I think that this is the only thread on these forums where absolutely everyone has agreed about something.

Wow, last time I checked it was stationary at 75 signees.

At when is it planned to deliver the petition to the EGM people?

You mean when it is planned to inform them of the petition? We could do that at the end of January... tounge_o.gif

YEa they said that a while ago, nothing to do with a petition, tbh online petitions never get anywhere they only way a petition makes an impact if its actually signed on paper and delivered to there door with some publicity.

No, there was the Berlusconi thread a while back. smile_o.gif

I never saw that thread so I'll take your word for it.

Seems like we have over 700 replies. We should give it a few more days I think then have it submitted.

Even though we are not supposed to chat about other forums I thought I would fill some of you in. Seems like the opinions at the CS forums are more mature than we thought, maybe we should never assume they are immature again. At Elecplay and the IGDA forums there is alot of useful discussion on the subject especially at IGDA since it is industry folks who are tackling such problems with the gaming industry as a whole.

Thank you for starting this thread and collecting that enormous number of signatures for the petition! I really appreciate your work and your attention towards this matter (i'm a Russian). This act only shows that there are people who really care.

Talking about some people on flashpoint.ru who hate Americans i can say that there are idiots in every country (and the fact that they say sh*t about USA only proves their stupidity). Just stay calm when they say it and you'll prove yourself smarter.

I don't think its terribly smart move of Ziff David to threaten the guy who originally posted the disrespectful image.  Just apologize and let it go...

The guy who noticed this and brought it to our attention is Roman Stepanov (credited for work on Ghost Recon as the Russian Authenticity Advisor) and he has tons of contacts in the MVD and Russian military. He's contacting everybody he knows in Russia's armed forces, included the guys depicted in the photos, and the families of the fallen soldiers whose faces were covered up.

This must be one of the more moronic things I've seen. What are they, complete idiots? First of all, by now they must be aware of people's objections against the picture and threatening people won't exactly enlarge the number of their fans.

Second, Ziff Davis has stolen the intellectual property of the people who took the original picture. So they're not really in position to talk about stealing stuff.

I think the difference is that the photo of the soldiers honour gaurd was public, meaning that it probobly had no copywright to it in the first place. So it's not really stealing.

No, I think they purchased it from Getty Images.

Well the good thing is with Ziff Davis claiming ownership of the image it gives the survivors of the soldiers killed a clear place to aim their lawsuit smile_o.gif

yeah......by showing how heartless they can be.

hasnt that guy heard of "reasonable use" this means that images can be copied form websites and the person copying it cannot be arrested for copyright violation because it was reasonably used, and it this case it was......to let people know of the disrespect those guys did to Russian soldiers (and possibly ALL soldiers) everywhere.

the way i see it EGM have done a greater crime to the nation of Russia, and to all the families of the soldiers who'se faces were replaced, and im sure that the European Advertisement Commision wouldnt look too happily at the use of that image!

(sorry to repeat a picture but i must point something out to you

now read the bit in red, im pretty sure the edited image defaced the original one

Well the good thing is with Ziff Davis claiming ownership of the image it gives the survivors of the soldiers killed a clear place to aim their lawsuit smile_o.gif

if i was one of the honor guards pictured , or the brother of a victim , it would be a clear place where to aim my 7.62X54R bullet ...

no politics involved here, it's just that when i see these pictures of young men held by close friends , comrade in arms i think about my brothers , my little brother especially who is still in the army, i could really well one day have to be in the same situation as these boys , or he could have to carry my picture around ... i wouldn't be able to take that a picture taken during a ceremony of that kind would be modified for commercial , humourous or simple gap-filling purpose

i can imagine the distress and discontent of the people in question , but i hope i will never have to feel it as much as i hope i will never have to feel the loss of a relative or a friend in conditions such as Chechnya war or any war

all my thoughts now go to the famillies who will now have to endure this affront to the memories of their sons brothers and friends who died on the battlefield.

And now we know for sure they had to know the original content of the image, or they broke copyrights.

As you can see we should carry on the petition... wink_o.gif

This letter is self defeating, as stated before, they knew what was originially in the image, and therefore have lied about knowing what was there. These idiots (EGM) really crack me up.

Sincerely,

dont you think that having knowingly used a picture that replaced the dead soldiers of Russia with an advertisement is pretty disgusting, and frankly i would have thought you to know better, whether you hold copyright on that image or not..............the fact is you are severly disrespecting the fallen soldiers of a nation, how would you feel if a picture of US Soldiers killed in iraq were used to advertise a game guide, possibly even members of your family...........you would be pretty mad, in fact you would be furious and that is how many people who arent even russian feel about you posting that image.

i hope that the government and standards agencies come down on you as hard as can be..........and i also suppose that the russian government pretty much dont like you too,

Dont bother replying........i dont want to waste my time with heartless bastards and bitches like you guys ever again

as you can see the last bit was especially viscious.....but thats how my mind was workign, annyway this is the reply i got, she has apparantly emailed the guy she was threatening in that GUNS LLC thingy

Seriously though, After hearing that the magazine would post an apology i really thought this was settled. And then what? These EGM guys start threatening the guy who found out about this and simply informed others. I really wonder what this ultimately leads to.

edit: some minor stuff  smile_o.gif
