icewindo 29 Posted April 22, 2010 June I cant wait that long :P going to be good times :) Don't worry, up to June means you only have to wait like 15.000 times 5 minutes long for a elevator to arrive... having worked in a hospital that would be my nightmare I guess. jakerod 254 Posted April 22, 2010 (edited) Just noticed two interesting things in the random town video. The Takistani militia have a guy who has "RPG Ammo", one with an FN-FAL, and another who has a Lee-Enfield. Also it seems to me that the towns aren't actually randomly generated but that there are some predefined templates for them. I could be wrong but the name at the top of the screen "Loading Rashtak" seems to indicate this. EDIT: At post below mine, that could be true too. It was just my first thought when I saw it. A lot of enter-able buildings too. That will be good if the AI use them. Edited April 22, 2010 by Jakerod
Alex72 1 Posted April 22, 2010 Yeah maybe. Or they are given names to work with ALICE and special missions. So they actually get a town name in the map. Could be either way. :)
maddogx 13 Posted April 22, 2010 They are definitely being procedurally generated. That much was stated by BIS, at least if memory serves. Templates would be little too simple. ;) Like Alex said, they probably get random names so you can use them with missions. How else would you know which town to refer to if you generate five or six of them? ;D If you want to give a town a pre-defined name, you can probably add it as a parameter in the generator module. :)
Ext3rmin4tor 10 Posted April 22, 2010 No it's the other way round. Arma 2 content can be used inside OA. Ah, nice! And do you know how is it done? I mean, will you have to manually export ArmA 2 files into OA, or will the game detect an installation of ArmA 2 and ask you if you want to move the contents? I mean, will you have to manually export ArmA 2 files into OA, or will the game detect an installation of ArmA 2 and ask you if you want to move the contents? So far no one knows how it will work, but I'd be willing to bet that OA will detect an existing Arma2 installation and provide an extra shortcut to OA where the original Arma2 content is loaded as a kind of "mod". Copying all the original Arma2 content would be pretty stupid, as it would increase the disc space requirements by several gigabytes just for some redundant files. :)

sidhellfire 0 Posted April 22, 2010 Probably there's gonna be a new compilation of engine module. The game released will be brand new, with Arrowhead content, and the vanilla Arma2 will get a patch, that will update the engine. As you can see, core content is in "addons" directory, so basically situation is same as in Queens Gambit, but Arrowhead will be standalone, since updated arma2.exe will be provided with it. The game probably will want to install itself into arma2 directory (if exists).
gulag 10 Posted April 22, 2010 Great news so far, I hope for an improvement of friendly's AI combat maneuvers, since it will be a desert terrain .:p
BF2_Trooper 0 Posted April 22, 2010 Now, will we be able to generate more than one town? Would it be just a matter of placing several of these modules on the map?

Beagle 684 Posted April 22, 2010 Now, will we be able to generate more than one town? Would it be just a matter of placing several of these modules on the map?The deal with that module is, that you can generate random towns, so that nobody has the advantage of "knowing the map" in multiplayer games. It deems me that with OA will come the resurrection of the good old deathmatch and team deathmatch matches.
santafee 10 Posted April 22, 2010 Just have read the 4players german preview. PLEASE BIS.....Dont forget the AI;-( There are many people which dont even touch the MP. Atleast make our friendly AI Squad more responsible...
jonneymendoza 10 Posted April 22, 2010 Found some preview movies on the net and it looks very nice, it seems they fine-tuned the engine to as the movements and aiming was so smooth. Getting very curious what engine updates they implemented, any news about that? Also i would like to know how the distribution is gonna work out, especially the download version. Will it be on sprocket or are there other publishers releasing it in each country, like the german Arma2 version. Can you post a link please?
blackland 26 Posted April 22, 2010 The official press release for ArmA 2 - Operation Arrowhead has been released! Arma 2: Operation Arrohwead will be released on 29th June exclusively for PC. Quote : Prague, Czech Republic, April 22nd Award-winning independent development studio Bohemia Interactive today confirmed that Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, the forthcoming standalone expansion pack for Arma 2, best military simulator of 2009, will be available to buy across the globe from June 29th. Developed as a massive standalone expansion pack enlarging Arma 2 to a completely new level, Operation Arrowhead promises to deliver yet more of the highly authentic military simulation gameplay the series is famed for, while shifting the action to an all-new environment and adding key new features to Arma 2’s already vast palette. Set in the fictional region of Takistan and taking place three years after the Arma 2’s campaign, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead features three new world maps with radical new terrain; sandy deserts, a dense city with surrounding countryside and a rocky mountainous region. Also included in the standalone expansion pack is support for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to observe, strike and rescue from afar, along with a fully-modelled FLIR thermal imaging simulation with unprecedented realism to give the player advantages while working at night, going as far as to model vehicle engine heat, tyre friction and even glowing weapon barrels after being fired. A new campaign is included, with Bohemia Interactive taking the experience gained from its previous games, combined with real world events and political intrigue, to create a storyline that serves as a chilling reminder to the geo-political situation the world finds itself in on a constant basis. Other new features include a detachable backpack system for carrying more weapons and ammunition, and an overhauled optics system allowing keen marksmen to ‘zero in’ their scopes to account for ballistic fall-off. ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead employs a third-generation engine benefitting from more than a decade of continual development and unique experience in implementing new technologies and procedures. Named the Real Virtuality engine, it is widely recognised as the premier platform for modern military simulations where realism and technical accuracy are crucial. Bohemia Interactive Studio’s Real Virtuality engine is used as a base for real-world training simulators implemented by numerous governments and militaries around the world including the United States Marine Corps, the United Kingdom Minstry of Defence and the Australian Defence Force. ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead features in full: • New Playable Content: New story campaign for both single and multi-player gameplay. Wide range of new tutorials, single scenarios and multiplayer modes. • Massive Game World: Three brand new Central Asia-style large maps including expansive urban, desert and mountainous terrain, featuring a fully destructible and interactive environment. • Extra Units and Vehicles: Multiple factions for all sides including US Army, United Nations, Takistani Army and Guerrillas making a collection of 300+ new units, weapons and vehicles. • Ultimate War Simulation Experience: Fully integrates with the original ARMA 2 for unmatched warfare simulation. • Unique Gameplay Elements: Detachable backpacks with equipment, advanced weapon optics, material penetration modeling, remote real-time simulation of Unmanned Arial Vehicles (UAV), freedom of decision and repercussive actions. Arma 2: Operation Arrohwead will be released on 29th June exclusively for PC. Press Release provided by Games Press. Source

santafee 10 Posted April 22, 2010 BIS never mentioned anything about AI ,right? Only that worries me Its not only making worries for me, its making me not buy the game if theres no advantage. Im playing only SP, and pushing out only more cool scenarios and maps but not changing the gamecode doesnt help the sluggish game and ai mechanics. Give SP players some good arguments to buy Arrowhead[AI.........!!!] please, BIS.
gossamersolid 155 Posted April 22, 2010 In the town generator you can clearly see Germany and Czech Republic under BLUEFOR armies. Are they going to be in the final version? Also to what extent (aircraft, tanks, infantry, all)?
enad 11 Posted April 22, 2010 Have you watched any of the Videos or read any official news posts about OA? Ofcourse they're going to be in game. They obviously wouldn't take them out of the game last second. -_-
ryguy 10 Posted April 23, 2010 I'm very confused as to why BIS has made this standalone and not just a normal expansion pack?? I'd much rather have everything put into one. Also, I hope to god ACE takes out it's own strykers, desert Humvees, little birds, etc. so I don't end up having two of everything.
