I would have thought marines arriving would have meant some more bell utility helicopters and amphib vehecles, but I havn't much doubt that there is a beleivable scenario as mentioned - honestly I think if they have spent this long on the series they are well aware of what exists not to mention a reason as to why.

Who really cares anyrate, there are going to be so many campaigns with new vehecles There is undoubtably going to be new units and story lines released.

While the equipment choice may leave some disappointed, it's not really all that bad. I think the reason a lot of people feel this way is down to how far ofp has come since it's release. It's like a totally different game. BIS deserves a bit more respect than this, not many developers make a game so open. First of all wait and see what ArmA is like when it's released. Second, give it a year or so and think how far it will have advanced.

Not to mention quite a lot of the units in OFP now were added after initial release, such as the apache, the M2A2....etc.

I am perfectly happy with what we have right now and can easily expect more official addons to be released later on the same way...

perhaps we'll get more vehicles etc. when a new campaign comes out, or which i think would be better, the next installment of the main campaign, (which would mean the arrival of reinforcements before moving into North Sahrani), so maybe a few cards up the sleeves of the North Sahranis such as a hind or two, and maybe the marines arrive in greater numbers with a couple of amtracs etc maybe?

I'd be suprised if BIS released more content for the game after the initial release... why bother when the community will do it for you tounge2.gif

You ungratefull bunch. mad_o.gif You at least have to admit that they look good.

Remember the plot here. US were sent to the islnad to train a malitia, not to goto the front line. I'd emagine they would only takebare esentials so as to not upset the North.

Also at the time of the conflict the US are in the process of leaving the island, so most to the good stuff would be gone, leaving lesser vehicles behind for the time being.

I think the line up is fantastic and will force us to play the game and make do with what we have.

Because it would be official, the community add-ons are great and all but, if you look at it from the perspective of someone just getting into ofp/arma, it’s going to be real annoying for that group due to servers running single addons. They don’t want to be searching sites for a single tank or helicopter, making sure that it’s the right version and that it doesn’t need other addons to function. They just want to play.

Yeah, it is getting pretty customary to release bits and pieces after release dates. It's extra publicity.

Kind of missing a plane for east though, aren't we.

Are we going to start calling the sides North and South? smile_o.gif

OFP didn't include some of the vehicles in the initial release also, e.g.:

- Vulcan

- HMMWV

- Apache

- CH47

They have been introduced in updates (the Ultimate Upgrade 1 & 2) as well as in Resistance smile_o.gif

I am totally satisfied with the current with the choice of the vehicles included, and we'll also see enough versions of the missing vehicles / weapons / soldiers later.

[sarcasm] Yeah, there will be hundreds of campaigns and thousands of addons in a matter of weeks [/sarcarmA]

I can see it already, this t80 is overpowered, no its not, blahblah...

Arma should have a well thought base selection of vehicles from the start, atleast good enough so that:

a) MP without addons works well and is believable.

b) People can create realistic/authentic missions.

c) The game makes.. sense confused_o.gif.

And it doesnt so far. I know the game is in progress and they want to keep some surprises left but im far from impressed with the decision of mixing USMC and ARMY equipment together, this vehicle selection is a major step backwards and very disapointing.

I know they can do better and i hope they will..

i agree, but i just dont see it happening, or not at least to the extent of OFP... remember arma is here to tide us over to Game 2, which i rather BIS work on, than making extra content for Arma.

It's totally plausible to mix USArmy with USMC, it happens in unusual situations (happened in Iraq too... sometimes). I'm sure the US government wouldn't just let nearby Marines wait idly while their USArmy comrades get shot up (altough they did let the crew of a survaillance ship get tortured for years by North Korea).

What's bad is the Vulcan. That old thing is phased out. It wouldn't get sent to Sahrani no matter what. M113A3 is plausible too. Like it was said, backline US units still use it.

Since the main campaign is about how the US troops on the island get caught with their pants down, having a couple of those buckets isn't so far fetched.

But whats weird is how there aren't any USMC soldiers and vehicles, only aerial stuff. Some landing vehicles would be nice. Or atleast a Super Stallion with an nice batch of marines to jump out of it.

Let's not forget the most weird thing of all: the Hokum... how Northern Sahrani ever got one of those is beyond me completely...

BIS released the WWI Camel. Didn't mean that it was to suddenly crop up in the campaigns or anything like that. Just because there are screenshots of various units doesn't mean that they will necessarily appear in the main campaign. Just added content for our benifit.

I think this makes sense, im a bit tired.

I still can't believe that person actually thought the Camel was in the game to be used in the campaign. rofl.gif

It is there for the same reason it was in OFP:E,for an extra multiplayer unit.

Just I hope not to see a U.S Army Super Cobra or a USAF Harrier. crazy_o.gif

It could be as bad as the "USMC" Blackhawk of Battlefield II (They screwed it up very well) confused_o.gif

What we all probably should not forget is the fact that BIS surely does not want to over-stress that realism-factor. I remember an interview with Marek Spanel some months after the release of OFP. He stated, that the Cold War Crisis scenario surely was the motivation for most of the content in OFP but, for instance, they took all that stuff and placed it on an island like Malden, which does not allow any geographical parallel to a real-world theater. If they had intended to re-create an 100% realistic scenario, they would have probably located it in the former GDR (in German: DDR), what is today known as Eastern-Germany. That is one of the places where thousands of tanks would have clashed together. But in fact, this idea would have scared many people - including me.

The deal with the units is somehow the same, I guess. They just want to make the list of units realistic but not too much, in order to avoid a too strong identification, for instance: "Haha, this is the army of my country and I'm going to kick some bad-ass!"

Just some thoughts...

Just I hope not to see a U.S Army Super Cobra

Fat chance of that, since the Army doesnt operate Super Cobras (or Cobras at all for that matter)
