that's why the original multiplayer was so good, because it was tense, yet simplistic.

I just hope that they don't simplify the singleplayer as well.

One thing I got from reading the reviews though is that they seem to give fairly average scores but most say it's basically a remake. Apparently if you played the first game then there's no surprises. That's actually one of the selling points for me, because I loved the first game (and the second was even better)

I'm looking forward to it, but FFS I wish they'd make something where the Marines aren't just goddamn cannon fodder and the Marine campaign isn't just:

Some squad-control-esque kind of thing would be awesome. When's that damned never-to-be-released Colonial Marines game coming out? :(

Although I loved AvP2 for the marine missions. More aptly, for that first mission. It was the first game in a long time where I think my heart stopped. Had the gamma right down and couldn't see anything but what the flashlight shone on. Then seeing a silhouette of a Predator for a second then hearing the *wick-oosh* of the Pred's weap and thinking "bugger this", then running for my life.

I know it's done for the sake of Balance but the Predator is too visible when cloaked IMHO, was the same in AVPs 1 and 2.

The reason I bring it up, despite the balance argument, is because I dont remember a sole Alien taking out multiple Predators either ;)

everytime i try and load into game it just freezes up...updating gfx card drivers now, if that doesnt work i guess ill reinstall. Enad's had it crash on him 12...not a great 1st impression

So far i'm impressed with some aspects of the demo, the atmosphere/lighting and especially the sounds (pulse rifle is just :yay:). The complete chaos of the deathmatch tho is stupid. Lets hope the other modes are good. I have to admit, that although naughty me and a couple of friends have been playing as marines and working together. Its so much fun especially if there is only you playing as marines.

I tell you what, you cant slaughter them so easyily when moving in a squad. Thats why i cant wait for other modes, and especially the coop horde mode.

I'm off to go and watch Aliens, get me in the mood...

This game is very fun, multiplayer kind of blows atm (no dedicated servers, but they will be patching them in with-in the month :) , you can still play online tho in ranked matches asuming the host doesnt have shit for a connection; the game modes are VERY fun), but single player is also really fun, (each species has their own campaign and it really submerses you into the mind set of a Marine, alien & predator.) it reminds me of playing Doom 3 for the first time. Definite keeper if your a fan of the movies or you like the whole "Scared-of-the-dark" feeling :D

Game got released yesterday, even in walmarts etc.

In Slovenia we got PS3, X360 and PC versions and we're already selling them. I'm still awaiting mine to arrive (UK, as a gift).

I saw the advert on TV last night.

The sound effects were all they should be the graphics looked poor and un-menacing.

Hopefully the gameplay will be on par with the orginal title.

I will be getting this title for PC on the offchance.

Sucks that it's a Steam game. I hope it won't be acount bound if I buy it in a shop.

yeh i got mine off steam they released at like 3pm eastern time yesterday. They seemed to have a lot of problems with the downloads on some forums ive read some people said it took like 12 hours to download on a fast connection. I have almost all my games on steam and it was the slowest download i've ever had.

On top of this i found out what my problem was...when i ran it, it was running in dx11 mode as default, even when i was telling it to run in dx9 mode (NO Dx10 wtf?!?) so every time i tried to load into game it would crash as obv my GTX 275 doesn't support DX11. The annoying thing is the game forces itself into dx11 mode by default. If someone who is less computer savvy than most of the people on this forum (i.e. any casual steam user) then they would not have known what the problem was because the only way i found out was checking which .exe version was actually being run at program start up...seems like a stupid idea which will probably need to be fixed with a patch.

and before anyone points this out yes i am aware that when you start avp it asks if you would like to run in dx11 or dx9 mode (or just run it) the problem i had was that it was defaulting to dx11 mode no matter which option i checked. I imagine there is something wrong with their hardware detection in the game.

either way i played it for a grand total of 1 minute last night before getting too tired and going to bed. I hope i have better luck tonight.

Mine's released on Steam, it also says it's around 15gb download and my monthly quota has 10gb left for another week.

EDIT : Hmm.. something odd there. It said available now and 15gb this morning, now it says unavailable (unlocks on the 20th) and download is 4.5gb... odd.

I liked the demo despite some issues. I will try to get it soon for the sake of the good old days at least.

I don't get these reviews about this game. They say for example that the gameplay is nothing new or revolutionary which is fair enough, but then they seem to point out that the likes of Halo and Modern Warfare are better shooters out there...! How so ?

Aliens was on TV over here in the UK (just finished on Film 4).

They aired a trailer for the new AvP game that lasted the entire duration of the first ad break. That's some pretty impressive marketing.
