What gun are you using (And why)

I really miss the M16A4 Iron from A1. I got 500 meter headshots with that baby!

Mostly the DMR, I'm a fan of the XM8 but I get tired of shooting people 4 times to put them down.

In ArmA2 i didnt really have a favourite weapon, for soem reason i suck with all of them.

Only the DMR is somethign i often use as it often leads to one shot kills.

Weird, in OFP first thing i did was grab a AK74 and then it was go time with pretty easy kills on distances where i only saw a few pixels of a enemy.

In ArmA2 i cant hit a haybarn somehow, possibly related to me zooming in all the time... but without i cant see sh*t especially on things like the AK ironsights.

But with the cobra i suck even more somehow.

Sorry that I have a love for Russian weaponry and engineering.

Then don't say it like it's fact. (For the record I love AKMs) I just don't want people running around screaming USSR or USA FTW. They each have their strengths. Russia's just isn't in the engineering department ;)

When looking for the punch at farther distances the gunpowder needs to be upped. Example: 5.56MM x 45 grain gunpowder. Not that powerful. The US Army also has a 5.56MM x 77 grain round that is much more powerful (for sdm). Maybe someone could script that in.

I prefer to use a M4 with any optic. The 249 with collapsable buttstock is nice as well. Has great control

Vanilla BIS: M16A2 Iron Sights

The optics just get in the way, esp. the ACOG in any close encounter.

I prefer the M16 to the M4.

ACE: M16 ACOG

Best of both worlds. :D

I try to equip realistically. M16 if USMC, M4 if US Army. If rifleman I'll grab a scoped version, if not (i.e. AT specialist w/M136) I'll settle with an aimpoint. If we do "old style" maps, I'll do iron sights even if crate has everything modern.

But I usually pick a AR/MG slot if available. For AR I usually go with the non scoped M249 SAW (the ACE Para version tends to have too high dispersion). For MG, I'll pick the scoped one if I'm solo and the non scoped one if I have a buddy as assistant (with binocs). If I'm the assistant, I'll grab iron sighted M4/M16 and binoculars and plenty of M240 ammo and smoke, not planning to shoot much except protect my gunner.

If I'm team lead and expect to go up front, I'll grab the vanilla M4 ACOG which has the backup iron sights in ACE.

I wish more people would consider equipping realistically than equipping to the best advantage. Few missions use the DMR realistically, and I think it should be banned from many missions like Domination etc (I can feel a spanking coming up :D). Even if something is exploitable, doesn't mean you have to use that exploit... For me it's come to the point where public Domination just isn't all that fun anymore.

jeah,

the DMR is my all time favorite, in close combat my friends came with m4, m249 and i´ve got some free time or let the 1911 speak for itself.

on the russian side i really like to play with the aks/aks gold(anticamo!) so light, and a one shot killer up to 300m, and a pkp for long range in vanilla or the good old dragunov.

I don't know where to begin with all that is wrong with this post. I will say though that this type of thing almost always comes from someone claiming to be a combat vet. It's cute.

I'm definitely not a combat vet, but i know that a standard .223 has a 55 grain load. Other factory loads are 62, 75, 77, while 77 seems to be the safe maximum load.

Usually in regular infantry skirmishes i use M16A4 M203 RCO or AK-107 PSO with single shot mode.

Why ? Because of the optics.

I just hate ACOG or HOLO. I rather use ironsights over them.

Nice to see somebody else who equips himself realistically.

Here I always go engineer (I only play warfare) then I get M16A4 w/ ACOG 6x 30 rounds + 3 smoke grenades (2 white, 1 red) red for signaling a landing or an enemy position or something, and the whites for retreating or assaulting.

Not to mention the 5.56x 1000 Grain round. I've heard from reliable internet sources that it can punch through t72 armour like paper! Unfortunatetly they are suppressing its use for political reasons.

Oh and I like the akm.

I have been playing the ARMA series for about 3 years now and I have always chosen the M4A1 with CCO (AimPoint) over the rest. Why is this? The weapon, for me, is universal. It can be used for longer range engagements of up to about 500Meters with deadly accuracy. It is ideal for close quarters battles in towns and such. Why Aimpoint? I prefer Aimpoint over ironsight and holographhic because it has a dot showing where the bullet is going to go without all the extra designs and distractions such as the holograph.

So in conclusion M4A1 with ironsight or M4A1 CCO

Seriously, I would like to gear myself up realistically too if the number of enemies that we meet in every mission are "realistic" as well. :) In RL, nobody expects a single soldier to take down 50 enemies or more. In fact, when I was in infantry school, my instructor told me that we only assault a position only with at least twice the force of the enemy. Meaning, it takes 2 to safely kill one, not one to kill 50....hehehe. In most missions made for ArmA2, getting into action with only 1 contact rate means picking up an AK very very early in the game.

M16A2 M203. Ironsights and 40mm grenade launcher attachment can kick so much butt. Alternatively the PKM since it's accurate to about 800-1000m.

i like the ak 47/74/107 generally, i like the openness of the sights.

but my all time favorite is the SVD cammo, especially in ace because you can adjust the elevation/windage

I agree

In warfare, seriously, what little town has 6 armed pickups and a platoon to support it?!

I was always under the impression that 'grain' in that instance referred to bullet weight, ie. mass of the projectile, not charge size or weight of powder.

As for my personal weapon of choice, using A.C.E, the XM8 Sharpshooter and a few C-Mags, couple of bandages, some smoke and 2 of those S.L.A.M thingies .

Nice accurate single shots for medium>long range shots, very accurate 3 rnd burst for when one just isn't enough and insanely accurate short range full auto suppressive fire capability....thats what the C-Mags are for.

No bi-pod, but weapon can be deployed on walls or when lying prone.

When I think about it, I basically use it as I would a SAW most of the time, and switch to the single rounds when more precision is called for.

The SLAMs are just to satisfy my nasty-sneaky-bastadge side :) A bit of a stab in the dark sort of weapon if used anywhere but a road or gateway, but a good source of giggles all the same.

Playing Domination my plan is usually play as an engineer, grab an M-109 and rangefinder, find an elevated position with an escape route and good cover, shoot the tyres off the first BTR-90 I see, watch the crew bail, let my AI buddies deal with them, repair the BTR and run amok with it :)

When trying to play realistically, I generally go for the GPMG of whatever side I'm playing on. Happiness is a belt fed weapon after all.
