Operation Arrowhead: The questions and answers thread

Recommended Posts

Can the AI still aim/Target through trees ,bushes,houses,mountains...

Jennik: Nonsense

Teehee. :D

Though a shame he didnt explain this any further, would have been better to get this idea out of the world properly.

I would have like to see the question 'will the soundtrack be just as awesome as the OFP/ArmA2 soundtrack'?

Well, guess ill just have to buy it, didnt need much convincing. :p

Ok Wolle, here are a few questions:

Will the owners of Arma2 get the "addon" cheaper? Or will there be a way to return Arma2 for lets say half of the price, cos it will be nearly obsolete and outdated with the release of the addon?

Can we expect another rushed, bugged release without possibility to play a campaign in the unpatched stock game?

In case OA might be heavily bugged, will it mean that patches for Arma2 will be developed at a slower rate, cos the new main title will have a higher priority?

Question for Mr . Wolle.

I know the status at the moment refecting the Release Date of Arrowhead is described as "Release when Ready."

Would you be kind enough, to let us have a clue,.. whether it is closer to 2009 or 2010?

I somehow, somewhere was led to believe, that it was always Bohemia's masterplan to upstage the release of OFP-DR. Hence the name 'Operation' in the full name of Operation Arrowhead.

I think maybe the status of "Release when Ready" is more of an anticipation for whether Dragon Rising may incure more delays. I believe bIS do not want to shoot all their load before the battle even begins.

Would I be mistaken in making any of these assumptions?

Lol, I guess there's still time for more questions?

Very well:

Does BIS plan in releasing any sort of public beta for Arrowhead prior to release (similiar to the beta builds for ArmA 2)?

Will there be a demo?

@Zothen

There is one price for everyone. How much that price is, I guess no one knows that right now.

As for returning it. This is the developers forum. Have you bought your copy directly from BIS? I doubt it, so go and discuss that at the place where you made the deal.

As for releasing patches for ArmA2 after OA has been released, I guess we will see. But if ArmA2 gets the same funtionality like OA in a patch then I don't see why patches should not be released simultaneously or with only little delay. However I have no idea either, we can only wait and see.

As for the releasedate, if I must guess I would say more like 2010. It surely won't be released next month.

@KS

It's still under development, I doubt those questions can be answered yet.

Why would you want to return ArmA 2? All of the USMC stuff that's in the game won't be included in OA. Also, they're going to continue patching vanilla ArmA 2, but probably not so much that the OA content is included. Bottom line: get both games. That's my take.

No it wont, Arrowhead wont include Arma 2 content, like islands, campaign, missions, units etc etc.

:p No rush on that.

Still, they must have some idea on this (even if it's subject to change).

On the topic of 2010 releases, any chance it might be released during January 2010? It'd make for a hell of a pastime during winter break from school? :D Don't mean to sound pushy, but that'd just be freaking fantastic...

For those asking for a release date, all major game sites have it TBA for 2010.

Well, now that Arma2 is reduced to a beta version and OA will be the full game I wonder how much players will still play Arma2? Or other way around - why should I need Arma2 any longer when most players and modders might stick to OA? It seems that most new features will not be included into Arma2, too. Well, we dont know what might happen, so just assumptions yet...

Yes sure just send your copy to BIS HQ and they will send you a cheque on 1000$ even if it's a pirate copy :)

Can we expect another rushed, bugged release without possibility to play a campaign in the unpatched stock game?

Yes main goal of OA is to piss off as many people as possible because we don't care about our customers as we got enough money already ;)

In case OA might be heavily bugged, will it mean that patches for Arma2 will be developed at a slower rate, cos the new main title will have a higher priority?

BIS have already stopped working on ArmA 2, as it's already obsolete :yay:

Feel free to ask more questions, i'll be happy to answer them the best i can, and remember not to read on the forums as you might find valuable information.

Because if you keep ArmA II you will still have:

USMC Units

CDF Units

Chedaki Units

NAPA Units

Russian Units

Chernarussian Civilians

Chernarus (South Zagoria)

Utes

If you don't keep it then all of that is gone.

Like I said previously, ArmA 2 is the USMC + Russian experience, OA is the US Army and (insert enemy faction here) experience. I don't think one can really replace the other. Each has its own uniqueness and such. You won't get the original ArmA 2 stuff just by buying OA. But yeah, I agree it's a bit too early to guess what'll happen with the modding community, though Jennik's suggestion that this'll be like OFP Resistance means you can use that to (VERY loosely) predict what the modders do.

Will they somehow automate the inlcusion of ArmA II content for those that have it to encourage people who own it that Arrowhead will be just a huge expansion pack for them?

Jennik: This is difficult to say now, as Arrowhead will feature a newer and enhanced version of ARMA 2 engine.

If they cant mke it a addon like COH did for their game we will se a split in the player base. I love ofp/arma/arma 2 but their is very little servers to play on as it is now.

I just did a count on servers with under 100 ping to me and found only 11 with at least 2 players in it. Most of them had only 5 people in game, and thats with the locked servers.

I hope ArmA 2 will be enriched by the new engine, too.

Secondary i hope that there will be some kind of automatic integration of arma 2 content. Maybe we could set a path to the arma 2 addons folder, so 9,35 GB of arma 2 content should not be twice on your hdd.

I have enough of that bollocks now. How can you tell that while saying at the same time you have no idea either? Please if you have no idea then just don't post instead telling people stuff they might consider a fact even if its just an assumption from you.

I also have enough from that ArmA2 is a beta version crap. Are you a professional beta tester? Do you know what a beta looks like or even know what a beta is? Or are you just picking something and repeating it get the postcount up?

Great news!! Been waiting for info since the GamesCom started. :D

We have one of the most sophisticated FLIR simulation systems already done for VBS2 and we will bring it in Arrowhead to fans of ARMA2 too.

As soon as I read that, I knew that Operation Arrowhead is gonna be a "must have".

Will the ammo/mag bug for weapons with dual sights be fixed?

Jennik: Honestly, I don't know anything about this particular issue mentioned. Anyway I believe anything considered as bug being brought corrected.

Well... I'm a little surprised that they don't know about that issue. But regardless, that kind of raises a new question. Will dual sights be supported at all? As in will I be able to use the rifle's ACOG at long range and then switch to the emergency battle sights for CQC?

Would the final version of ARMA2 is less than ARMA2:OA?
