How many of you old OFP Veterans are still playing BIS games?

Recommended Posts

Still here.

Testing new games rarely, and when i do they are always just brief encounters. BIS games stay hardcoded in me.

Yeah BIS ruined us. Can't play any of those flashy games with the uber-cool ragdoll for more than 30-45 minutes because my brain keeps saying "Great Hors d'houvre, but when's the main course going to arrive?" No meat in games these days.

Hi there

I see more and more familiar names coming up even we might have never had the pleasure to get in touch personally, but it's always good to see the "oldtimers" hanging around and being part of the community. Yeah I'm an ArmAholic definitely. I tried lot's of games started with DOOM and tried every game I could get my hands on since but there's no other game that got me hooked like this and it's good for my anger problem too.LOL!!!:D

This is the most challenging game I've ever played and I love it. We are going to have fun for many years to come I believe, reason for this is the active creative part of the community mod - addon - mission makers. Is there any other game out there with the same amount of user created content and mods? I'm really not sure. There's tons of user created stuff for every title. I haven't even finished to discover all user made content for OFP.

I have not been part of any other gaming community because the first one I joined was immediately the right one.LOL:D

My best wishes to all of you

cheers

Well I never thought all those years ago, here I would be still addicted to Bohemia's software. Dammit I am 50 now, I should be cured!!! (or nearly dead at least... I mean are there any other coffin dodgers still playing this or am I officially supposed to be past it now?, I saw Arma2 last week and I just HAD to buy it! Some sort of compulsive dissorder thing or something lol. Nurse, Nurse the voices in my head made me buy it :)

If any of the old DC10 "clan" are out there I would LOVE to hear from them!!

We had some awesome coop teamwork going, I miss it like crazy. Other shooters never cut it for me, OFP/Arma STILL in a league of their own. DC10 coop extrordinaires.

Anyway it's great to be back, now I just have to get this pesky mouse setup sorted so I can actually hit a barn door lol.... nothings changed lol I am still a better Heli pilot than marksman ggrrhh

OK I am outta here nurse says I need a lot of sleep after all the purchase excitement of the weekend.

Cheers

Gen

Been playing BIS software since OFP and I never get tired of it. With ARMA II, it keeps evolving in to something better. Almost 10 years, man I can't even begin to think how many hours...LOL

Haha yeah, I can relate to that. OFP came out when I was 10 years old. Now I'm 19. The game and the community, especially OFPEC, has been a part of my upbringing and my childhood. Due to the amount of time that some of us have put in, especially during critical stages of our lives, I'd say OFP/ArmA/ArmA2 has been much more important for us as persons than we'd want to acknowledge. :p

I started playing BIS simulators right at the start with demo mission "ambush" and since then countless hours/days i have played these "games". Testing all the interesting mods/addons and playing many user made missions/campaigns.

By the times of OFP i used to be part of the clan. Nowadays i'll usually just play SP or make missions.

I'm 30 and i'm not going to quit playing BIS simulators as long as the quality and realism stays as it is now. "This is gun porn for me"

Yep, I too played OFP and all the expansions, Arma and now I'm, er not actually playing Arma2 but mostly doing scripts or checking functionality.

I realized today I registered on the forums eight years ago

Yep, I played OFP all the expansions and hung out on the original forums back in the day. In those days some of the members of 7th a band BIS used to score the game were actually forum moderators. I don't know what happened to those guys.

Those were the days. I can remember when the Demo came out and how excited everyone was. OFP for it's time was quite an achievment.

And look how far we've come....

Old OFP vet. Best mp gaming I had was it and R6 back in the early 2000s. I mod the game a little and still follow it mostly out of nostalgia for those days.

Far as actually playing it online.. I don't like semi-anonymous online MP, LAN was where it's at. Most friends long gone or moved on though, so those days are over.

I'm on OFP since demo days.

Editing since demo days, in fact, back then we were editing mission.sqm files with notepad and a tool converting map info to coordinates in mission.sqm

Aaaah, the days of release, first MP tests, discovering the ultra-crappy DirectPlay based netcode (gunning in a player controlled vehicle was nightmare), the first CTFs, C&H. OFPEC, Avon Lady FAQ....

3 games so far that hooked me in a somewhat similar way (though none have reach OFP/ArmA level in terms of dedication, even if some come close) : Falcon 4, Planetside, ET:QW. Rather heterogeneous choice, and that's exactly the strength of OFP/ArmA to me : it's opened, moddable, changeable like no other game

I'm playing in OFP/A1/A2 since 2002. Even now, spending most time with A2, still play OFP because it's the only game in which I have almost complete armies of about 20 countries. Sadly, neither Arma1 nor Arma2 don't have such variety.

I remember getting the pre-release demo for OFP as soon as it was available, and I bought the game as soon as I could find it locally.

The demo was just way too much fun. I was able to get more mileage and challenge out of it by trying to beat the SP mission by TKing the leader right at the start and surviving the M113 long enough to loot the LAW off a guy in the first village. I eventually was able to beat the mission each time by killing everything on the map. Someone eventually released an edited version of the demo to include all the vehicles in the code for us to play with.

I knew I was going to like the game before the demo, but the demo was just a total blast. Our group of friends played OFP feverishly until sometime in 2004.

We skipped Red Hammer, but bought Resistance, and after playing through the awesome sp campaign, our group of friends moved all mission-making and online operations to Nogova. That island was like a second home.

ArmA1 wasn't something I was very happy with because of the odd mouse lag. I didn't get into that game in full until after ACE was released, after I had built a new machine that could just brute force it's way around the mouse issue. I didn't bother with Queen's Gambit.

ArmA2 has been just awesome for me. It just worked nicely from the start, and I couldn't stop playing it, and it's only gotten better since with patches, ACE and the like. The amount of new content being created for ArmA2 exceeds the free time I have to experience it, which would make this game one of the highest values I've ever experienced (along with OFP, Morrowind, and Oblivion).

I'm really looking forward to Operation Arrowhead.
