SWT_Janowich 10 Posted April 13, 2010 Screenshot from a regular tuesday (Note: T u e s d a y ! No weekend!). (The first one does have 92 Players) At all were 1293 players online So why are people claiming that ArmA does not have a lot of players online? Cut the chatter! LeftSkidLow 1 Posted April 13, 2010 It looks like you must be playing when all the Europeans are on, unfortunately it isn't quite as good if you're trying to play when all the Americans should be on. That said, I've been somewhat surprised by the number of players. I'm used to OFP, Resistance, and ARMA being really popular for 6 months then dieing off for good. There was a few months in ArmA2 where there weren't too many choices for populated servers during Pacific Time weekdays but it changed for some reason. ArmA2 might actually be increasing in players online as time goes by. I'm thinking the steam release and ACE2 quickly releasing their mod has helped. When project reality is finished I think we will see a noticeable increase in players.
Tankbuster 1744 Posted April 14, 2010 It is Easter holidays in most Christian countries. That always brings the gaming population on line.
qwertz 10 Posted April 14, 2010 In the US (evenings/nights), the ArmA 2 online population is peaking around 350 these days during the week.
Tonci87 163 Posted April 14, 2010 I guess the reason why so many People are complaining about nobody playing online is that they get kicked off the Server because of missing Addons. We play with ACE on our Server and we can see people trying to connect without ACE all the Time. Soem of them repeatedly up to 10 Times or so....
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted April 14, 2010 Yeah, we even have "ACE required" in the description field, and still a lot of people tries to connect without ACE. We took it off the public grid.
jblackrupert 14 Posted April 14, 2010 Website with instructions and links to download + web address in server name. That could help.

The addons are an annoying thing, they definitely should let people list them properly in a seperate window or something because there are times I've connected to a server without the ACE tag attached to the name and I've stll gotten booted off. Well then they don't deserve to know why they were kicked. What do they expect, someone to call them on the phone and explain in details
walker 0 Posted April 14, 2010 Hi all The addons solution is simple. BIS should start using something like Yoma's Addon Sync. Until then players can Go here: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/yoma-addonsync2009 Download the latest addon Sync. It does all the downloading for you! Finding a place to play the easy way with Yoma's. You can browse hosts using Yoma's now so this is the easiest way to find places to play : 1) Start Yoma's. 2) Maximise the window 3) Select the Find Servers tab 4) Press search it will take a little while to populate the table the first time. 5) Increase the width of the mods field so you can see it clearly 6) Click the Play field title (short for players) you may have to do this twice so that the server with most players is at the top! ;) 7) Find one you like the look of; and double click it. 8) The Yoma's ArmA Launcher will start 9) You may need to update your addons if you have not played on that particular server for a few days, or before. If not then just skip to 10) a) Select the Download Addons tab. b) Press the Check for addons link. Let it find what addons you need. c) Then press download addons; this can take while if it is MOD you do not already have like say ACE, as it is downloading thousands of new aircraft, soldiers, weapons, tanks, vehicles. With some mods you may be downloading whole islands. d) If it is more than 80 mb So go make a cup of coffee/pot of tea and read the newspaper. e) Once it has all downloaded you may also have an option to remove old files, I general say Yes to this. 10) Select the Launch Game Tab 11) In the bottom right hand corner press Launch ArmA. 12) Yoma's will automatically launch ArmA with the correct Mods for you. :) Not just addon download and launch Yoma's is windows based tool and has lots of other features like: i) an advanced search function, including a friend finder ii) various table ordering views in the Find Servers tab. iii) A listings of who is playing on each server iv) Yoma's can be used even be used by server admins to update a server repository from a central source. Kind Regards walker

