CAT Afghanistan, ported by PMC

CAT Afghanistan v1.5 port by PMC.

This is Afghanistan terrain and objects addon from Operation Flashpoint ported into Armed Assault. Its a advanced port, several modeling errors were fixed, textures merged and models optimized as well as config tweaked. No content have been added (except terrain has no ocean now, ie this is a terrain, not an island) or removed. Also the terrain uses now satellite texture / mask. There are no soldiers or vehicles in this addon.

Sweet! I lost alot of time here and in nam with my buddies over lan. Now all we need is Hermano to port over Honcho's DAMP 7plr MP mission like he did for OFP and I have no reason to leave my house biggrin_o.gif

The way that you've applied texture to the terrain makes the game very unstable and creates artifacts at high draw-distances.

Good job though.

Now I ask if there are any desert OPFOR soldiers or Taliban esque soldiers anywhere? I'm too lazy to search.

Also, awsome news, now I'd just like to update the map to ArmA spec, meaing adding more objects to make more Afghanlike.

I don't know if you planed to fix some bugs by the way, I report here several ones :

- most of the laders don't work

- some buildings are to high (compared to the ground level) so doors are not available

meanwhile, this map should provide some very good battlefields.

Awesome! Arrg...I have to study for finals and finish papers...but as soon as I can I will give this map a thorough test. PLEASE do not give up fixing it up as such maps are extremely important for the growth of Middle East type addons (which I know some people hate, but most ArmA players love including myself). This will help to spur hopefully the development of some good looking Taliban fighters as well as Afghan Army soldiers, not to mention historical Mujahadin and Russian addons from the 80's.

Of course, with Queen's Gambit, there's a soldier with a beard, already, eh?

I'd just like to see those buildings with proper shadows, casting proper shadows.

Yeah but we can't use the stuff from Queen's Gambit... thats not covered under the released MLOD's as far as I know. sad_o.gif

But I'm sure some skilled addon makers can create something good.

Downloaded this to try out and wow! Aside from the known bugs, this really looks good. I can see I missed out on some great fun with you guys in OFP (argh wasted my time with america's army instead crazy_o.gif <barfs>).

If these bugs get sorted and such, this can house some great Middle Eastern warfare fun. Hope more of these types will get ported over in time with some nice ArmA updates of course to spiffy it up a bit more. We need more of these types, maybe even some Israeli maps brought over in time. *nudges Miles and offers a cookie under the table wrapped in a $1 bill* biggrin_o.gif

I was surprised with the .pbo size ( "only" 18.4mb) icon_rolleyes.gif

but then i tried it and then I knew why..

I must inform that the ladders are not working. At least 1 ladder in the buildings do not work as the should. (possible solution)

Hope you can solve that "freaking" issue. (its a night mare for some)

edit: the important is that the map is very fluid. Enough for me.

I loved this map. However I get tons of memory crashes and other random crashes to desktop on this map in arma-- like every 15 minutes as opposed to every 4+ hours (if ever) on other islands (beta 1.12). FPS-wise though it runs as smooth as ramadi, so I don't know where the crashes would come from (I'm not a tech guy at all)-- like it was said before they happen even more often when I try flying around.

The ladders work when you add the buildings in the editor, but they don't in the map. If someone can fix the object height errors and things it would be great, but even buggy this is still an awesome map.

i think it was stated in the readme that you shouldn't fly with high viewdistance due to risc of CTD. tounge2.gif
