sniper pilot 36 Posted September 26, 2006 It's just a cargo animation.... do we know for sure? im sorry if i missed some confirmation. we have multiple gunner positions so i wouldnt be suprised if you could shoot. They did mention suprises...Man i say that alot dont I?
Scrub 0 Posted September 26, 2006 If we can't fire from here, this would be a thorn in the side of BIS for some time to come. It looks awesome. If somehow we CAN fire from these positions... Maybe also from an IFV?
Heatseeker 0 Posted September 26, 2006 I jokingly said ArmA is hires Elite ... what most of you want is to ignore Elite (just because it is a console title) ... but ArmA is build on top of the advances made with Elite, so if you like it or not, you will play a title with a least some Elite 'genes' in it:) QFT! The shadding, waving vegetation, insects, water, lighting, colision detection, etc are all evidence of this. I have no doubts that Arma uses and takes advantage of the OPFE engine but obviously it was still much improved to take advantage of better PC hardware and to throw in new Arma features. I honestly believe that the optimisation achieved with the Elite engine (for the game to run fluid on xbox specs) is the miracle that will allow Arma to have more units and world detail than before . But... with no doubt all of this will be put to much better use on a PC .

OFP ran ok-ish on my old 500MHz/128 RAM/TNT2 32Mb Gfx PC, but Elite runs GREAT on the Xbox's similar (ok a tiny bit more powerful) specs. Now Imagine what you can do with that on a 3GHz/2Gb RAM/9800 Pro machine! And thats not even the most powerful rig out there.... /me dreams of Core2Duo and SLi

With 256RAM and a GF2 upgrade it ran a bit better but still a bit shite. Regarding the new engine we have to keep in mind that Arma will be alot more demanding than Elite, i expect it to be a very HW demanding game from the looks and size of things. I almost bought an xbox too, im glad i didnt though .
chipper 0 Posted September 27, 2006 With the optimized engine from OFP:Elite running on computer much more powerful than xbox just image how much more stuff you can have in-game without lag. Like a huge battle with 100 tanks. seen here
Coffin Joe 0 Posted September 27, 2006 One of the other changes they made to the OFP engine for the Xbox was the ability to stream terrain, which of course is what ArmA is doing.

Messiah 2 Posted September 27, 2006 breaking copyright ------ on the firing from the boat question, if its not posisble (which i highly doubt it is) then its easily possible given the ability to have multiple 'turrets' on vehicles - you just make every cargo pos in the boat a gunner pos, and make the weapon an M16/M4 etc... i did the same for the UKF snatch... very possible. Hona 0 Posted September 27, 2006 What do you think about this pic?http://www.akella.com/ru/oblogki/aa_f.jpg From the Russian Arma's publisher webpage Why does it say Operation Flaspoint 2: Armed Assault, didn't Codemasters own the name Operation Flashpoint? Callsign 128 Posted September 27, 2006 http://ofp.gamepark.cz/news/pics3/armasuechtig2.jpg 95K this pic (and a few others) seem to suggest BIS has fixed the firing through the hill bug/ gun dissolving into terrain bug, which is much better plus it means firing the guns will be more realistic and may affect the accuracy etc. yer not sure about the art work on the russian box, the wierd scope thing on the m4 which i guess is a grenade launcher sight (yet no grenade launcher underneath) and the firing of a stinger at the mi - 17 about 50m away but meh its ugly and they'll probably have to have their name changed bootneckofficer

Guest Ti0n3r Posted September 27, 2006 Looks like that to me too. But the aiming through walls exploit was removed for Elite so I guess the same goes for ArmA.
robert(uk) 0 Posted September 27, 2006 !!ugly!! Â Yeah that looks like one of those budget titles you find on store shelves when the game is like 3+ years old, and has been reissued to try and rake in some last $$$...

That would be the best, so a guy don't fire all his mags with a m16, then jumps out and has a new weapon with full mags
TrevorOfCrete 0 Posted September 27, 2006 im pretty sure that would be possible with a script
Stelios 1 Posted September 27, 2006 Screenies keep getting better, but I'm wondering if we are gonna get a glimpse of the SF units that will probably be featured in ArmA. As it's usually Army Rangers or SF that use the MH-6's, regular troops on it just don't look right.
TrevorOfCrete 0 Posted September 27, 2006 didnt one of those recent vids showing the editor use SF?
