Recnelis2 10 Posted June 25, 2009 The Steam FAQ mentioned us being able to Preload Arma 2. Anyone have any information on when this should occur? we only have about 1 day and 4 hours till release and still no preload option. =(

A preload hours before release kind of defeats the purpose of lightening server load. Hopefully it will be up by tonight.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted June 25, 2009 Are you able to have more than one shortcut to the same file with steam in the steam games list? http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1326311&postcount=266 You can create additional shortcuts for Steam games (and according to Dwarden start parameters will work properly if passed to Steam.exe), I'm not too sure about adding them to the games list though (maybe possible with add non-Steam game, maybe not). revolverocelotkjb 13 Posted June 25, 2009 Dwarden could you please elaborate on the following question in the Steam FAQ:Q: Will Steam offer beta patches? I did not play ARMA 1 and as a result I am not to familiar with the history surrounding ARMA 1's support. It is to my understanding that BIS produced beta patches for ARMA 1 (I guess when official patch support had ended and patch funding was no longer available patches produced by developers are unofficial and deemed beta patches???) and that ARMA 1 Steam purchasers could manually update with these beta patches if they chose to do so. Will this be the same for ARMA 2? If: Example Mod requires x.xx Beta patch but Steam users couldn't download Beta patch then Steam users would not be able to play Example Mod. 1) For Steam purposes are Beta patches treated as a Mod on Steam? 2) What by definition is a beta patch (Is it where official patch funding support has ended yet the BIS developers continue to support the game with unofficial official patches referred to as beta patches)? 3) How will Steam's ability or inability of using beta patches affect Steam players in the future with not only mods but also online play? Thanks! THE Rev Tube Ok...let me rephrase...Can any moderator/developer please elaborate on the questions above?

I thought June 26th, 2009 would have ment @ midnight on June 26th, 2009 ... maybe i am naive. Come on already ... I am so ready for the first new game for a LONG time. _Cappa 10 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) Hey don't complain I have to wait until the 30th GMT. Don't really understand why 30th instead of 26th in the uk? Edited June 26, 2009 by _Cappa
SteamFan1 10 Posted June 26, 2009 Please for the love of god allow us to use our cd keys to get a steam copy... Most likely won't happen. BI would be responsible for paying Valve for use of its bandwidth (i.e. every time someone re-downloads the game).
kocrachon 2 Posted June 26, 2009 ugh, I just wish it would have been a midnight release. Or at the very least I wish it was already pre-loaded so I could sit there and drool some more.
galzohar 31 Posted June 26, 2009 Hey don't complain I have to wait until the 30th GMT.Don't really understand why 30th instead of 26th in the uk? As far as I understand, it has stuff to do with loca distributors not liking people buying steam versions and thus force BIS to delay the Steam release for those countries. It's kind of hinted in the FAQ too.

revolverocelotkjb 13 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) So can we still expect a preload or no? Since we're not getting responses from the moderators concerning our questions about Steam I would safely assume the answer concerning preload is: No Since my questions as well as others surrounding Beta patches on Steam were completely ignored and moderator support on this thread went from ton to none upon the imminent release on Steam I can't rely on BI support via Steam. Maybe, should, and don't know doesn't exactly instill confidence getting this game on Steam and furthermore ducking mature questions concerning Arma 2 on Steam is unacceptable especially upon release. If BI was serious about supporting Steam users then the Steam FAQs should have been researched and ironed out way before now and even now too much info we are receiving is TBD, should, we'll try, or don't know. Dwarden 1125 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) the question about beta patches WAS not ignored and it was answered by me on both forums plus it's in FAQ asking for definitive decision about beta patches prior we even release first beta patch is bit absurd ... about the preload , there was reason it was marked as 'possible but not sure' .... thelawless999 10 Posted June 26, 2009 I see that it releases at 4:00 PM Pacific time.... Is there going to be a preload before this? I have to play this game tonight or I'm going to buy an M16 assault rifle and head to the forest to shoot animals until it downloads.
Funko 0 Posted June 26, 2009 So i love the game but i am worried about being able to install mods and addons with the steam version. I was going to buy from direct to drive instead but i want to get my money back from my preorder on steam. In the steam FAQ forum it says we can absolutly get our money back if we wanted to from a steam preorder. How do I do this??? Great demo thanks BIS.
