ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

That tells us nothing as to wether or not DLC in question means pay for or no, which is what I'm getting at..why are speculating on it so much, more so assuming that Downloadable Content instantly means Pay to Download and again why are we fretting and disputing over it so much that we have dedicated so many pages to endless figure eights of the same discussion.

True, true. However, we've made the distinction that "DLC" can be free, as there were "DLC" releases by BIS in the past which were free. e.g. patches with extra content. ;)

This is very good news. Cant wait to see what DLC they got going for OA. That news put me in an good vibe. Its DLC for better units and so on. If you would not like to buy it dont. Many people would pay addon makers money for there work. In that way DLC would be in both ways good for the community as it give more option more content all the goods. You got the option not to buy or if you like to buy. No bad in this.

And someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the apache or bradley DLC for OFP at some point?

It was all available for free, but codemasters re-distributed all the free content with the Red Hammer campaign disk and gold edition.

Hmmwv, Bradley, AH64, Kiowa, Chinook, vulcan, su-25, BMP-2, BRDM and trabant.

I think these were all the free vehicles they gave us before resistance, the good old days :) .

Even more credence to the "Free DLC" claim. ;)

i dont think that i am alone when i say this, but the term "DLC" leaves a sour taste in the mouth...

it does not matter if its free or not, i still dislike that term

I agree, i propose a new forum rule.

What's wrong with it? It's DLC - Downloadable content. Content that you can download. ;)

our questions should be answered in a couple weeks

Oh yeah, it's June 2010 already. Release is this month! :D

It was invented by people who needed a term for milking out games a bit more. It sounds flashy, but it is made of pure evil.

What would happen if BIS decided to release pay to play DLCs? Some People would buy it, some wont. But then some People who bought the DLC would perhaps make MP Missions with this content and play them on Servers. This would mean that everybody without this DLC can´t join the Server and play that Mission. Now Imagine one of those "made with DLC" Missions is really really good, like Domination for example, and nearly half of the Servers are only playing this Mission. The People without the DLC would be pretty F***

So I have a good Idea, let BIS do DLCs, but let them release it for free but with the option to donate via paypal or something like that. Im sure there are many Fans out there who would gladly donate some Money to BIS

Worst... reasoning... evar...

I hate when people go the whole "oh but it will split the community" route. Newsflash people: the "community" is alread fragmented 7 ways from sunday. A little extra content isnt going to make it any worse.

I have a better idea, assuming you're old enough to have a job, lets take your salary away and let your managers donate your wages to you. I'm sure they will gladly donate for high quality work!

The Community is fragmented? Not really. If you want to play on a specific Server but you are missing some Addons you can download then immediately from armaholic.

Some People are just unwilling to pay for DLCs, and I´m one of them

I`m already paying for OA, and I would even like to give BIS some more Money, because they are really good at making games, and I cant believe that OA isn´t going to be sold for full price. I just hate the Idea of pay to play DLCs

I can't believe no one else is more excited about true map northings... :p

6 pages since I went to bed and its all about some abstract conversation on DLC. Lets drop it guys and talk about how awesome the content will be, free, paid for, requiring satanic sacrifice, whatever. :)

Not to mention the hours of searching and dead links.

Not to mention with ArmA we got the warfare release with new units. With ArmA II we got Eagle Wing and the Apache.

All is good. Its an win win way for BIS and the community for the DLC. We all know this.

Now that you mention it, we sorta did get an entire, new, free faction in the ArmA 1 "DLC" - The USMC! I guess we can all sleep happy now. ;)

My only gripe with pay DLC is that I prefer to pay 15 euros or more for a full pack than say 5 euros for each individual components.

I prefer a smaller number of bigger DLC to keep up with (and take for granted that everyone in MP will have the same Pack) rather than a dozen of individual addons, because everyone has its favourites (guns, tanks, helos, cars, planes, ships...) and no two people would have the same config.

OT : maybe a separate topic would be more appropriate for DLC's

Please no more mention of DLC, more fact about the product itself that we will all be paying for.

I say put everything else on the back burner and fix the AI issues! Hopefully a fix will be coming soon. If I had $1 for every time my AI "squadmates" decided to ignore/not follow/ not keep up/ wouldn't line up in formation, I would be well off. This is the one rough spot that really keeps ARMA 2 from realizing its full potential. The game is great, EXCEPT when the AI issues get out of hand and ruin the mission!

Do you really have to post practically the same thing three times (twice in this thread) in one day?
