SASrecon 0 Posted December 11, 2009 Nah - I think it is just the desaturation filter they use for ambiance.Looks promising, though. I am a bit disappointed that they didn't really show more of the model and such. Almost like they used the darkness/desat to cover stuff up or something. If you make the weather slighly foggy in the mission editor, the ground looks slightly frosty. For the best frost effect try it on the schmalfelden map, the frosty ground looks almost real ;)

low light 0 Posted December 11, 2009 ...Looks promising, though. I am a bit disappointed that they didn't really show more of the model and such. Almost like they used the darkness/desat to cover stuff up or something. I don't think they are trying to hide anything. I believe some have mistaken a TEASER for a TRAILER. The current video is a Teaser I believe therefore something made merely to tease us...the bast**ds!!! ;) Looking forward to more delights...who knows maybe it will be there just in time for Christmas

Steakslim 1 Posted December 11, 2009 I'm curious about that teaser. In it it shows a camera view using FLIR, but is it an updated FLIR or the faux FLIR that came with ArmA2 originally? It'd be cool if they managed to code in that work around they mentioned in the main OA topic regarding vanilla ArmA2 units and vehicles (to have a set temp without having to bake in new textures)
manzilla 1 Posted December 11, 2009 If every company were like BIS I'd seriously consider surrendering my socialistic beliefs. Haha! I can't fault you for those. ;) Regardless I agree. What a wicked company BIS is. It's truly a damn shame more companies across all industries don't act like BIS. It's obvious they care about the users and their product. Thanks fellas! Once again you've convinced me to keep playing this game for a few more years! :)
AndresCL 10 Posted December 11, 2009 Awesome support BIS. Im fully decided to buy OA now, no matter the cost

smetana 10 Posted December 11, 2009 ... (Freetrack support, BattleEye, AI and performance enhancements)... WAIT WAT?!
-=seany=- 5 Posted December 11, 2009 I really hate to be a naysayer /party pooper but, while I am extremely grateful for all the new features and bug fixes and free content, I would give it all up in a heart beat to have more optimization of the game and better performance, which is what this patch was supposed to bring. So far we have had one performance fix, the bug in the streaming engine. Other than that nothing, in fact I have seen some reports that all the new AI features that have been added could actually be taking more FPS away. Well, no one likes a Scrooge, so thanks for what we have and what we will be getting anyway. I'm just a bit disappointed that it seems bis has no further options or ideas on how to get the game to run better (on today's top end hardware).
cole 0 Posted December 11, 2009 WAIT WAT?! http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82 http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php - check the log (latest one, in the green bar, contains all changes from all betas) [60457] New: FreeTrack support using FreeTrackClient.dll :)
Zipper5 74 Posted December 11, 2009 But, like ArmA before it, seany, ArmA II will run amazingly on future hardware. What gets me 40 to 60 FPS in ArmA II right now, got me over 100 FPS in ArmA before it. You just got to be patient. ;)
Joseph Archer 10 Posted December 11, 2009 Yeah, when 4ghz quad cores and ATI 5970's are the norm, happy days!
-=seany=- 5 Posted December 11, 2009 yeah then carrier command or Arma3 will be out and no one will be bothered with Arma2 anymore, just like Arma1 right now :p

If it would be possible to implement a big performance boost, BIS sure wouldn't wait until Christmas or Patch 1.05 with it. It's simply a complex game. It's much more complex than the one you compare it with. There is nothing like "bad coding" and a needed "optimization". At last not in the amount many expect. Arma2 is hardware hungry. Not for nothing. For good reasons. If you think otherwise and have good technical hints, please comment here. Not for nothing. For good reasons. If possible though BIS could program the game to be cached on all of that unused RAM that us Windows 7 and Vista peeps got in our rigs. I have 8GB and the game only supports 2GB, like the RAMDISK thread, caching could fix alot of problems, mainly streaming and Rendering. Which BIS has already done in one of the latest beta patches, added better streaming and rendering makes woods/forests and cities get better performance. Once BIS programmers learn more about the multicore architectures, We will getting more rendering done on CPU's! :D
