Are you saying that jets, tanks, choppers, IFVs, APCs, MRAPs, quadbikes, 4x4s, transport trucks, SDVs and a huge submarine aren't enough for you? It is probably less that in the previous games, but what do you want, quantity or quality? Oh, and, Altis is the biggest map in the Arma 3 series.

I can only speak for my own and the people I play with, but we saw a great improvement going from alpha to beta with the animation updates and general multiplayer experience. After final release, the modding community can start doing their part of the optimizations in codes. We already know how great differences the server game modes can have.

There were LOADS of improvements on many fronts but most things were about making the game play better. Better animations, better physics, better effects, better everything really. Except for performances. I did not see a change since alpha personally. I'm not saying they grabbed their ass here, they released shit loads of fixes and quality of life stuff. It's pretty impressive work in fact. I'm only bashing performances, everything else? No complaints. I have preferences and wishes for some features sure, but nothing holding the game back for launch.

As for the modders helping with optimizations. They can only optimize their own mods and only in the scripting department. They can't do jack about the game's general performance.

People don't have access to the engine source code after all. Which is a good thing probably. :p

Edit: I'm talking FPS wise here. Audio performance now for example is incomparable to what we had during the alpha. Light years ahead.

Still less content than in ArmA2. Also it's a 'jet' and 'SDV'.

ArmA2 also had 5 sides and all were unique. ArmA3 has all sides sharing the same weapons and weapon systems.

It is probably less that in the previous games, but what do you want, quantity or quality? Oh, and, Altis is the biggest map in the Arma 3 series.

Let's see. Quality is very much the same except with higher res textures (comes with 2013 vs. 2009) - but at the same time cockpits are gone for APCs. And yet ArmA3 still has less content.

Altis? Yes it's bigger but it is also a desert-type island and is way less detailed than Chernarus.

Looking at your join date I assume you just forgot how it was in OFP :).

Oh I remember OFP fondly;-) Buggy, infuriating, beautiful mess that it was! But you kind of think things should be bigger/better with each game though.... especially in the 12 years...

As I have asked you before, I guess you have played on Altis then or are you just assuming this?

There's Stratis which is very much the same asset-wise and then there are also Altis screenshots and videos.

No, that's not enough for us. Why do we have to compromise on the quality or quantity? Why not have both? Over the years BIS has grown and became more successful, so both the quality and the quantity should rise. So sure, we got nicer interiors for non armored vehicles, and slightly improved models/textures, but we got less vehicles and weapons. Besides, many vehicles were recycled from A2 such as the Ka-60, Quadbike, MH-9, probably the Pandur and L-159 from ACR.

Plus, some APCs in A2 and in A2OA had interiors(AAV7 driver, stryker, some russian APC/IFV) while ArmA 3 doesn't them for APCs

And the huge submarine(which I don't even know if we'll getting on release due to no campaign), is not a functional vehicle, it's just a stationary campaign asset like the LHD from A2.

3 of the ArmA 2 sides shared the same weapons, even if you count out all the shared equipment between the Russians and the Chernorussian armies.

The reduced content is a direct result of the more complex unit customization and vehicle physics that everyone here was howling for.

And it's not like all the older, simpler units won't be AIA'd into the game anyways.

You know, creating higher res textures isn't as easy as up-resing them in photoshop, it's actually a huge undertaking to fill those extra pixels with content.

Please don't write off higher-res textures with a mere "comes with 2013 vs 2009".

I also have no idea where you get "less detailed" than Chernarus. All I see is it seems to have fewer forested areas, that's about it. Chernarus didn't have ancient amphitheaters or the like. Chernarus didn't have a noteable underwater environment either. Plus, we haven't even really SEEN Altis.

No, that's not enough for us.

Yes, it is. Maybe it's not enough for YOU.

Go and become a game developer with an actual budget and come back and tell us why unlimited quantity and unlimited quality are not a problem.

"...quantity or quality".... I'd pretty much like both please?

I'm looking forward to Altis but to be honest "the biggest map" thing just isn't doing it for me. So long as there's sufficient different terrain to enjoy different gameplay (tank battle, mass infantry, Combined arms, jet battle - I'm happy. Like a lot of people I struggle to find how weapons and vehicles that were okay to be demo'd earlier now can't cut it. I'm as big a BIS fan as most (hence sticking around for 12 years). I love what they do and I love what this community does in terms of mods etc and also helping push BIS in the right direction by feedback and (constructive) criticism.

What submarine are you talking about?

This one: https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/306995_230717000308371_8181905_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/250139_196648927048512_3186389_n.jpg

Oh, and I forgot to add: MV-22 Osprey (I don't know if you can consider it a helicopter), mortars, self propelled artillery, MLRSs, armed speedboats and assault/rescue boats.

Oh, and for those of you saying "there will be one jet", there will be at least 2 jets: the F/X-35 and the L-159.

That submarine is just a prop. It's not playable.

3 of the ArmA 2 sides shared the same weapons, even if you count out all the shared equipment between the Russians and the Chernorussian armies.

Not true. Russians had all those cutting edge tech available for their side. AK-10x, T-90, Tunguska. Their bros Chedaki OTOH had dated cold-war era tech like BMP-2 and Shilka. And then compare to US. Whatever similarities there were they were nothing like exactly same HMGs/GMGs installed on both BLUFOR and OPFOR (and even GREENFOR) vehicles down to a point where all 3 sides cars are basically the same with the same weapons and with even the exactly same amount of ammo. Now compare A2 Humvees with Chedaki cars. Or Russian BMP-3 to American LAV-25. And then A3 Marid to Namer. Both BLUFOR and OPFOR use 6.5mm caseless ammo in A3 of all things. All sides use the same reskinned SDV and underwater rifle.

The reduced content is a direct result of the more complex unit customization and vehicle physics that everyone here was howling for.

I don't see how complex unit customization and vehicle physics make all sides share exactly the same weapons and even loadouts. Physics programmers aren't making weapon models.

And it's not like all the older, simpler units won't be AIA'd into the game anyways.

Except the issue is with the lack of 'new' content.

You know, creating higher res textures isn't as easy as up-resing them in photoshop, it's actually a huge undertaking to fill those extra pixels with content.

Why don't you think it's possible that higher res textures are created first and then down-scaled to fit into memory limits? Especially when they are made from photos?

Gotta consider both options here.

Surely Altis is the biggest map in any PC game? How big do MMOs get and are they really maps in the same way Altis will be?

I seriously have to ask, are the grenade throwing animations going to stay? In the early alpha, it was said that it's still WIP but we haven't seen any improvements on it, except a cooldown so you can't throw a grenade every 0.1 sec but every 2 seconds...

We got improved animations for binoculars, but nothing happened on that part... but I guess, I already know the answer

I've answered this a few pages back. And before you go "no you must play on Altis first all screenshots, videos and information doesn't count" I will ask you the same question "how do you know it won't be less detailed despite all the info available"?

I don't doubt that Altis will be great since BIS always manages to create good environments and thankfully they didn't lose that talent thus far. But it still will be a desert-type island with no lush fields and forests.

Answering a question with a question, so from that answer you don't actually have any proof that Altis will be less detailed than Chernarus? Thanks for clearing that up for me and quite a few others!
