In retrospect, despite my respect and admiration for BIS work and achievements, I must admit that they failed in some way to comply with what made OFP so successful in the past.

In my judgement, they should have never released ArmA, or at least, only once some 'requirements' are accomplished.

I hope the competition between both firms would end up with a new 'feeling' in terms of Infantry-Simulators, since OFP's getting a bit old and ArmA still does not deserve the title.

regards,

TB

Another possibility is that the model given is just a simple model, incomplete with these and seperate models are used for each class therefore they have these special things.  We'll only know when we can crack the P3D's open.

Exactly. Different classes use different p3d files. We hope to have a little bit more flexible system for future products, however for ArmA we used this, because it is simple, it works, and it has excellent performance.

Future Projects?? I thought ArmA II will be the last Public release made by BIS... Or are you talking about future VBS?

Suma might be refering to ArmA2 itself... it is currently a future product after all.

I saw how the sight "escaped" from the rest of the gun, yes and at first I thought it's not right. But then I realised that such sights are meant to be used with two eyes open. So although you only see one "camera" view you still see the aimpoint outside the sight window as if your other eye is looking through correctly. Still, I might be talking sh*te.

thats a 8800 problem of handling alpha chennel

and there is notthing BI could do about

the major lack in ArmA is a strong story plot, the OFP and OFP:R story plot setting in the dawn of possible nuclear war in the heat of the cold war, this brings a strong feeling for many of us who have been living under the shadow of that, its too well writen that you cant really find anything that could suppass it, other minor ones like the broken anime(you got to admin its annoying to see your ingame muppet keep move-stop-move everytime you try to get going), also make it a bit less OFPish, but i could still see the same blood run within the game, and as far as it goes its OK for me

The ArmA bashing always is lovely, it is what it is somethign to keep us entertained till Game2 and bring BIS some money for development of Game2.

From what i read many will run to CM with their OFP2, well no wonder if they got 150 people workign on it and making it all eyecandy... however it hink it will lack any soul but i may be prooven wrong.

Arma cost most like 40Eur like most other games today and what does the usual game today offers? 10hours playtime?

I also agree that ArmA sucks compared to OFP but it keept me entertained for quite some time and the modding is kinda fun.

I think people who whine that BIS betrayed them for their money are a bit spoiled by the years of fun from OFP also in times where a cinema ticket costs like nearly 10Eur (in relation to maybe 2-3 hours ) i think its odd to whine about that bit of money ( in relation to how much fun you can have in ArmA especially once mods come out ).

And for those that still moan about all the bugs, well after last patches ArmA runs ok at least for me, i learned to live with engine bugs however the first reviews often pointed out that the game has probs so why not wait till it seems stable enopugh to buy?

Guess some will think im a A** now but i tell you what, a few people in here just need to face reality...

Dont you think BIS would have wanted a global release that is easy to patch?

But no they searched long for many little publishers ( exept Atari ) and guess why? Cause they dont want to lose the rights to their creation again like it happened with OFP2.

There are far too many things that most dont even think or know about about and instead whine here all the time.

BIS does many things for a reason even if they dont seem right for some, i for myself however got faith in ArmA2 cause so far what i seen made me think they learned from the ArmA lessons.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before (so many pages to look through) But..

Will Arma2 have realistic weapon handling and procedures such as stopages, clearing a weapon when found, Magazine removal and replacement, sight adjustements, customisable weapon addons eg red dot sights, fore grips etc?

This has never been perfected and as this is afterall a military simulator so why not simulate weapons properly.

This has to be the biggest joke ever, they get a poor excuse of the game out of the door label it the ultimate sim and we all paid good money for it for what? A large scale beta test so they can develop Arma 2, which judging by the current screenshots looks exactly like Arma 1 execpt on a different island / different vehicles.

As someone mentioned the Ai recongise corners! Wow that is one heck of an achievenment, I'm sorry to rain on peoples parade but all these 'features' should of been included in the original Arma - At the very least in the next patch. Its built on the same code, they must be an incredibly good reason why they can't be incorprated in the next patch.

New Toys and Island, yeah I'd pay for that, stuff that Op:f 2 is going to have (real physics) or what was promised in the really early previews (fully destructable enviroments) Yeah I'd pay for that but the same bugged, broken, unrealistic game in a different dress? Don't think so its a f**king joke.

Fix what you've already made, prove you actually listen to the community and then release Arma 2

Theyre not built on the same engine. people still dont seem to understand. Arma is based on a souped up ofp. its ofp 1.5.

Arma2 wich is game 2 is based on a totally new engine. just because the graphics look like arma currently doesnt mean theyre the same. theyre just placeholders atm

not so sure about this. Afaik engine is like branched tree, where Arma is one of the branches and Arma 2 is another. Engine is the same, but is is modified as development goes.

Cost of making new engine is much bigger than modifing old and you will have less bugs because of modification than creation.

