Very Important Announcement from BAS

Recommended Posts

Omg..

I see it like this: good riddance.

What's good about BAS leaving the OFP community? rock.gif  I think it's a terrible blow.

well this world is never lack of noob m8

BAS together with others top class addon makers drives ppl to start chasing them, and even more - passing them, and thats one of the many reasons for our community to live so long, but many "kids" would just miss out this

You leaving sad_o.gif

This is really bad news, I have always been a fan of BAS addons and now it is the end sad_o.gif

Is there any option to have a comeback when OFP2 arrives?

Seems like some people are already choosing a replacment team to worship in place of BAS. I pity the team which gets half the amount of shit BAS did. And this shit mainly came from the people moaning and bitching

A) about incomplete addons (you would not be happy with becuase they are not complete) not being released then saying that they hated some of BAS's 'half-assed' addons. And if they did release them, let's not pretend for one second that after they went as far to release them, you would not bitch about them being half-complete, and then demand they finish them.

B) About the way in which people are sorry to see BAS leave, even though I suspect a large reason BAS wants to go is your bitching in the first place.

In 5-10 years time some of you are going to wake up to the kind of people you are, and I think the popularity of suicide is going to rise. Don't think there will be many good-bye threads for you either.

I still fail to see why immature people unfit to render a constructive opinion should be of anyone's concern other than a forum moderator's.

Fact of the matter is that teams like BAS (and DKM wink_o.gif ) have proven themselves by what they've delivered and the majority response is an obvious reflection of their talents.

Look at the 99/100 of the cup that's full.

Becuase I have to read pages and pages of complete bullshit to find 1-2 good posts.

Diamonds in the rough. wink_o.gif

Like I said, that';s what moderators are for.

And now with that lovely REPORT THIS POST TO MODERATOR link you have on the forums, you can get your sweet revenge. blues.gif

While the current BAS projects may have been placed on hold or even shelved, I know you guys will continue to be an integral part of the community for a long time, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your excellent work when OFP2 arrives. Your OFP1 addons are on the VERY short list of things I use every time I fire up OFP.

Thanks a bunch for all your hard work, and best of luck. Now get some R&R!

To all the whiners who are complaining and who think they are entitled to even more than what the BAS team has already delivered for free and at their own expense of time and money: go suck it up! mad_o.gif

Regarding incomplete projects, we will discuss internally and see what options (if any) we will exercise as far as releasing incomplete work to the community. I would like to reiterate, THIS IS NOT A PROMISE of release of incomplete work. However, we are listening to the dissapointment being expressed by the community in regards to incompleted project and we will discuss internally to see what we are prepared to do to alleviate some of this dissapointment.

I don't think that releasing incomplete worck would be a good idea. But like many people allready said, pass it over to competent addon makers or teams "could" be the answer.

I relie in BAS maturity to make the right decission, and whatever it will be I will respect it.

I think that I understand about the Seals, I was thinking what kind of features they could have to make it be Seals and make them be extremally different from the rest of your units, and at the second feature that came to my mind I thought, damm, no way, they must come to the engine limit point where no script has gone before. So it would be pointless to pass the Seals to another mod, at list CoC or Kegetys were going to work in them witch I can't really picture that in my head.

Well, at list now, without BAS, I will have time to concentrate in mission editing instead of playing like a little boy infront of the chrismas tree in Chrismas day. biggrin_o.gif

Have a good brake, do whatever you want, give your missus some TLC, be happy, because you allready made alot of people happy even if its only for just 5 minutes, it worth alot more than stress.

Good luck fellas, and good work.

Regards.

@CERO.

I´m agree with you

BAS,

What a good run you guys made for OFP, we will never forget how it all started with your littlebird's and how you finished things off with the mostly complete pavehawks. Your other unreleased projects full of ambition and excitement will leave us all with an empty feeling, since we never got to experience them. We can only hope that the many other talented individuals in this community will pick up where you left off.

May you make a speedy return to us. Best wishes to all of you at BAS.

P.S (If it's ok with you guys, i will release the desert pavehawk).

Did noone stop to think, (sry i havent read all 12 pages so someone might have said this)

maybe they should give their abandonned projects to other modern mods, so at least someone can finish them.

