WIP: Stuff you are working on 2!

Then why has it got live warhead markings? The gold bands signify a live warload. If it was a training round it would have blue bands.

Mykes right its down to the generation. Some of the older casings were rough cast. Later ones are machined.

Ah ok I see well it's solved then.:D

Funny sidenote: ever realized that BIS AGM-65 has blue markings and therefor are training rounds? :D

BTT: will make the Jdam less bumpy anyway, something inbetween the old and new.

Well it doesnt really matter which "bump" you use. They are still valid. There are still Mk8x casings from over 35 years ago in the US inventory. (Although i imagine they will be running low soon.) They are stockpiled without the explosive cores. They recycle them once the shelf life of the explosive filler expires. There are 4 main types:

  1. Classic Cast Iron (bumpy) case - these are usually used for airburst fused weapons because cast iron provides the best fragmentation. A bumpy surface ensures that the case fragments into millions of tiny pieces.
  2. Machined Hardened Steel case - Used for penetrating targets.
  3. Cast Iron with Plastic thermal protective coating. - US Navy versions
  4. Cast Steel with a welded Mild Steel Sleeve. - These are the more modern versions being produced since 1999. You get the best of both worlds with this type.

Thanks for the headsup, Rock. I have flattened the bumpiness a little as i had to agree that it was too much.

Hope you all like it.

That looks better! If you have the resolution you can increase the frequency but that looks pretty nice.

Nice work Myke.

Though, they look too clean for my tastes. Rough up the base texture a bit, with scratches and minor deviations in hue/ saturation, so they look more natural. ;)

But don't over do it; like the normal maps on your bombs already, too much and it looks tacky, too little and it feels like there is something missing.

Those are really cool, only thing I would recommend is making the metal a bit less shiny. Also, it seems from pictures that the green paint should be a bit darker. Great work!

@b00ce

rgr that, was working on the Mk82 when i was reading your post so i've added some roughness to this one first. So they look a bit used but i hope i didn't overdone it.

And yes, there is a typo in it saying it is a Mk83 instead of 82. Will be fixed asap. :D

I like the normal map additions in that it adds some randomness to the texture of the metal. Any scratch enough to indent the metal would be enough to pull the paint away, though, I think. Just food for thought.

The scratches on the spec map look nice.

Could use some dirt, and I doubt the tracks would be in snow, look at the muddy road. ^^

The pattern looks awesome tho, maybe some muddy footprints on top and stuff.

Also some scrached parts of white, where the green one base-color can be seen.. if you know what I mean :p

Also, maybe some parts like lamps would not be painted over with white.

The tone of white could also use some tuning, compare it to environment / soldiers white camo ;)
