CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."

Recommended Posts

Again, the name will attract more hate from our community, and specially, from the hardcore PC gamers.

They should have learn that at least with FPDR .

It's a proof that they are already thinking in the console world and they don't give a damn to PC gamers.

From a completely unbiased, not caring about politics or loyalties etc im hoping that this new CM DR product can deliver something that i can enjoy, and thats an editor that competes with armas.. but researching other forums and threads i see thats probably not going to happen. I wish they (or anyone) would go head to head with BIS and compete for this niche market (being us). Competition produces a better product.

And that niche is even smaller for me, as i dont care about either campaigns or MP, my only interest is the editor and the freedom of setting up my own scenario's, the ability to do that has me completely addicted to Arma.

The way i see it, both developers have it wrong by 'not' promoting the editor as the main draw card, maybe like adobe promoting a gallery of art instead of the program that created it, photoshop.. maybe not exactly but thats how i feel about it.

OA finally released here today, so of to the store to pick up, along with DR from the bargain bin, gonna be an interesting weekend comparing the editors.

And Mafia2 out soon, the perfect break from Arma.

I don't think that competition is always good. Sometimes yes, it can helps to obtain a better product. But that's not granted, specially, in our economic mayhem.

well you gonna be suprised of how polished a BIS product can actually look when being released. I shouldnt say this but OA is a bit like a different solar system from ArmA2

Really?

I suggest you to return in time a bit more... It was supposed to be the definite Arma killer and real replacement of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis / Resistance...

I was talking about the concensus that the players with a healthy amount of cynicism had. Not about the official PR bullshit in magazine interviews or press-releases. If you believed all PR that blindly you could probably argue that COD:MW2 was supposed to compete with Arma too.

Yep FPDR

COD:MW2 can compete with Arma in the same way as being stabbed competes with fish, chips and a pint.

Can you clarify this a bit? I'm not sure I follow. It sounds like you're saying that jaded forum people are a better resource than a magazine, but I'm not sure how.

I agree about that (some) competition would be nice. I already think BIS is doing a good job, so dunno how much of a harder time I'd want to get them. On the other hand competition might - if nothing else - trigger some new inventions or features to stay on top.

The quoted text however. No. Just no. Even if we totally disregard from that FPDR carried the Operation Flashpoint brand the business ethics of Codemasters is so terrible (the fact Sion Lenton isn't skull-marked in the entire game development world is a good show of that. One doing his job that poorly at a that high position shouldn't get away. At all) that they don't deserve peoples' money. Period. By giving them money anyway we encourage them to keep their terrible act up of killing what is good with gaming, just like Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. Looking away from such facts is what keeps the corporate asshattery of the destruction of the gaming world afloat.

I welcome some competition, but it should bloody not come from Codemasters.

I guess we know which franchise they're going after if Sion is twisting morality to put down MOH, though.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sir_polaris/2746843045/sizes/o/in/photostream/

This is a preview from 2007 for Dragon Rising:

To quote:

THE LOWDOWN:

+ The most realistic war simulator ever

+ 220 sq. km of practically true-to-life environment

+ Insanely complex weapon and vehicle design

+ Remains true to the Flashpoint vision

- Not being made by the original developers

But yes, it looks like they never made it in the end and that Red River is probably no longer striving to compete directly with the original OFP or Arma series.

(btw: rest in peace, PC Zone...)

This made my day.

Ughhh after the farce that was DR im amazed they are even going to try release another game under the OFP name, from what ive read on their forums its going to be yet another shameless console port that woo's the retard generation.

I mean :

-- Join in Progress ..., how they gonna do that without dedicated servers? Does anyone kno0w of a P2P game that has JIP?

-- Larger Urban Environments than the previous game :

Rofl they couldnt get much smaller than DR now could they lololol

--PLA to return along with Insurgents :

LOL an excuse the regurgitate the PLA from DR heheh

--Radial Menu System [iGN] *NEW*

New ( ???? ) radial system ala BF2 rip off?

