I don't have BF3 but in BF2142 I play either Recon or Engineer.

- Blowing up commander assets keeping him blind and obsessed with dealing with me

instead of paying attention to the battlefield.

- Clearing motion mines and APM's for vehicles and infrantry.

Sadly BF3 has done away with the overall commander, which is a step backwards I think...

And not many people care about clearing mines, I must get 3 or 4 anti-explosive ribbons a round for blowing up mines.

Although yesterday I had a particularly retarded gunner in my AAV, he kept yelling at me to "MOVE" and I kept telling him to destroy the mines infront of us before I would. He simply responded with another "y u no drive"... Retards...

- Marketing team changed the name to Rainbox 6 instead of Rainbox six after the new logo was made

Number one (1) on the list, something only the marketing team could possibly consider important or interesting, something nobody else cares about or would have noticed. Name is based on logo, instead of logo based on name? Well done marketing :)

This is why we have marketing, this sort of idiocy doesn't happen by itself. :)

Slightly OT

Yup the ads everywhere (and not just for this game but all things from channel 4od to maxi pads which help you rollerskate) are hugely irritating.

I for one rarely, if ever click on ads.

But in a cash driven society, I have a feeling were going to see more and more.

Anyhoo back OT

hmmm, at the mo skyrim just isnt grabbing me.

I cant put my finger on it, but just running around randomly in oblivion etc felt more fulfilling.

Its pretty, if a bit grey looking and reminds me alot of Scotland in many places.

Perhaps Ive been spoiled by game mods and am just not use to playing a vanilla game?

Well, Skyrim is home of the Nords and most definetly has a way colder climate than Cyrodiil.

Take it as an old germanic/viking tale of gods and dragons :D

Volume issue ... me too.

Solved it with this off the internet

best way to do this is go to 'playback devices', click the one you're using, head to enhancements and turn on 'loudness equalization'.

Well I searched for her all tonight but I didn't find her. Is she even more south than Helgen (The place where the game starts)?
.

Its quite a way SW of Helgen, its directly below Falkreath if you've found that. The place is called Angi's Camp.

And then imagine what BIS could do if they had Infinity Ward's budget...

Anyway, my point is that BIS doesn't rip you off with overpriced games that are worthless in a year. My brother tried to trade Black Ops in for Modern Warfare 3 and they laughed in his face. Call of Duty games are like Paris fashions - they only last a year until the next line is released.

Meanwhile, BIS doesn't charge an arm and a leg and creates a game that actually gets better with time.

Yeah considering the size of BIS compared to some of the more prominent game developers the progress they have made during the past decade is phenomenal. In many ways I'm glad that BIS are a relatively small company because they have always maintained a loyal and genuine commitment to the community while most other developers have sold out on us PC gamers to work on console titles.

BIS aren't the most profitable in the industry, but IMHO they are the most honorable.

So, I named my character Vermithrax. Does that make me a nerd? :)

Also, I played the default character, not a single change. I never really get into that whole uniqueify-your-character thing, and the only reason I would ever do it would be to play under different initial starting conditions i.e. character traits and abilities.

In fact, I would welcome a random character generator to play under, as long as I didn't need to play through the entire opening scenes again.

As my previous post may have suggested I'm a bit disappointed with BF3, as I am with the overall direction game-designers are heading at.

Granted I've only played BF3 a few hours, but sofar it has left me completely cold and I'm trying to figure out why. This should be my kind of game. The whole thing tastes saltless. Also I seem to have the opposite reaction to the features other people rave about.

For example the really big thing, destruction. In what way is this better than BF2 or any other game which had destructible assets? In BF2 you could blow up a bridge on the map and this would change the whole dynamic of the map forcing use of other routes. It really had an impact. The same was true for destroying enemy artillery or any other commander assets. So you can level meaningless buildings in BF3, who cares? Oh no, now there's less shade on the map, maybe my soldier will get sunburn? Why did they even leave C4 ingame?

Stuff like this really irritates me. They waste all that time and effort to be able to improve the use destruction as part of the gameplay and then they do jack-all with it.

Another thing, fluid movement. Are we even playing the same game? My player character gets stuck all the time on the most ridiculous things, like small bits of rubble. It almost feels like a gamble if the guy can jump through a window or over a fence. 3 out of 5 times he'll do it, but it's those other 2 times that really count. Because those are the times you'll get killed, while your hopping like an idiot in front of a tiny railing. I think people maybe confusing animations with fluid movement.

What happened to the promised huge maps? Compared to BF2 leveldesign the levels in BF3 are not even close to the same ... err ... level. It feels like all BF3 maps combined could fit in one of the larger BF2 map with room to spare. This wouldn't have been a problem if leveldesign was much improved, unfortunately that's not the case at all. In BF2 most locations felt more or less important either tactically or because of the vehicles that location offered. It felt the designers really tried to make each flag-point different and interesting and no 2 maps alike. That feeling is almost completely gone in the BF3 maps. There were single flag locations in BF2 with more options and routes then the maps I've played in BF3. Could be because BF2 was actually designed for 64 players instead of console numbers, which is what? 8/16 players. Btw I've even encountered two maps in BF3 sofar that are literally tunnels.

I'm wondering what they where trying to do with this game? Make a cg-movie but got scared of Avatar because it was just too awesome? Unreal 2004 with present-day looking weaponry and more limited movement? Don't get me wrong, the game looks and sounds nice, but it's just not BF3. I can't believe any of the creators of BF2 were even involved in this project.

Games used to be limited by hardware and resources and stuff like that, but now the limiting factor seem to be game-designers themselves.

I tried to find a good review on BF3 but noticed only the user-reviews seem to be worth reading if you ignore the moronic 10 score one line reviews. Are there any good game-review sites left?

Hullo

I agree with your criticisms, although I bought bf2bc after i bought bf3 I still find BF3 far superior "all round".

Yes, its odd the destruction is a step back and that some small steps are a struggle to get through and the map sizes are not huge (as i remember compared to bf2 all those years ago.)

but, there's something about bfbc2's mechanic I personally cant get to grips with, although that's probably me being useless at fps's. i am, however, liking the vietnam dlc.

Apparently they are bringing back the total destruction and larger maps in the Karkand dlc.

I do hope they do as id like to get the best of what ive heard about bfbc2 and bf3 all smushed together.

FPDR

I was kind of hoping after reading all that that the last line would be "- console exclusive" so we don't have to worry about the next crappy console shooter after BF3 and CODMW3.

Its already maxed out for me before i go into the game unless im missing something everything else is fine volume wise but skyrim needs to be all the way turned up.

Oh by the way whats with the shitty GUI in this game, You cant change the resolution in the game and theres hardly any resolutions to choose from that work on my monitor i believe its 16:10 native res is 1680x1050 but thats too many pixels for my GPU to render im having horrible FPS in Riverwood and really sharp FPS drops like 60 to 15's and 20's all the time, so i stopped playing and went on Red Dead. PC version like always utter bullocks.

@Orlok, joe is talking about Bf2, not BFBC2...There is a huge difference...

@DualJoe: agreed with most of it. The maps are smaller, and it feel that the distance between objective is just tiny. Not really need to grab a vehicle and get to the next flag (on the "conquest big" maps)...

Besides, the whole things is just a liniar thing to play. Yes, it might be good for a 30mins game (exactly what i am using it for atm), but on the long run, any maps feels and plays the same: respanw...kill...die...respawn...kill..die with very little you can do to actually change the course of the battle, even when having a few friends playing with you in the same squad and on Ts...

when i read this i thought, that's pretty much the lot of the average soldier. so ironically bf3 may represent the futility of war more appropriately than most people realise.