Kind Regards walker Well the solution is not so simple. If people are unable to read and understand a single line saying "ACE mod required" you think they are able to follow a 12 paragraph solution? I guess for most of these people it's even asked too much to install Yomas tool, let alone adding an url to it (or waiting for the ACE Mod being downloaded). :) Impatience and inability to read is the problem here. Tankbuster 1744 Posted April 14, 2010 We play with ACE on our Server and we can see people trying to connect without ACE all the Time. Soem of them repeatedly up to 10 Times or so.... The reverse is true too. Neither of my servers run ACE, but we get joiners all the time with vast addon strings, always with ACE. They get booted because they don't have a different required addon. The problem comes when they have the other required addon, the H53 pack, they can then connect but their ACE install causes dozens of errors and requesters for the other clients and usually crashes the server. Hi W0lle Hi allThe addons solution is simple. BIS should start using something like Yoma's Addon Sync. Until then players can Go here... Use of bold in quotes to emphasize what I saidInfering that BIS need to pull their finger out with regard to including an auto download of Mods in the ArmA MP browser. Also 12 numbered points are not 12 paragraphs. :) I am not bothered about peoples impatience most of the time and yes I think for some people a numbered to do list is what works. For others a technical solution like sixth updater is best. For others who like wondering around in the guts mod folders and shortcuts is the way. I have used each method. After telling many new players of ArmA how to start up ArmA and use mod folders I have come to conclusion through experience that Yoma's is the easiest tool. For most them they grasp it instantly. For some they need a numbered list. Others need their hands holding. People are all different. Being kind costs little and makes the world better. Writing a numbered list like that costs me even less, perhaps 10 minutes of my time, I can spare that and if I have to tell 10 new players how to do it all by holding their hands and I can get rid of more than 5 of them by pointing them at a numbered list I wrote just once; then I have saved myself a lot of time and effort. Whoatherefatty 10 Posted April 15, 2010 Tc, mw2 and halo 3 have around 100,000 users at any given time on 360 alone. It's sad but true. Arma online is barren and the addon situation doesn't help.

ast65 10 Posted April 15, 2010 What´s really fuckin me up is the fact, that the community is totally split in ACE/ noACE users. Feels like like beeing in the middle of a religious war:j: Last time i accidentally joined a noACE coop server with my shitload of ACE2 mods and got directly banned for it, wtf?
Zipper5 74 Posted April 15, 2010 Indeed, that is a huge issue for me, and is really, really making me lose all respect for server admins with the measures they're putting in to place to enforce it. It's simply ridiculous.
andersson 285 Posted April 15, 2010 The reason for getting banned sound harsh, but when you have a noACE server and people join with ACE they can crash it. I guess thats why they banned you so you dont try again, maybe not fair to you but some players try over and over and over again to get in and banning is one simple solution to get then to stop trying. I'm not saying that you are doing it but you probably ended up banned because the admin was dead tired of people with ACE trying to join. Its not "sides" like in a religious war, its just no incompability and ACE need a ACE server else a crash and game ruined will follow. What would be nice to have is the ability to stop users without and/or with certain addons, preferably with some popup message explaining what addon they need or cant use. Pretty please BIS? sickboy 13 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Certainly not dead no http://updater.dev-heaven.net/stats/history :D Server overview below the mods: http://updater.dev-heaven.net/main (This counts only dedicated servers btw) Re Mod incompatibilities causing crashes; This is something BI should really fix imo :) But on another note, many problems can be prevented with a little work. You could for instance completely ban ACE mod from yer server (or any other mod for that matter) How to disallow ace mod on my server (end of the page) Edited April 15, 2010 by Sickboy
jonneymendoza 10 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Well then they don't deserve to know why they were kicked. What do they expect, someone to call them on the phone and explain in details  i remember in unreal tournament if you diddnt have the mod you can download it right then and their from the server your trying to join ---------- Post added at 09:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:59 AM ---------- Also, Bad company 2 on the pc has nearly 100k users online. 3k of users online in this game is still pretty poor. when i come on online i usualy onlys ee about 5 servers that have over 40 players online. toss in the fact that people in public servers dont even work as a team and how in bad company 2, a lot of the public servers do have people working as a team is imo shocking for a game called arma 2 that suppose to thrive on team work. In bad company 2 you get rewaeded for team play ie healing, supplying ammo and fixing vehicles. In this game i dont see no points rewarded for those sorts of things. Had points be rewarded, it would make public servers a lot more fun to play in. O and what about pvp? none existant in most servers. Tankbuster 1744 Posted April 15, 2010 Last time i accidentally joined a noACE coop server with my shitload of ACE2 mods and got directly banned for it, wtf? The problem is ST, that (information correct last time I checked) players with ACE2 who join a server without it can cause a lot of problems. I've never done it, but I can see why, to protect their server and players some admins will ban ACE joiners. ---------- Post added at 07:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:20 AM ---------- In bad company 2 you get rewaeded for team play ie healing, supplying ammo and fixing vehicles. jonneymendoza 10 Posted April 15, 2010 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has almost half a million people online a day, if not more. :D exactly. 1000+ is not alot of people. like i said, bad company 2 on a bad day has over 100k. Hardly anyone plays this game and it is a damm shame. Lack of advertisement i reckon plus the slow pace approach of this game. a blooming shame as when you play this game with people u know with comms, nothing beats it and i mean nothing.
