ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

Recommended Posts

Well said. it appears that most if not ALL UK retail shops wont release it until friday as thats the OFFICIAL release date for this game in the UK.

Yes i know ordering it online sometimes get you the game a few days early but that doesnt mean that the day you get it is the "official" date it should be released.

People ask if this is the first game i ever bought? teh question should be asked to you lot insisting that this game is "officialy" out on the 29 in the uk. Its not otherwise GAME, HMV, Gamestation, zavvi etc etc will all have this game in their shelves next tuesday

Who said the official release date was 29th?:confused_o:

BIS did and so did many here.

Well then if BIS themselves say that 29th is the Official release date on their own product then that should be good enougth for you.. deadhorsefast2.gif

From main site: http://www.arma2.com/home_en.html

"Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, the forthcoming standalone expansion pack for Arma 2, voted by PC Gamer as the most PC Game of 2009, will be available to buy across the globe from the 29th of June"

Something is really odd here, few days left from release and no steam yet. ArmA 2 was on steam long before and we got a demo 1 week before the release too, now we got only some pics and some crap reviews.

Johnny, When releasing a game BIS cant account for everybody, I think im right in saying that ArmA2 has a larger European following that in the US. So Maybe BIS think that if they release OA on a day thats good for americans, It might make the game alot more widespread.

What difference does a day or 2 make...

Diddnt Arma 2 come out a few days "officialy" in germany and other countries? If amazon and play are aiming to send you the game and delivered to you in time for next tuesday then shouldnt they recieve the copy of the game before this week ends?

Yeah, they get it a few days early. Remember that OA went gold weeks ago, so the publishers have had plenty of time to get it out to retailers.

Ok johnny, To nail it on the head.

Online companies release it on the 29th. If you get it on the 29th from these places, Then you're lucky.

You will only be able to buy a boxed copy from a shop in the UK on the 2nd of july.

Seems most English reviewing sites leave their reviews for either the day before the release of the game, release day, or the day after. I don't think it will be different for OA, but who knows.

Yeah I've heard you can occasionally get games early from Media Markt. In some stores they apparently put new games on the shelf the evening before release day, so if you go there just before they close, you might get lucky. ;)

In this case, June 26th seems like they're pushing it though.

I hope this will happen not too much as I foresee similar things as last time, when people got the game early and BIS had not yet released the first patch.

The result are the first user reviews with unpatched games, ignoring the progress made with the latest Beta-Patches...

I noticed that too. A whole game review with nothing but canned screenshots from two months ago. Very weird indeed.

Why is that weird? Many reviews use stock footage because the reviewer cant be bothered to take hes own.

that's a bad sign, especially if the review in question is one of the first to appear.

first of all, a good reviewer will take pictures and/or record his own footage.

second, it raises the suspicion that the game has not been properly reviewed or not been reviewed at all. the comments about the AI could easily have been made by anyone who's watched the trailers and/or played ArmA 2.

a lot of lesser known websites regularly try to push reviews out ahead of others so as to be able to claim having the first review out, thus generating clicks. i've noticed this a number of times before, for example with Aliens vs. Predator.

First off, you're being very paranoid. Secondly, what is the point of discussing this? "Don't trust this review guys, it's not true, no pics!"?

First off, you're being very paranoid.

nothing to do with paranoia. it's a well know fact that gaming journalism has become somewhat of an industry and works closely together with both advertising companies and game producers.

when AvP was released, there was a review embargo right up to release day. before the embargo was over, however, a number of lesser known gaming websites released their reviews of the game. a few of these reviews were very poorly written and quite obviously based on the demo, and had no new screenshots/footage.

Secondly, what is the point of discussing this? "Don't trust this review guys, it's not true, no pics!"?

this is a discussion forum, is it not? someone posted a review, i remarked it was odd that there were no screenshots taken by the reviewer, someone else agreed. you disagree. it's a discussion. what you make of it is up to you. i for one don't trust that review. ;)
