hoak 0 Posted July 17, 2009 I personally think Jan Prazak's Developer Diary videos are superb, and exactly the sort of thing ArmA II needs more of! His charming accent, patient and careful coverage of detail that many ArmA Fans take for granted -- work perfectly in distracting 'new to ArmA' Gamer's from their assumptions long enough to get them to appreciate both that depth of what they're seeing goes well beyond what they've seen in other games, and the enormous value ArmA II offers. I hope we see more of this sort of thing from Jan, and also think dedicated ArmA II YouTube site (they host them now, and it can even mirror the ArmA II/BI site aesthetic) that makes these videos, tutorials, and introductions more visible to an even wider prospective audience. Downloadable illustrated transcripts would also make for nice companion guides... There's a considerable barrier of ignorance and expectation that presentations like Jan's punch through, and when they do the reaction they get are 'Oooh!', 'Ahhha!' and 'WoWoW!' of surprise and enthusiasm (I was there and heard it first hand). Jan's video was just what was needed to interest an acquaintance to give the ArmA II demo another look, and got BI another sale an hour later. :)
Barely-injured 0 Posted July 17, 2009 so true. Especially if they are supplemented by more detailed manuals, like Dslyecxi's ArmA2 Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures Guide or Mr.Murray's Arma editing guide. There were many people on youtube asking for a more detailed explanation of triggers after the second video came out.
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted July 17, 2009 I'm happy to see them release tutorials like these, but..... what island is showing on his monitor at the beginning?

hoak 0 Posted July 17, 2009 The dev-videos are uploaded on youtube not on arma2.comhttp://www.youtube.com/user/ARMA2official Cool! Didn't know they had a YoobToob page. But they are in fact also on the ArmA II site here, and here... :)

Callsign 128 Posted July 17, 2009 I have to agree with the others, nice and simple videos that just promote the game in a friendly and informative way, he should so be getting a raise for them :D

-=seany=- 5 Posted July 17, 2009 I am enjoying these vids. I had to laugh, I recognised Jan from some where but I couldn't work out where... then I realised.... He has built many a base for me with his twins in OFP CTI :) lol. Lazy buggers always had to be herded with the MHQ to make 'em build my buildings :) ahh good memories :icon_lol:
GoOB 0 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) I too really enjoy these videos - I am an old OFP veteran who didn't buy the original ARMA and these videos work great as a means to update my grasp on the editor and other new aspects of ARMA II. Alot of stuff is familiar and I know how to to most everything I need or want to do, but having someone with insight guide you through everything helps alot - Great work mr.Prazak! I hope to see some text-based tutorials for the editor later on though. EDIT: ARMA II has also been on the "best-sellers"-list for Webhallen.se for more than a month now, great to see ARMA II doing so well sales wise. funnyguy1 0 Posted July 17, 2009 They really need to show ppl how powerful the editor is. The first editing vid was nice (just like the whole idea of making this tutorial vids), it just isn't as stunning as the editing capabilities, especially to a casual gamer. Crunchie 10 Posted July 17, 2009 Like the rest of you, I hope Jan continues with the great video tutorials. There's so much to cover for us noobs so I for one would appreciate a bit more depth but the style is spot on and I also like the accent if that's not too patronising. katua 10 Posted July 17, 2009 His charming accent, I have to admit i don´t understand speaking english from a natural born american or european english speaker, british ones are easier but still hard, so in this case i could understand pretty good most of the speech. Scrub 0 Posted July 18, 2009 I agree. The comfortable, informative way he brings the game features across is inviting and enjoyable.. Dare I say 'accessible'. He's shown how common messups happen, and also good basic tips on things that may not be clear to new users. Hope you keep digging into the depth of the game. I wish he'd do a series of in depth video tutorials on using the editor and scripting for Arma 2. That would be a big hit with the hard core nerds here. ---------- Post added at 02:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:33 AM ---------- They really need to show ppl how powerful the editor is. cartier90 0 Posted July 18, 2009 Yeah, they should be longer.
hoak 0 Posted July 24, 2009 Yeah, they should be longer. Well you got your wish! Jan just made a new one about 'commanding your team', and it's in two parts, and just as good if not better then everything that came before it! The new video is on Official ArmA II YouTube Site, you'll want to see it in order and were placed in viewing order rather then the chronological order of previous videos so that people intuitively click on the right one first.I personally can't get enough of these; Jan's understated, rational, disarmingly charming and useful presentation compared to the marketing hype and crap that's constantly dished out in the U.S. -- gives ArmA II and BI a real credibile voice, with a real person attaced to it. Jan's videos continue to accomplish what I, and apparently the Manual have not manage for my friends and acquaintances, i.e.: make ArmA II's features and interface clear, rational and accessible. I know putting something like this together takes a lot more time then it appears, but I think these are very winning presentations (and apparently I'm not alone). It would probably be worthwhile to create a section for these videos on the ArmA II Steam page, or make them downloadable on Steam, or at least announce them on the ArmA II Steam Forums... Thanks Jan! :)
