Arma 3 - APEX - NEWS and SPECULATIONS

Recommended Posts

These days I don't see how Bohemia could lock the terrain behind a paywall yet release a free 'demo' version that wouldn't end up being hacked to support 'regular' play enough to negate the effectiveness of the paywall in the first place...

My thoughts on the upcoming DLC and those who still haven't pre-purchased it

  • BI have always been good at allowing users to scale back the graphic quality of its games and add-ons to allow a range of players to enjoy the different maps. Case in point, as PC technology has improved, gamers have increased their quality of graphics in the Arma series. I enjoy much more eye-candy in Arma 3 than I did when first playing Arma 2
  • Pretty much its going to be all-Tanoa all the time server-wise when the game is released (aside from life-type game-wide mods of course).
  • Arma players need to look at their buying history. Are you the sorts that ends up owning all the DLC? If yes, you should pre-purchase for the savings or understand while the rest of us are raving about the new expansion, you'll need to wait for a sale to enjoy those same savings. If if its not about the money and you do own all the expansions, then just buy it! Its like arguing at the bar whether you're going to do that last shot of the night or not - just man-up and slam it back :)
  • If you're not the sort that buys all the DLC, asking a gaming company to fit into a never used box is like making a chef overcook a steak when you don't eat meat

Fan-boy alert!!!

  • BI are one of the few gaming companies that not only work closely with its player-base, they continue to improve on its product waaaaaaay after we've already paid them. Even add stuff we've asked for such as Zeus and Eden. This isn't the norm in gaming anymore and aside from sending the occasional case of beer (which is done often and again, rare in the gaming world) the only way to support and thank them is to buy the DLC's. Guess what, you get something for your money!

Finally, to those who haven't bought it, don't be the ones sitting on the cyber-beach who forgot their swimming trunks. Buy the darn thing so you join the rest of us in the warm, tropical Tanoa waters on day one!

Well "mustangdelta" having all DLC is not bad, it's always nice to have that full collection, it's like when you look at your bookcase and you got all editions. In my case I don't like to buy something before it's made for end users (especially if it comes from Ubisoft or EA). But BIS was always putting players first and I have no doubt that Apex DLC will live to players expectation.

I still haven't bought Helicopter and Marksmen, not because I'm "cheap", since I'm offline player I don't use them. I do got Karts for fun :) Maybe when it's on some sale. I'm also old gamer, when I started playing PC games you were offered demo as a promotion, testing game and your system performance. These days you have, Open Betas, even only paid OB (WTF), and if you want to test game after it, NOPE. Old habbit of trying before buying will never die. Again BIS never failed and offering free sample of product for everyone is not a bad idea, it's a simple promotion. I'll just wait for a release and hope for a trial period.

I am very curious about plot and enemies in Apex.

Me too.  I pre-ordered it already, even though I have no idea how the campaign will play in SP.  There's almost no way I'd pass up a BI jungle terrain, however.   ^_^

And, even though I complained   :o: about the paucity of SP combat missions in A3 DLC, I did finally end up buying the bundle when it was on sale.

Well there is hope, given BI had taken a trip to their MOCAP studio to gather animations for Apex's Co-Op Campaign. This, i can speculate means AI acting, not actually being able to silent kill people. We all know how buggy client to client sync is already, MOCAP would just make it more visually obvious.

Thank you for this, to be honest I dont even know why I waited this long. Purchased and very happy about it, thanks again for the pep talk, the extra push. I love BIS, I have loved OFP, ARMA for more than 75% of my entire life, I think its safe to say I am, we are customers for life.

Yeah, I'd be the sort that eventually ends up with all DLC :D

Didn't initially buy heli or marksman, till after I found out what the packs contained, and then I made myself wait for black friday/christmas sale just to save money. But Apex looks to be something far more major, so I was like, to hell with waiting for black friday, lets just get the 20% off pre-order!

Still wishing they'd share some more glimpses of some stuff, looking forward to the new toys I get to shoot and drive.

Well, Apex should come in June and there is Steam summer sale from June 16th. So, I'm not in hurry :D

the only thing im concerned about APEX is the amount of content.

Yes i know it will contain engine upgrades, but i dont want to pay 23,99€ to have 5 weapons and 7 vehicles for 1 new faction & 1 new terrain and a new campaign.

I assume that you are aware that new games / expansions are not discounted during Steam sales?

I agree, €24 feels like stealing from the devs, it's way too cheap. Most other devs would charge €40-50 for similar content.

You can always wait until it's released in June to pay the full price, €29,99.

yes its true, other devs arent that better, selling expansions for 40-50 euros is not better than selling 2 helicopters for 12,99 euros.

in the end, both are expensive but its not only about the price. Content affects fun and i hope this expansion will be like the A2:OA expansion.

29,99€ for possible small amount of content is even worse, makes them closer to the other companies who -as you said- sell content for 40-50 euros.

but lets hope it will be content rich.

The summer sale is a huge event and even new released games and DLC are on discount. BIS also gives discount during major events. Ofcourse it doesn't mean 100% that Apex will be on discount, but looking back at BIS and Steam sales, I'm mostly sure that it will be, but if it doesn't, bummer.

I've seen no sign that the Apex DLC by itself will have a greater discount than the existing 20%; the most we've seen in prior sales (both on Steam and on the BI Store) has been a 50% discount on the game and/or prior DLCs and a 20% discount on the Apex Edition, though the 20% discount on the Apex DLC is supposed to remain available all the way until release.

I don't think so.

1- What could this version add to the game?

2- During the early development of the game, this vehicle was already existing. Why would they add it only for the expansion?

3- I think that they're more focused on whole new vehicles types than variants of the existing one.

Well to be fair, we can see that the Rubber duck (Civilian rubber boat) is receiving a wheel. So technically, if they wanted to add in another variant of an existing vehicle, even if it's without benefit, there really is no reason BI wouldn't do it. After all, it is the... "Expansion", and their wording of such from the beginning has always made it seem like it's going to be BIG, and possibly "expanding" not just Apex alone.

Troll mode on:

25€ for 1 map?

That's a joke! With call of duty, it's 4 maps for 15 euros!

Troll mode off.

;)

hahahaha LOL

I bought A3 for ~22€ so I'm curious what can I/we get from DLC which is 25€. Now developers did work hard with lots of new FREE updates, so part of revenue from this DLC will go to "thank you" category for free updates. That is also not bad, they deserve it. I'm not buying it until I get more info what exactly will be included in Apex, like more concrete info and ingame shots about features of Apex. We all know general information, but Ubisoft and EA tough me to always be skeptical when comes to preorder. Now that same, let's call it "fear" is being transfer here on BIS. Yes I know, that is not a good thing.

Yeah don't buy it man I mean you can almost buy a new car with 25€ :D

On a serious note I can tell you one thing, since 2013( Arma 3 release) I bought many games and many times much more expensive but none of the other games is today installed on my computer except Arma.

And tell me other companies  with the same support as BI, easy NONE! I know I complain many times about the game performance but I even enjoy setting up a small scenario in the editor and have small skirmishes for an hour or so..

In the end it's your choice!