I heard The Caucus Crisis gave all their abandonned stuff to ORCS.

Makes sence, but it is your work to do with what you please... even if its nothing.

The BAS team has done some very nice work, but we must not forget that there are other incredible mods like DKM, I44 and RHS.

This isn't the end of ofp editing, and hopefully the full BAS team will be back for OFP2.

I have to say that I don't find this terribly surprising. I suspected that some of the BAS team members had lost "the drive" since there's been very little contact from the BAS team at large since early this year. There were some pretty lofty goals set for things like Tonal that never came to be, so that also made me wonder... Not that I'm criticising, mind you. Believe me, I know all about getting sidetracked and falling short of your goals (my config release is a week late as of today, for example. And about three weeks late last time. tounge_o.gif)

I any event, thanks, BAS. You were among the top tier of modders in OFP, and all of you really helped to shape the game and drive it forward. Unfortunately, this made people expect more of you than they should (or perhaps made them jealous since they weren't in the limelight,) but don't pay any attention to them -- the OFP community at large is thankful for your work, so just ignore the ever-present whiners. I hope that you won't let some of the obnoxious comments in this thread deter you from any future plans.

I do have a question, though. Does this mean that we will see nothing from BAS beyond the merc pack? I understand that you won't be releasing any more addons, but does this also preclude the possibility of ever seeing the end to the Insurgency campaign as well?

I'd also second (third. Whatever) the suggestion of releasing your unfinished addons to established teams capable of doing them justice.

Just to add my goodbyes.......

Its been great fun, especially PLAYING with the gear we produced in MP games.

Its been a pleasure to bring you rotorwash, fast roping, rope ladder pickups, CAS, cabin lighting, glowing fires etc etc etc.

Personally I havent even run OFP for several months now, having swapped pixels for somewhat more real firearms.

Damn makes you wonder... If BAS are "giving up" on OFP then i pretty much doubt anyone else will bother as much.

The Engine is old and doesnt allow people to do what they want

BAS have you thought about converting stuff to battlefield vietnam or something as that engine is way better than OFPs

anyway thanks for the great addons and looking forward to seeing what these mercs are gonna be like

Thanks -HunterKiller

why this whining now?

ofp commu != bas.

and this especially in the last months. as you can read here, bas was not very busy lately. so why should ofp commu die now? only cos bas made an official announcement that they stopped working on ofp1 addons? there are some really cool new addons out... and i can play with the so far released addons of bas and the rest of the mod making community until ofp2.

anyway it is sad that bas stops working on ofp1 addons sad_o.gif

thx much for what you guys have done. wink_o.gifsmile_o.gif

i agree. BAS gave up... so everyone else. . .lets all quit making addons now. BAS quit so we have to quit too. its not right that we made addons and mods while they sit and rest.

wonderful stratagy...

i dunno but you, but i didnt open up an Operation Flashpoint II box yet. I didnt pull the last $50 out of the bank to go out and buy it. matter of fact, last time i checked. OFP II wasnt even released yet. which means. .  wow_o.gif omg! we still have OFP I !!

so if you want to give up on the last few hardcore players that still have this game installed you go right on ahead. but there are certian modders out there like falklands, like DKM, like RHS, Y2K3, USCG, and various veitnam mods out there that arent about ready to give up on the community as you so suggest we do.

BAS have slaved over their PC's for 3 freaking years now. making addons for a somewhat ungreatful community. they have pushed addons to the limit, and kicked that "engine limit" right in the ass. i belive they earned thier pension, they earned the right to go " hey yall im retiring for a lil while".

you know when i started Y2K3 several months ago. . i was up at 7am working on the latest bug fixes, updates, and changes before going to bed. so are you saying that since i am a modder, i dont deserve to rest? i dont deserve to sleep for a few hours til i can change/fix something else? or am i suppose to put everything else in the world on hold to please YOU!

now, i feel lucky that my users are alot more mature and more understanding then most users out there, and understand the hardships and stress that modding can bring, and dont mind if it takes me an hour or a day to release an update. and i just wish that most of the BAS users would be more understanding of the fact that these poeple deserve this break. they deserve to kick back, grab a beer, pop in a porno, and enjoy thier freakin lives. weither they still play OFP I or not, who knows, if they do, then its good then can finnaly enjoy thier own work. if not. they deserve to have a life too.

