mr burns 132 Posted August 8, 2004 did anybody ever see "Gods and Generals"? i rented it, but never got around to seeing it. is it any good? the most horrible movie i ever got to watch... had to press stop button during the film because it was soooo boring, but maybe you like it, who knows  Definitely 'All quiet on the Western Front'. Old b/w classic but unsurpassed (the book's also very good). Second best: 'Das Boot'. Both focus more on the people than the war action - without all the patriotic bullshit most modern war movies (incl. 'Private Ryan', etc.) suffer from. Which is exactly what makes them so good.very good movies, i fully agree .. but stalingrad should´nt be forgottenalso steiner (the iron cross) is a good movie, though it´s long ago that i´ve seen it edit: still learning to quote
kavoven 4 Posted August 8, 2004 1)Black Hawk Down 2)Das Boot (The Boat) 3)The Hunt for Red October(Jagd auf Roter Oktober), I don't know if you can put it into the 'war movies' section, but I like it anyway

joltan 0 Posted August 8, 2004 Oh, forgot another VERY good one: Path of Glory (by Stanley Kubrik) - beats FMJ by lengths! Guess I have to edit my post above.
jakerod 254 Posted August 8, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Bunch of high school kids with hunting rifles annihilating VDV convoys and attacking their prison camps with seemingly non-existant casualties? They weren't all VDV. There were Cubans too and other Russian forces. I also remember one of their team members being executed (by them) one getting killed by a tank, 2 getting torn apart by hinds and 2 more dying in the final attack. Have to love the one part where they are planning the attack on the airbase/prison... Pilot: "We'll attack this flank here and put down grazing fire." Rebel1: "Whats grazing fire?" Rebel2: "And what the hell's a flank?" Pilot: "I need a drink" On-Topic: Black Hawk Down is another good one but there is that one part where the guy throws the grenade in the window from like 100 meters away and several stories up. Shashman 0 Posted August 8, 2004 What's wrong with patriotism? Apocalypse Now, We Were Soldiers, BHD, No Man's Land, B-2-0, to name just a few of the ones I really enjoyed.
BoweryBaker 0 Posted August 8, 2004 My favorite war movie would have to be Navy Seals starring Charlie Sheen or Rambo first blood part two or uhhh...missing in action starring Chuck Norris. Im a big fan of movies with interesting characters and i felt that in black hawk down the characters weren't made interesting, and you rarely got names except for if you did research but i felt the movie did little to make the individual characters interesting or different from one another. To the casual movie goer you might just have some guy getting blown up and you feel no real attachment even if he died for you it still wasn't enough. His name has to be imprinted in your head. Some might say well that guy in missing in action he wasnt much of a character, true, but he had an intelligent mind, though it was fiction. Edit: Now in band of brothers there were some interesting characters and it was a very good story. I liked it better than black hawk down as well. I also like some of the wold world war two movies with Harrison Ford or Charles Bronson. They usually include suspense with the action which is very cool. There is alot of suspense in sneaking around.

And i thought we were talking about war movies...how does Dehind Enemy Lines come into this? True its an intertaining movies but I would hardly say its a war movie. Konyak! 0 Posted August 9, 2004 One movie that hasn't been mentioned that I *really* like is: The Thin Red Line. It's just so wonderfully filmed and I think it has the best translation of the Flashpoint experience in a movie You feel their vulnerability and fear.. The others on my list would be: Beast of War, BoB, Private Ryan (same style really) Three Kings Konyak
Gadger 0 Posted August 9, 2004 Sorry but nothing comes close to Zulu. Â Quite possible the most moving song ever in it too, Men of Harlech, ahh pure genius. Never get tired of watching. I also advise to stay well clear of King Arthur, and go buy Excalibur, this film is fantastic!
m21man 0 Posted August 9, 2004 Black Hawk Down or Gladiator (It's kind of realistic ).
