Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

do you think this CPU makes hot different ingame ARMA 2?

Coreâ„¢2 Quad Prozessor Q9400 (2,66 GHz)

Coreâ„¢2 Duo Prozessor E8500 (3,16 GHz)

bye,

Well , Suma said :

Currently I can provide only an estimation, for final words you still have to wait for later:

Our intention is to scale at least to some extent to quad cores (this means with quad cores you should have either better performance in some scenes than in dual cores). Therefore the game should run better on Quad Core compared to Dual Core assuming they both run at the same frequency.

That said, you can get higher frequency Dual Core for the same money as you could get Quad Core. My prediction is 3.3 GHz Dual Core will most likely run the game better than 2.5 GHz Quad Core, while both will cost you approximately the same.

One thing to note: different scenarios / workloads may show different performance patterns - e.g. it is possible missions with huge numbers of units will runner better on 2.5 GHz Quad Core than 3.3 GHz Dual Core.

.

If you're able to choose after that kind of assertion, contact me !

i think a 4850 will be good for arma2. Then just lower the object detail and raise texture quality to maximum :)

What do you chaps think about this for arma 2?:

Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition

Crucial 4GB (2x2GB KIT) 800MHz DDR2 PC2-6400

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4850 650Mhz 512MB DDR3 PCI-E 2.0 Dual DVI XXX Edition Card

Gigabyte AM2+ AMD770 DDR2 ATX Audio Lan

Im trying to build a cheap but capable enough system for arma2, i cant justify spending a lot as arma2 is the only thing i will use on it.

Im particularily interested in what you think of that processor.

It will do, but I'd spend a bit extra and get a Phenom II X3.

And I think stuff like this belongs in the real PC thread.

Your CPU definitely rocks, so you're fine on that front. Other than that it really depends on whether or not Arma2 fully supports Crossfire. If only one 3870 is used, you may be disappointed.

EDIT: Looks like you're in luck. :)

the ati catalyst 9.5 is already running on my system without problems.

thanks!

I'm running a dual core E5200 at 3.7GHz and an overclocked 8800GTS 512 driving a 22" screen so meet the recommended Arma2 specs, but with a 965P based motherboard and OEM SATA disk I wonder if disk speed and VRAM size are also significant factors ? I know I am at PCIE 1.0, and get significant LOD delay for several seconds in Arma1, so wonder if the move to mulit-core support will reduce this loading delay (I believe it is due to texture loading) or whether a faster disk and/or motherboard upgrade is needed to speed up the movement of data (though PCIE 1.0 to 2.0 is reportedly only a few % improvement).

I am just interested in people's thoughts, as the focus is always on GPU/CPU combinations. I will installing Arma2 on a raptor but will hold off any major upgrade until I have seen it run on the machine I have and read the feedback on the forums.

Swore I wasn't going to do one of those "will this run it.." posts but I'm a little confused. Don't really understand all the high techie numbering thingies anymore. Miss the old Pentium 600 faster than Pentium 120 , GeForce 4 faster than GeForce 2 etc.

Anyway , for you edification...

PERTINENT INFO:

O/S WinXP SP2 Home Edition. 2 G RAM.

CPU :

BIS Recommends - Athalon 64X2 4400 (or higher)

I have : Athalon 64X2 4200

Video:

BIS Recommends - ATI Radeon 4850 512 M

I have - ATI Radeon 3850 512 M

As you can see I'm (AFAIK) barely below recommended specs for ArmedA2 yet ArmedA1 has to be run at reduced graphics to run smoothly in SP mode  (unless I'm doing something wrong in the graphics settings) so , unless I'm totally way out in left field , the game must be optimized OR their minimum specs are out to lunch.

So in your opinion , do you think this thing will handle the game?

or..hmmmm.. just had a thought...maybe it has something to do with ArmedA2 utilizing both cores instead of one.

Hi all, (whilst waving!)

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 940 Black Edition 3.0GHz

Asus M3A78-EM AMD 780G (Socket AM2+) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Kingston HyperX 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C6 1066MHz

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache

Asus ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB GDDR5 TV-OutDual DVIHDMI (PCI-Express)

AOC 27" HDTV

Bog Standard Keyboard and M$ Laser 5000 Mouse

I thought I get laughed at :( and post my specs.

Patiently waiting for launch day.

:)

Hopefully we get those setting up towards fullish.

This is what Ohara said a couple of weeks ago.

For better performance you can use some small fast SSD disk, it really help for game loading and lods and texture streaming.

why don't they release a demo so we all can see how it works in our systems ?

that's the better way to ensure, this especifications dance is nothing more that confusing:386:

they plan to release a demo soon, probably before the 505 release (don't quote me on that as theres no official timeframe for the demo)

Thanks Von Paulus - missed that one. I'll probably end up installing on an old Raptor disk initially, then if I'm not happy with the performance an SSD might be the wisest (first !) upgrade.

I think my comment was to try and balance the view as most focus is on CPU and GPU specs.

I too have a 965 based motherboard. I understand your concerns. But after all this new previews I'm confident this time there will be no performance problems with medium rigs like ours.

Herranders im looking to get that cpu how did you get it to run at 3.8 and is it stable and cool

@ubascouser

it´s differend from cpu to cpu,

yes the 3,8Ghz / 1,5Vcore are stable by (prime) load 55° celsius,

but i have the best cpu air cooler (IFX-14 with two 120mm fan´s) and the headspreder from the cpu plan grinded with arctic cooling MX-2 thermal paste!

until 3920Mhz booted vista64 already but is not stable and to much temperatur with aircoooling.

with watercooling system is it possible to get 3,8Ghz - 4,1Ghz with a very good cpu.

now regarding arma2 and the summer temperatures,

i clocked down the cpu to 3,6Ghz / 1,42Vcore by load 52° celsius (max. speci. temp from amd for phenomII is 62°)

so the temperature are importend think regarding overclocking!

but i think with a medium air cooling system,

you can get 3,5 - 3,6Ghz without any problems. (but i think it is to close to the 62° max. temp, maybe 58°-60°)

all over this 3,5 - 3,6Ghz is depending from the whole system configuration and productions qualitiy cpu , and the operating system.

They made one for OFP and ArmA. Can't imagine any reason why they wouldnt make one for ArmA2.

Does anyone know if BI confirmed SLI/crossfire support? If so, can a source be provided?

I would like to upgrade before I get A2.

Unless you have a 30" monitor, I wouldn't bother. Just get a single fast card.