Dont we go overboard with realism a little there?

Somehow i doubt that you would clear a weapon you scavenged in the middle of a firefight before firing it.

Anyway most of that surely wont happen and lets face it, we can already be happy if we finally get working hitzones that react correctly and a AI that is at least smart enough to take cover.

I think your right about that klamacz, but there has been conflicting reports. The old articles about "Game2" did mention a "new engine" that the devs had been working on for three years at that point (back in 2005)... thats the engine that had dynamic destruction and all that good stuff. The question is are they still useing that engine... and if so the bigger question is was it "new", or is it still just a re-tooled version of the OFP engine. My guess is it was always just a re-tooled OFP engine, and the old articles just weren't very clear.

Suma has stated that the engine is in 'continuous development', there are no different engines, just 1 with different versions. The Game2 shots were clearly based on the same engine as ArmA/OFP(:E), look at the small rocks, grass, the terrain, etc etc. (In fact, alot of Game2 has been ported over to ArmA).

The dynamic destruction was definitely in back in 2005, if its disappeared now then either BI ran into trouble using ODE, or it just isnt feasible on desktop PCs yet. (Though in that case it would be awesome if they just let the code in so that we can mod it ourselves back in later.)

that would be nice but those things arent usually added on the battlefield through firefights and ArmA is mostly about that i think.

well as far as i saw, that game is awsome, and cmon, we should give BIS some credit about what they're doing, and for arma, its okay i guess, i just got along with the bugs, and i really enjoyed my time, besides i dont hav to worry about how much it costs, here in lebanon it costs 2 $ only, and the original copy costs like 10 $

cheers

After hearing all the bad stuff about ArmA, BIS are bound to make a better game this time around. Another disappointment and they might lose lots of support. And they know it. I think BIS haven't said the last word yet.

ArmA should have been as you say the same blood.

All i really wanted from it was

Newer graphics.

Exactly the same Gameplay ( maybe smarter AI aslong as it doesnt kill it )

A new story ?? ( so awesome if it continued CWC some how. )

Thats all i can see.

But yes ArmA Lacks in its campaign. None of the people you play have a background story. Look at Guba, one of Stalins Generals

pistols.gif

And a James/David and especially Troska ! ( goodnight.gifnotworthy.gif ) etc... all had fantastic background storys, which you can read on the BI wiki.

Pray that we see this ArmA 2 wink_o.gif

new preview from GC (only in Czech) - http://games.tiscali.cz/previews/arma2gc/index.asp

some new bits in it, so I took them out:

- the story is about post-soviet republic Chernarus. Part of the country is occupied by pro-russian minority which begins terrorize inhabitants. A goverment asked USA for a help, so you're going there as USMC member to establish the rule of law. But the Russia stepped in to destruct the radical anti-russian nationalist army, whereupon US forces retreated but you and your unit are still in Chernarus.

- you can choose and join the side you want to fight with

- important is your attitude towards civilian population

- map of Chernarus is 300 sq. km big (based on Czech Central Mountains 1:1)

- most of the time you will have five-man group in hand, again with switch function

- some new peaces in vehicle list (obviously "Game 2" stuff): T-90, AVV, BMP-3, BTR-90, Tunguska-M1, C-130J, F-35

- some mix of FPS and RTS-like stuff in MP: in one of the mode, the commander of every team can buy vehicles or build factories crazy_o.gif

- BIS wants to transfer most of the SP missions into MP

- the MP game should be saved on a server (including every change in it) so you can continue with it later (now, I'm not sure if it's related just to one the modes or all of them)

- no dynamic destructions

- full DirectX 10 and Vista support

- they're still looking for a publisher

- release: June 2008 (or 6 months sooner or later, as Maruk said biggrin_o.gif )

That's all folks

I really honestly don't know how they could talk so confidently about it, and talk about its scaleability and all that... if in the end its not possible on a current gen PC. After years of working on it at that point, they should have known if it was possible at the time of E3 2005... and if they weren't possitive, it should have never been mentioned in the mannor it was. IF its missing from the game in the end, I will still wonder if it was removed becuase of the possible 360 version.....

Becuase even if its not possible on EVERY building like they were talking about.... why not still use it on some buildings? That way we could make smaller maps with total use of it, and as technology gets better on PC's the amount of buildings useing the feature would increase on player made maps.

nice info adamicz. keep us informed.

thumbs-up.gif

hmm I hope they can implement better systems to vehicles and aircrafts instead of just making the list bigger.

I suppose this conflict is supposed to happen sometime after 2011 as no F-35s will be in service before that time.

- no dynamic destructions

I like to know reason to why they´ll drop this features out of ArmA 2? It is rly so demanding to hardware to make it working in large scale islands or what? I hope they will release at least that demo where u can satchell all houses and those are destoyable part by part getting down and the code is done so why they cant even support that in ArmA2?