Weapon Assists [iGN] *NEW*

Oh dear Sticky aim for the retards

-- Weapon Loadout

*NEW*

LOL welcome to the 1990's

Not to mention the stuff thats NOT in it thats been confirmed...

# PVP (Person Vs Person) Multiplayer [OXM]

WTF? seriously no pvp at all? at the risk of sounding repetitive....

WTF!

# Helicopter Piloting [OXM]

no Heli piloting by players? ... again W..T...F

# Bodycount style destruction

No destruction physics? This new 2.0 ego engine sounds 31337 ROFL

# Medic Class

*NEW*

No medic class eh.... hiding behind a rock and letting your health regenerate maybe hehehehe.

Damn this is gonna be a worse carry on than DR was shameless attempt to be a mw2 style game for the zombie parade....

Reminds me of the Noob Effect yet again.

n7VAhzPcZ-s

Just shows me that code ( not so ) masters has no capability of any real innovation or creative thought.., really i honestly cant believe that people over there are going to fall for this pig swill once again... Jeeeeez.

BiS seem Godlike compared to this codies crap they keep wanting to churn out.

BIS have done an amazing job, more than amazing... if they feel they have reached the pinnacle of this title then id still be very happy and will still be playing in the editor for a few more years to come, Competition usually forces your A game, makes you play that little bit harder, good competition anyway... i guess the boys up at BIS HQ are not too worried about what CM is up too these days, i think i hear them chuckling from here, maybe the odd glance over their shoulder.. but they pretty much got the sim/shooter sewn up for now.

And although they do not have Operation Flashpoint naming rights i think the whole gaming community not just this one understand that CM does not equal OFP, i try to understand the hate and the closest i can come to is if Australia put the silver fern on their jersey or vis versa for them.

Im at least curious though...

Why ruin a perfectly good jersey?

if they go this route and make it more easy to play then they gotta add something no one else has like co op with 8, 16, or 32 people or a mission editor

One of the comments from CM forums. They surely know their target audience.

like co op with 8, 16, or 32 people or a mission editor

this line fail so much that one FPDR just wont enought, even for console(which have OFP:E, which cames with an editor, which can support CO@32mission if I remember correctly)

Quoting from pcgames.de:

Wir planen, mit der Serie eine neue Richtung einzuschlagen, ohne Operation Flashpoint-Veteranen zu vergraulen.

"We plan to go into a new direction with the series without scaring off Operation Flashpoint veterans."

Mr. Lenton doesn't get it, doesn't he? 4 player coop mode ... again. How could any clan/squad could play this mess? US Marines and Chinese Army are going to be recycled.

"Generally, the impression I get is that 90% of people that played the game loved it. They thought it was something different but felt that it was really hard, that it was slightly obscure and difficult. 10% of people didn't think it was hard enough. Out of every million sales, the people that I want to get the game right for is that 90%."

:icon_dj: They loved to hate it.

Seriously ... they should stop using the title Operation Flashpoint for that game and nobody would complain. Maybe we should donate and buy the name back :p So BIS could create Cold War Crisis II - The Revenge of the Dentist :D

Lol, Sion. You ruffian.

Oh, and more renders:

Source.

Looking at that picture the dam reminds me of the Hoover Dam. Guess Codemasters might also jump on the "America under attack" bandwagon.

I look forward to Homefront.

Edit: Bah, already linked by gulag. Check out those character drawings, especially the obvious MW2 ripoff. :D

4 player coop because the guy likes L4D, no PVP because the war in Afghanistan is still goin on.. no helicopters? Why even call this game Operation Flashpoint?

To milk the fanbase. ;)

Wait what? No PvP because of the war in Afghanistan?

I'm sorry, but MOH is doing it and there hasn't been a backlash.

I guess it's okay to shoot Tajikistanis in the face, but not American soldiers, in a video game...