you want my honest opinon on the whole matter? i think we should start up a collection, and pay for a night at the titty bar for each of the members as a way of saying thank you, enjoy your life until OFP II.

thats my story and im freaking stickin to it!  smile_o.gif

and if my opinion, and comments on this matter have in anyway shape or form insulted you, then you can kiss my furry white butt  tounge_o.gif

that's what i tried to express in 3 lines smile_o.gif

the sentence "...enjoy your life until OFP II." sounds a bit like a threat to me. like "enjoy your life now, but when ofp II is out come back and make some addons for us!" biggrin_o.giftounge_o.gif

I'm disapointed...no..disgusted that the suggestion to abandon OFP becuase a single mod has decided to take a break has been made. Do you think we are that less devoted to OFP? Do you think the leaving of ANY mod, however good, impacts what we do?

This is an insult to the devoted Mods, such as those listed in pappy's post. Let's not forget; many of us were working on addons before bas even came to exist, why would we stop now?

Am I going to write an eulogy or throw flamer clods? No, that's been done already.

But the two best things BAS did was 1) start a clear level of professionalism for the entire community and 2) show the community how to run a mod organization.

The original stuff that came out of BIS was great. But there was some equipment, and some features not implemented. The specs were maybe not what some people felt they should be. So guess what, folks tried to make them better. Thank you to BAS, and to everyone else who has tweaked and hacked to make stuff better. Despite all the crap the community dished out, I bet the harshest critic was always BAS themselves. I think when people start comparing addons like "we'll see if it is as good as the BAS...", I think that is in reference partly to the initial standard set by BAS. Will others make stuff even 'better'? Yes. Why the motivation? The same reason, to make the best quality addons, to the best of their ability.

What kept stuff coming out despite the community's crankieness and aggressive bug-hunting? The organization of the group. How did projects get completed, when you had people talented in different focus areas? Project management. How did projects of the shear size that were undertaken even get started? The mod organization. How many other groups look to BAS as an example to them of how to get started? There is a whole pile of stuff I'd like to do, but I can't do modeling or texturing, and I'm limited to a dial-up line. With a mod, I can do beta testing or what ever else I can do well, and help out in what ever way I can.

Personally, I think a lot of the reasons can be found between the lines in TJ's post above. I understand some of the reasons for the concern in development, and I want to say thank you. My thanks is that I want to learn from what you have done, and to make stuff too. The greatest thing you can do is not to make toys, but to make an example, and all of you have done that admirabley. Thank you.

One of the greatest things ever to hit ofp was BAS.  You have got to admit, there addons were top of the notch and they were the kings in the scripting business.  Making so much things come to like the helicopters and other things brought like to OFP that i've never seen before.  All the detail they spend making addons and then giving them to the community.  It'll be sad when they leave because it would have been awesome if they could have done more like created something that would opposed the bas soldiers they currently have.

Take terrorists for example  tounge_o.gif   You guys also brought so much god damned professionalism to the words "OFP modifications".......even with a small team you've held in there and brought us da shit.

If you want to leave i'm not going to really object against it.  They've earned there spot in the OFP1 Community and if they want to take a break now and wait for OFP2, i say let them.  You guys have earned it so, so so VERY much!  For the joy you brought to all of us, the addons that amazed us, that helfire that launched from that helicopter destroyed the bmp before it got my friends, brought me so much joy!

Thanks mates and.........Paz fuera de compaeros!!!!!

I decided to not post a reply but I'll do it anyway.

First, I must say that I really enjoy BAS addons and its sad such a great team will stop making addons for ofp1, I wish them good luck and a nice time off .

Secondly... Even if I enjoy BAS addons more or less i DO NOT treat them as gods/kings/leaders of the ofp community, because that would be a lie.

No one makes the best addons, everyone makes nice addons, so there is no need for bit**in and flaming the authors of nice addons, that's just lame. Thats a reason I and probably more people do not visit so many forums anymore

Dont ruin this community !

Go make some missions!

EDIT: CREDITS TO THE SMALLER TEAMS BECAUSE THEY STILL HANG OUT THERE !!! YOUR TIME WILL COME! smile_o.gif
