I`m not that surprised it will be a Q1 2009 release, suits me fine personally anyway.

And I have to say the latest screens look better then the previous ones, especially the first one of the four smile_o.gif

My interest for the game has risen now.

I sincerely hope they can show us some of the new sides of ArmA 2, rather then the AH1Z we've already seen so much in the previous game.

PS: I've come to notice that the Russian soldier has a RPG-7. As of the Georgian conflict, some of these soldiers were using RPG-22/26/27 (disposible units). I hope they are added and is, this time, disposible.

PSS: I really hope there is a anti-missile system on aircrafts this time.

Yes! Especially this picture reminded me strongly of OFP (and this is very good). I think that the landscape of the new island will contribute very much to the athmosphere!

Let's hope that the game itself is not so broken-down as ArmA 1.0 was...

I welcome this delay, BIS! Please publish a finished and polished game!

"505 Games has announced that it will be publishing ArmA II in Europe during Q1 2009..."

505 Games = 1Q/2009

505 again? Personally I think their marketing for ArmA was abismal. I never saw one advert in any magazine, tv advert slot, bus, advert panel on the street etc, at least in the UK that is, whereas other games are advertised everywhere and anywhere.

Obviously its a question of money I'm sure, but there were many friends of mine who had always wanted a game like ArmA but had never ever heard of it until I pointed them in its direction.

Hopefully they'll do better second time round  smile_o.gif. The new screens look sublime, and ingame too  tounge2.gif. I'm not huhey convinced with the fire, but hopefully thats on the list of 'quick touch ups' towards the end.

I know i'm going to get shitload of flaming and probably even get banned for this but still...

This game is gonna fail badly. Bohemia is still using the old OFP engine again. I know it's updated, but it's basicly the same. Even ArmA was a big letdown for me. Still i bought it from Morphicon, don't know why...

I was so frustrated when i realised that it had the same animations, same dumb ass AI soldiers that see through everything. Only the sounds and gfx were updated after OFP. Even the SP campaign was a lot worse than OFP had.

After OFP i have BI forums bookmarked 7 years in my browser, but now... it's time to move on...

Arma needs some patience, and gets better with mods. But when it shines, it really shines and there is no competitors to it, possibly excluding Flashpoint itself.

Quote[/b] ]- Improved AI for team mates and enemies, now they use cover, hide and work better as a unit

What really would make my day is a gameplay video with active fire-fights against AI showing this.

So far I have only seen that video of squadmates standing stationary behind columns waving for communication.

erm... I give me an injection of diazepan to get calmed enough to avoid throwing my CRT screen across your nose (joking, i understand your statement  tounge2.gif ; but don't worry about being banned, you give arguments, it's no flaming ! )

Look, ArmA has the same animation engine that the OFP one.

They showed us they modified it for Arma2 -> reloading while walking does mean separation upper-lower body : the same happened from MGS2 -> MGS3 (yeah, MGS2 used about the same anim function as MGS1 ! ). This means we will see at least (if not modded) dead bodies articulated around a ground edge (no "head in the air" corpse anymore ^_^)

What I just need is a bit better and precise engine, and they give it to us : AI precision goes to 2 meters to 20 cms : what an update ! Now AI will be able to CQB properly, and take cover ! The AI routine wasn't that bad, it just needed precision to make it work.

AI seeing through everything has been fixed with vegetation update ; last 1.14 AI update brought more fAIr combat (I feel).

All the rest they put in is just pure bonus for me ^_^

I'm waiting to see if and how Arma2 will rock the world ;-)

Yes, you're right!

But it was exactly this game that brought us hours, days, months, yes, even years of athmosphere, fear, fun and happiness like no other game!

Now would someone please just ban him for this!? wink_o.gifwink_o.gif

Just a joke.

Bravo Montana... Well said!

Cover and precise AI pathfinding are really the missing ingredients for me. And of course, an optimized engine please  whistle.gif

Hello there,

interesting opinions on the lack of AI skills there. smile_o.gif . I fully agree that any improvements in the areas mentioned will be good stuff ,

especially for defending AI. "You want me to go behind what wall?"

But for me at least a far more limiting factor at getting the best fights possible out of this engine for the past years is the complete

lack of military logic or any logic at all the AI displays at team-behaviour(or the lack thereof) and at survival and situational-awareness skills .

This also goes for the very nice , but in combat not effective command system of OFP/ArmA that allows for very little , fast commanding on a squad level.

I hope to see some improvements there as well , even tho if you really can use suppression , that will improve things somewhat.

I am a bit sad that "Saving in Multiplayer" wasn't mentioned in the list of features posted so far , as I had high hopes of that being a good way to come up with new innovative missions.

As for the graphics , anything that attempts to capture the feeling and atmosphere of OFP graphics , is a step in the right direction for me.

But I guess we will see more at the end of the week. Hopefully the people that get to visit BIS don't get all focused on graphics, models and animations and such.

I'm still on the fence about ArmA2, so I'm looking forward to whatever comes from GC to sway me one way or the other... (for now)

I think il will give the ability to do it ; if top and bottom animations are differents, we can have both of them articulated around the hips, going nicely with the ground around (even a cliff ? the beginning of a little ragdollish death ?)

BTW, I forgot to talk about a campaign... Yeah, ArmA campaign wasn't immersive in long term. I tried to feel like a soldier, I used to be the soldier I was, but then, after the mission ends, I have to do the effort again to know who and where I am...

If they put great efforts in main characters and missions, hell, the engine apperance is good enough for me !

Hmm LOL, it nearly read "wishes to delete this old forum'  icon_rolleyes.gif

In any case, can't wait what news the GC will bring us about ArmA2:-).

OFP2 looked quite nice except hope viewdistance will be turned up.

Think I will be buying both games.
